If you are a fan of Vampire Academy but with an even more elaborate plot read this series by the way! But I digress When I read Ashes of Eden I was very surprised. Because Michael and God are NOT the good guys or at least not in my books! I was rooting for Lucifer. Yes, Lucifer you know Morning Star, the Devil, blablabla... Why? Because his only sin was feeling too much emotions, loving too much and wanting freedom. Why was he not allowed to show his love like he wanted if it did not hurt the other? Why was he wrong in being hurt when human killed the others, raped women etc. and wanting to prevent it? Why ? And why Michael's manipulation to push Lucifer to sin would make him a good guy when he wanted excatly the same as Lucifer and I am sure had sinful thoughts? You tell me! So what's this story about? It's about the birth of Angels when they were given flesh and bones. I must say that part was exceptional as JL Myers really made me "be" the angels when they went from light and energy to emerging hands and head and ... How they had to find names for a "hand" for .... Once Angels are made flesh they still watch over humanity. Only ....this flesh came with many emotions and feelings. Especially Gabriel so sweet and loving. She tought Lucifer to feel and love. And that's exactly because he felt so much that Lucifer will fall. But that's also because of his "humanity" that I felt closer to Lucifer than distant and manipulative Michael * no I don't like him you get it by now*. That was me with Michael .... I won't say much about the plot as I don't want to spoil your fun. Just know that if you want an interesting and fresh story on the "making of" Lucifer with all the manipulations and twists leading to his fall don't look further! Now I wonder what will happen to him. And to gabriel. And if God will see what his precious Michael has done. And ....   Thanks for reading! She cried out, the burn attacking her toes and climbing her legs, melting and burrowing through her skin. This was the end—her end—here in this grassy field. Here under a darkening sky before the eager eyes of all the human men who had captured her. Here—alone. With agony consuming her on the outside, Gabriel retreated into her mind, away from the smell of her cooking flesh and the sound of her bloodcurdling screams. No longer able to feel the wet tears that forged tracks down her face, she conjured the memory of her last encounter with Lucifer. He had come to watch her. To observe her down on Earth. But of course she had known the moment he landed nearby. As always, she had felt him. At first her heart had taken off in her chest, soaring like a bird’s rapid wings on the breeze. But her heart did not make the rules. “I want you to leave, Lucifer. Leave me be.” And he had, despite the tears she could not hold at bay. Despite how clearly his heart was breaking as he staggered away and took flight up into the twilight sky. Clinging to the image of his shell-shocked face, she remembered the sheen to his wide silver-blue eyes, the bunching of his tan brow, the way his lips trembled over clenched teeth as if he were fighting the temptation to refuse her demand. Her hand cupping his jaw had been their last touch, a touch that could never compare to the slide of his rough hands over her bared body or the hungry pressure of his mouth against hers. But that would never happen again. “As you wish.” Lucifer had surrendered to her refusal. He had granted her wish. And now… She would die alone. Gabriel’s screams shattered her memories as the blaze engulfing her robe-clothed body licked even higher. Legs bared and bloody, flames now lashed her stomach and arms. Renewed panic made it feel like her insides were smoldering too. This couldn’t be her end. It couldn’t be their end. Yanking her arms up to evade the burn, the lowest rope snapped around her hips, ripping skin away in its wake. Gabriel hissed at the sting, swallowing her screams. Raw hands snatching and tugging at the higher ropes, they refused to budge, her strength failing her. Darkness fell, teasing her senses with the promise of cold that could never combat the inferno of flames that climbed ever higher and renewed her tortured cries. Wings trapped to the tree behind her catching alight rapidly, even escape from her bindings would not spare her. Those men stood by, spears in hand and murder painted in their eager gazes. Strands of her windblown hair sizzled up to her scalp with flaming embers, and Gabriel’s eyes pinned shut. The burn attacking her arms had a hold of her ribs, eating away inside her, breaking her. Her heart felt hot, too hot. Soon her screams would turn to fire—with her final shriek. Unable to speak, parting words formed in her mind. A telepathic message, a goodbye…that would never reach its source. Never blame yourself, Lucifer. This was not your doing. It was mine. I was wrong. I need you. I have always needed you. A sudden commotion sounded, a booming ruckus as the ground shook. But the cause mattered not. Nothing mattered anymore. Her end was imminent. And then everything changed. Gabriel’s bindings suddenly released and she fell like the dead. A blanketing weight covered her, blocking the cooling breeze and dousing the consuming fires that coated her sticky body and wings. Skin stuck and peeled away, the sound joining her rattling sobs. And then she sucked in a choked breath—and smelled him. Unable to believe her senses, Gabriel cracked her melted eyelids open. Staring down at her was the one face she had never expected to see again. Tan, rugged, and filled with a fear of losing her that resonated in his eyes with silver tears. “Lucifer. You came—” she rasped, realizing this was real. Realizing Lucifer had returned to this field on Earth and was surrounded by murderous men. Tongue feeling like it was on fire, she gasped out, “No. Oh, no. Please. Leave before they get—” There were screams, men barking orders out of sight that refused to break through the sound of rushing blood in Gabriel’s ears. The look of relief across Lucifer’s face morphed with animalistic fury. “No being will ever hurt you again. I vow it.” And then he was gone. Chilled air swept in at his absence, fighting the burn that clawed at her bloody body and causing a fresh wave of agony to dance across her melted skin. Grunts and shouts rose up, and then wet thumps—bodies hitting mud. Dread hooked into her insides as if worms had suddenly risen up to devour her charred remains. Murder of men was a heinous sin. A sin so much worse than her forbidden interactions with Lucifer. She needed to stop him. She needed to— With a gasp of pain, Gabriel rolled to her side, seeing movement through the long brown grass as men fell injured but still alive. Her eyes scoured through the mass of men screaming commands to kill. Finally locating Lucifer, she saw a dagger in his hands as he caught the throat of the man who had led this village of men and ordered her death. The man’s face turned red then purple as he was lifted from the ground. Spit sprayed from his lips, but no sound escaped. The grip on his jugular was too tight. A death grip. “You attacked the wrong angel, you disgusting excuse for a human.” Lucifer’s smile was a promise as he pointed the dagger at the man’s wide eyes. Gabriel struggled to her hands and knees, the grass ripping more of her raw skin away. About to fall in a heap, she grunted through the agony. “And now you die.” Gabriel pushed upright, choked words flying from her bloody mouth. “Lucifer, no!” Dagger freezing mid-air, Lucifer’s head cranked sideways. His eyes widened and flung the man aside to run at her. “Gabriel, look—” Something punched into Gabriel’s back, stealing a gasp from her as it tunneled through her heart and exploded out through her chest. Her head fell forward, and a bloody spearhead gleamed up at her.

Just finished the book. This was a really good origin story. I like how Lucifer was made more relatable and Michael is more of a not so obvious bad guy...kind of self-righteous...i kinda laughed though when it showed God as a 13 yr old haha I enjoyed Lucifer's journey through each emotion until he finally accepted that he would never have the freedom the humans have, so he would just live how he wanted anyway. I loved how she saw Lucifer for who he was. She cared about him good and bad. And, Gabriel made him more mellow and more likable. I also liked that she was an independent character. Gabriel stood on her own feet and was a great angel herself. The romance in this novel is phenomenal. I loved, loved the entire romance between Lucifer and Gabriel. There was tons and chemistry and so many tender moments. The trials and hardships both characters have to endure to get the HEA is so much. Yet, they still stick it out and love each other. This is what true romance is: loving someone despite their flaws and mistakes. The world building and writing flowed beautifully. First off, this is such a unique take on angels. I liked how angels are more humanized. Instead of being portrayed as perfect beings, they have flaws and that made me like them more. I also liked how we see the dark side of being angel. This novel shows the good and bad. In addition, the novel had such beautiful writing. The writing was so poetic and conveyed the emotions of the characters so well that I, myself, felt as a part of the story. All in all, amazing first installment to a beautiful romantic fantasy series. I just can't wait for the second novel. Definitely one click this novel.

Michael might be the commander of all angels, but his ass is as jealous of Lucifer as Lucifer is of the humans. Michael wants Gabriel to be by his side! I just seems like the downfall of mankind was not Lucifer’s doing per se but it was the fact that he had to sneak around just to be near the one person who makes him whole.

This story is well written and loosely follows the biblical creation story. The angels are created male and female and Lucifer is in love with Gabriel and is continually punished for his love, Gabriel is also punished but less harshly. Michael is spiteful and jealous, God wants his angels pure, but can’t see the anger in Michael. There is a hint of another angel pairing. I really felt sad throughout the whole book, the ending is sad, and there doesn’t seem to be any hope for them to be together This story is well written and loosely follows the biblical creation story. I dont even know where to begin. I have never read a book quite like this before. Normally I'm done with a book in a few days and this book I paced myself, I took my time to take in all the details. Lucifer's story is an amazing one. This is a wonderfully imaginative story. An entirely new take on the story of Lucifer which will make you love him. Yes, if you’re a religious Christian then a suspension of belief will be needed, but so what - it’s no worse than reading about characters who happen to be Greek ,Norse, etc gods. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

I’ve been a fan of J.L. Myers’ books for a while now, so when the opportunity arose to read an ARC of her newest book Ashes of Eden: Fallen Angel book 1, I knew I couldn’t pass it up. I was given an ARC, but was not required to review. All opinions above are my own.

Ashes of Eden is the tale of ArchAngles Lucifer and Gabriel and their love for each other which leads to Lucifer's downfall. A love that was forbidden. When God created the ArchAngles, he made them male and female, maybe not a smart decision on his part. This is a beautifully written story. The world building is fantastic and the character are so well developed and real you will either love or hate them. True to form, J.L. Myers has created a truly exceptional story. I do love books about angels, and this was no exception. I admit it was a bit a slow start but once I was a few chapters in I couldn’t stop reading. Even though it was a slow burn to begin with I loved chapter 2 where it describes when God gave angels a human form, the whole premise of this fascinated me from the get go! I enjoyed this story! It was different than I expected but I liked it. This story is about Gabriel and Lucifer and the start of the world. This story deals with God, sin, rules, what's right and wrong and more. It was interesting. If you don't do religion or are very strict with the way that things are interpreted than this might not be the story for you. This story deals a lot with temptation and how people see it and handle it. We pretty much follow the arch angels the entire time and only see I enjoyed this story! It was interesting. If you don't do religion or are very strict with the way that things are interpreted than this might not be the story for you. This story deals a lot with temptation and how people see it and handle it. We pretty much follow the arch angels the entire time and only see the world when it pertains to them. The story flowed well and things developed at a decent pace. I haven't read anything else that was like this. This story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and will be continued in the next story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This absolutely fabulous, and beautifully written storyline is an Epic Love Story. This is the tale of Lucifer and Gabriel, their meeting, love, and subsequent fall from grace. Beautifully detailed, with heartache, love, jealousy, and the archangel's perception of earth and the human form this tale is mesmerizing! I am on pins and needles wanting the next addictive addition to this series. I loved, enjoyed and was enthralled by this book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review. This is a romance filled story of the fall from grace of Lucifer. Admittedly, this is definitely not the view I learned in Sunday school. Yet, it was a story of deep love. Lucifer and Gabriel struggle with their feelings and God’s rules for angels. Although angels were forbidden from having human relationships, more than a few seemed to have romantic feelings. Lucifer was unable to hide his overwhelming emotions and paid the price. What an alternate view of the tale of Lucifer, the fallen angel! We follow him as he battles with his own demons in trying to fight his forbidden love of the beautiful angel, Gabriel, & the consuming jealousy of fellow angel, Michael. Wonderful descriptive writing help us to see a different Lucifer, & help banish our preconceived predudices against this feeling, loving & complicated character! Look forward to book 2.

What a different take on the tale of Lucifer, the Fallen Angel. We're shown an unknown side to this angel as he goes through his own battles concerning his forbidden love for the beautiful angel, Gabriel, & the jealousy of fellow angel, Michael. Wonderful descriptive writing throughout allow us to see him in a more human, fragile light. Look forward to book 2 - brilliant read. Received as an ARC from this author & this is an honest review. First I want to say I have always loved J.L. Myers books, but this one just did not do for what the other ones have. The first chapter was awesome, but than after that I felt it was to much repetition on Lucifer and Gabriel and their feelings. Even thought it still added other information into it. Overall it was interesting. I received a free copy for my honest review.

I enjoyed reading this book. It provides a twisted view of what most of us would expect to encounter in the heavenly realm. The good guys are not quite so, and the bad guy - not so much. If you enjoy fantasy books that include angels and skewed perceptions just a bit, you should check out this book.

Well, not the sort of book I normally read but I am glad I gave it a shot. The book is well written and I have to admit to needing to read through to the end. I can’t wait for the author to reveal what happens next. Recommended.

This is a pretty well written book. It just was not for me. Although I had high hopes for it, it was slow going and in my opinion boring overall. It has a beautiful cover! I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.

Interesting Read Not really enjoying this story. It concerns all the Angels and God and how Lucifer Morningstar fell in love with the female Angel Gabriel. Also how Lucifer brought about his own destruction in Heaven. This is told as a dangerous love story.

Wonderfully written but just not for me. The story was well told, but for some reason I just couldn't get drawn into it. I loved the cover, but this story just didn't hold my attention. Absolutely fabulous. For a change Lucifer is the good guy not Michael. Love this new series, can’t wait for the next book.
