This is the first book of Alicia Best that I have ever read and it's part of a series. It was a quick book since it was a novella, but it still had a good pace although I would love more, but that's always something that I which for when I read a short book. I want more because I'm curious about the characters. Nevertheless, I like this book. The characters were interesting. I want more because I'm curious about the characters. Nevertheless, I like this book. The characters were interesting. I liked that it was in the first person POV, since it was a novella that helped me stay connected and understand them because they were the ones telling the story. We could understand why they felt that way and why they wanted hat they wanted and did what they did. Although that beginning wasn't what I was expected, and that happened with the rest of the story. It was a good thing, the unexpected made the book refreshing and it was a good touch that complemented the bit of mystery that was presented. Plus it made the story intriguing and not just another romantic novella. It was sweet and clean and I appreciate that since I like to just rest from erotic romances for a bit. And although I love all types of romances, the ones like this book are a breath of fresh air after reading a lot of full hotness steam books. And we always have to have balance in our life. So I was very thankful when I read this book. In terms of plot it had the classic elements of a good story. The billionaire that gets what he wants and the hard working, strong woman... Although... I'm always in need of more pages no matter if it's a short book or a a 500 page book, and of course I would love to read more about them and see more development, but for the amount of pages the plot didn't felt short to me. It all had from beginning to end a good amount of moments that were surprising, wow, sweet, dramatic, funny and over all entertaining. [I want to thank Alicia to the ARC in exchange for my honest review.]

I was given an advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily wrote this review. So right off the bat I have a problem with the book because I dislike the use of first person present tense. I just find it annoying. But if that doesn't bother you then no problem. The story really could have been the script for a Hallmark movie. It is sweet and clean. It is a romance but has a little mystery in it that the two main characters are forced to solve together. Because the story is so short there isn't a lot I was given an advanced copy of this book. Because the story is so short there isn't a lot of time for things to develop in terms of the romance or the mystery but the characters are developed. We know what kind of person the main characters are from the get go. Or at least we think we do. Everything is not always as it seems. It isn't exactly insta love but there is insta attraction. I found Adrian's attraction to Maddie believable since she seems to be the first person that has stood up to him and instead of getting upset over it, he finds it alluring. I had a harder time accepting Maddie's attraction to Adrian. Again, the short story plays into it, but I felt like she was at anger and distrust, hurdled right over maybe he isn't such a bad guy and right into sitting on his lap for a first kiss. Wow. That was quick. Sex: a few kisses Language: a little Violence: threatening situation and someone knocked out by lap top.

This story was about opposites attracting. Adrian Knight owned a very successful tech company and he wanted Maddie Lee's farm. But, Maddie wasn't buying into his fan club. All she saw was arrogance and superficiality. Adrian was very attracted to Maddie's determination and grit. When she discovered someone was destroying her farm, she was sure Adrian was responsible. When he adamantly denied any involvement, they began to work together to try and find the saboteur. Spending so much time together might help them to see each other more clearly which may be either good or bad. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read and was well written. It was a clean story without any sex or foul language. There was drama, suspense, romance and a happy ending. I was given an arc copy to read and I offer my review willingly.

The two of them butt heads and appear to hate each other. Then, when they discover a threat to both of them, everything changes. As Maddie and Adrienne work together to uncover and stop the culprit, they discover their feelings have changed. Although this book is written in first person, the author switches the point of view between Maddie and Adrienne. This is a fantastic way to allow the reader to be aware of each character’s thoughts. This is a short book that is fun to read!

It was a great quick read and even though it is in a series, the book is a standalone. I think you would enjoy all the others as well.

Common Ground has a surprisingly rich plot for being a short story. The narration flows easily, populated by lively and well defined characters.  The storyline, based on the controversy between a rich entrepreneur and a sassy and a girl who is struggling financially, is a classic. Common Ground is a sweet romantic mystery. Although part of the Shady Piers series it is not actually set in the town itself. This is a good novella if you take it with a pinch of salt as the story moves insanely fast from Maddie refusing point blank to sell her farm to HEA. Forgiveness is good but this is way too unrealistic for me. If you want a quick easy read then this is a great book and a good addition to this wonderful small town series. This story just grabs you from page one and does not let go until you finish the book. I loved Maddie and Adrian. They are great characters. The big question is how could such a thriving farm have developed such significant decay in so short a time. Did Adrian resort to underhanded tactics to get the last piece of land he needs or is someone else responsible? I did not rest until I had the answer!
