It's a case that cuts just a little too close to home for Margaret and her loved ones in the latest crime to hit their not-so-quiet town! “People are like jawbreakers; they are many layers to them...” Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and everyone is busy making preparations to celebrate while juggling work and chores. Margaret and her son Zach talk about extending their family and getting a puppy. While opening her store, she hears Maria Luis screaming and pointing down the alley. There, Margaret beholds the grumpy dog-groomer, Mr. Stewart, lying dead in the dirt. Detective David Graham is at the forefront of the investigation, and he warns her to stay away from the case. It doesn’t wash well with Margaret, who fiercely protests his concerns until he has little choice but to let her help him hunt down leads. Mr. Stewart was a man who’d been all bark – but Margaret witnessed his secret kindness towards others despite his attitude. He had his heart in the right place, and now it was cold in a morgue; the thought fuels a fire inside her to catch his killer and bring the person to justice. Margaret and David’s complicated relationship as they interview residents and business owners who’d butted heads with Mr. Stewart to make sure the grump can rest in peace. If they let their guard down, the consequences could be devastating. “…but crack through the layers – you’ll inevitably reach the center.”

Another great mystery, with friendship and family. Living in a small town where people know your business better than you do. A amateur dective and candy maker. In between dective cases, now its personal. This case is on her own nickle, but she has to think fast and act fast to solve it. Can she do it? Time is against her. A great mystery with great characters, and action. You will really enjoy it. Debra H.

Sweet revenge She has decided that maybe getting a dog would be a good idea and her son wholeheartedly agreed. What she wasn't expecting was that it was a two for one deal. Against her handsome detective's wishes she decides to investigate. Fitting in the detective's newly found daughter into the investigation is hard especially as her own son is making her worry about his secretive behaviour. Concussion, a missing child and a large number of suspects are wrapped up in a plot that will surprise you with the ending.

Mr. Stewart will be missed. Although he was a bit of a grump, he had a heart of gold and Margaret really enjoyed being friends with him. I enjoyed the layers of his personality, or as Margaret said he was a jawbreaker; he had many layers that you just had to wait around to see which one was next. This story was a good continuation of the story between Margaret and David. Their relationship and the relationships they enjoyed with their children are growing and becoming stronger. This was another great book. I really love the stories about Margaret, Zach and their friends. This time Margaret is on another case when her good friend and dog groomer, Mr. Stewart is murdered. She has plenty of suspects. Thanksgiving is coming up, new promotions are in the works and she thinking about adoption, a pet of course. Her son is acting strange and spending more time time with David and his daughter. Read this book to find out about Zach's behavior, who killed Mr. Stewart and if she This was another great book. Wow, this book wasn't what I expected. Margaret having to investigate the murder of one of her new friends. Mr Stewart may have been an old grouch sometimes but she considered him family. Now Margaret want rest until she finds out who killed him. There is some happy news in this read also. This was a awesome quick read. I voluntarily agreed to review this book. My review is my own honest opinion. Wow, this book wasn't what I expected. Margaret having to investigate the murder of one of her new friends. Margaret is back and things seem to be going the same as we left off in book 4 until sweet Mr. Stewart is found dead. Que the fun, mystery, and danger for Margaret. I liked that the usual characters popped in and there was a bit of mystery in Zach's life that was solved easily but caused Margaret to imagine some wild ideas that were entertaining. I know I can expect a clean fun read from this series. Margaret is back and things seem to be going the same as we left off in book 4 until sweet Mr. Stewart is found dead.
