Medani, a young ward of a royal family, runs away from her escort only to meet a half-demon boy named Siris. Together with a shape shifter and a poor pilferer, the outcast princess faces many obstacles in order to finally regain freedom. Along the way, she decides to trust even non-human comrades. However, what she doesn't know is that all the secrets those strange creatures keep will bring a chain of terrific events that endanger not only the life of the girl but throw the whole world into chaos. Logical to its core, The Sign explores the logic that holds everything in place. Everything that seems off and every event that seems too convenient takes on a different meaning as readers look a little deeper. Through the characters' journeys, The Truth is eventually uncovered. But, it's hard to say whether that Truth is better than the Lies that keep this world together...

This review is no longer relevant as I read a draft-copy. But I leave the good things so others know what to expect. So, the good things: The characters. They are colourful, a bit tropey, but easy to imagine and to relate to. The world and the magic system. I haven't read that much of fantasy, but this looks fresh and convincing. I am sure the author has a separate file with all the lore of this world, and I wished to read more from that. The story itself is interesting and had me guessing what will happen next. If I had to compare with City of Bones which I also awarded two stars, "The Sign" has had me more invested in both plot and characters. I'd have dropped "City of Bones" if I wasn't reading it for a book club, and I chose by myself to continue with "The Sign" til the end.

Part Magic, part fantasy, Author Yuns Fantastical Story sizzles with imagination. Medani a young ward of a Royal family runs away with Siris, half boy half demon and journeys back and forth across the line of good and evil. With her burning desire to seek freedom in her life, she befriends other incredible characters including other non humans. I was struck with aww at how a writer could imagine such Characters and portray them with such realness that are believable to the reader. I am not one to easily escape in fantasy novels however the storyline captured my attention early and till the end. At one climactic point in the story, Medani discovers that all the secrets that the others she befriended keep would throw the entire world into Chaos with their powerful events. The whole book if you look deeper has a hidden meaning about life, it's Truths and Lies. There seems to be another story to be told...maybe a second book, or maybe we are left to write the next story in our own imaginative way. I loved it. Bravo Monokuru Yun.

Easy to read light adventure story It was an easy to read light adventure story. I'd say it's for younger readers, without too much to think about and too many difficult dialogues, but an interesting fantasy world. Medani surprised me as an unspoiled princess. Siris was mysterious but too good-hearted. And Nytrio.. let's just say it's hard to imagine a cat with butterfly wings shooting fireballs, but Monokuro did that :D Sadly there were quite a lot of grammar mistakes in the book but this is just Easy to read light adventure story It was an easy to read light adventure story. The ending clearly indicates sequel is coming, so I will read that too :)

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I recieved a paperback copy of this book from the author and honestly I'm completely in love! Not only did the author personalize and sign it for me but also sent it to the states from Lithuania. This story is very well written and pulls you into the lands with Siris and Medani! I love the descriptions that help you visualize and connect with characters. I felt the hurt and embarrassment when Medani realized she had nothing to offer Siris to take her with him. I loved that Siris connected with her because like him she was a half breed just not in the same sense. All in all I highly recommend this book to readers seeking a world to dive into because it will pull you in emotionally!

This is a light read with a good story line. There’s adventure, loss, magic, demons, unique creature and royalty. There are some missing information in the book, and at time it’s lacking details; however it’s easy to fill in the holes with your imagination. It’s worth the read if you tend to like adventure reads.

A light adventure/fantasy novel, yet capable of absorbing a reader in an enchanting fictive world. An author uses a rich vocabulary and seems to have no problems depicting the scenes vividly. Nytrio's capability to fly raises a question why an author excludes him from abiding by physical laws, but this is not an issue to be considered. Let us hope the next volumes will be published as well. A light adventure/fantasy novel, yet capable of absorbing a reader in an enchanting fictive world. I'm guessing this is a translation and a very poor one. The grammar and syntax were nearly impossible to follow. It would start going ok and then there would be whole paragraphs that didn't make sense. It looks like it's a good idea for a story, but it deserves a better translation! A short yet fantastic journey in a land filled with magic and odd creatures. A good choice if you're looking to embark on a quest and tag along a couple of irregular characters chasing their aspirations. Leaves you wanting for more! Enchanting tale This story kept me entertained from start to finish. It has well developed characters and a good plot that made me want to move with it.

Interesting story and not bad characters but countless mistakes make it really hard to enjoy the book.

Great book! It was fun to learn about the magical world through the eyes of Medani. The slow but steady character development was nicely carried out too. Hoping for a part 2!

The world building was great. I couldn't really see any major character development, but i guess it was because it isn't the only book. Overal, as a light read it was nice. I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. This is the first thing I've read by the author. This was an interesting story that was difficult to get started, the first few chapters were a challenge for me to get through but after that the story picked up and the flow improved. This book felt like a lead up to a much larger series and kind of leaves the reader hanging. In the event another book comes out I will read it because by the end of the book I was vested in the story. I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. This is the first thing I've read by the author.
