Born into a cursed kingdom, then having her wings stolen, kidnapped, and forced to marry an evil king, Swan Princess Odette's life has not been filled with joy. Her only happiness is her beautiful twin babies. Then one night a handsome stranger shows up in her room with a mysterious note. The note, the man, his powers give Odette a second chance at life. A chance for true happiness. This novella is a twist of the Seven Swan Princesses. I originally read Clipped in the 12 Days of Christmas Anthology. It's a very short, clever take on the fairy tale bringing in the dashing son, Stefan, of another fairy tale's powerful witch. The instant, sweet connection between Odette and Stefan, Odette's love for her children with Stefan's immediate protective feelings for the twins, and Odette's hurt over her family's lack of interest in her all lead to a compelling story.

Based on the fairy tale Swan Lake, the youngest swan princess Odette has been captured by a human king. The abusive king hid her wings from her, keeping her prisoner in his castle, and forced her into marriage. Stefan, the ambassador from a neighboring kingdom, notices how sad and downtrodden the queen is and is determined to rescue her. I am a fan of clean fairy tale retellings, and this one keeps in the spirit of the original tale. Romantic, beautiful setting, with plenty of magic, paranormal creatures, and name dropping of famous fairy tale characters broadening the world around it, setting it up for the larger series. Sadly though, the rest of the series doesn’t seem available at this point, so I can’t really see how this story figures into the larger series (which is sad since there are several plot threads that just got dropped without any real resolution -namely the King). Stefan seemed cliché as yet another wolf shifter (seriously, they’re a dime a dozen in indie books these days). Odette didn’t seem to have much to her personality either, aside from being mostly just a pawn to the will of those around her (the king, her father, Stefan), a damsel-in-distress who didn’t seem to be interested in freeing herself.

I loved this short story, which is loosely based on the story of Odette the Swan Princess (you know, from Swan Lake and the Seven Swan Princesses!) but is an original retelling. I won't say more about the storyline as it'll give away spoilers, but I really liked the way the author has taken the basic story and given it a whole new twist, yet remained true to the origin elements. It's well-written, keeps you hooked from beginning to end, and whilst some elements are a little confusing if you're reading this in isolation (such as who Odette's rescuer really is, and his backstory), you don't need them to enjoy the story, and we have more than enough information given to understand all that's happening. And if you enjoy it, you can then go and explore more stories in the series to find out more! Anyway, I loved this story and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes fairytale retellings, especially those which are short in length but not in content, fantasy lovers, or those who would just like to read something with a twist of magic and a happy ever after. NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

I originally read Clipped in the 12 Days of Christmas Anthology. Odette is one of the 7 swan sisters, and when she sheds her feather to walk the land her cloak of feathers is stolen and she ends up being kidnapped and held captive by the king. I really liked Stefan. He was fun and smart. I liked that he was so great to Odette. Odette endures, but at times seemed a little frail and sad. I liked that she was very focused on what was good for her kids.

I read as much as I could to make this evaluation. It is a well written storyline and the characters are believable. However, I personally could not finish it as this was one of my beloved fairytales growing up and it has too much of an adult spin on it for me to get to grips with it. This does NOT make this a bad book, however, I would like to keep my memories of my fairytale pure and untainted.

This was an incredible read from start to finish... This is a book you won't want to put down, you'll be hooked from the start, I enjoyed reading it. I'd recommend your book to anyone. The only time I put it down was to take care of a drink. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This was an incredible read from start to finish... This may be a quick read but that does not mean it is not a good read. I absolutely loved reading this book but then I generally enjoy reading Laura Greenwood her books are so good. This is a retelling of seven swan princess fairytale but for adults. So good. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Love when I catch books on sale, that means I get to binge read an author that I have started following! This is a wonderful retelling of the Seven Swan Princesses. Since this is a short story it is hard to say anything without spoilers. But I can say that the author has give the basic story of Odette the Swan Princess and given it a whole new twist.

This was a cute and short retelling of the Seven Swan Princesses. The story was too the point, but also sweet once you meet Stefan (who gives off a Westley from The Princess Bride vibe). Will definitely be reading the parent series to explore more of this universe :)

A sweet retelling of the swan princess. It has LG's signature fairy tale feel which made it perfect. I hope she does more books like this one. Enjoy. ***I decided to review an ARC of this book.*** A sweet retelling of the swan princess. It has LG's signature fairy tale feel which made it perfect. I hope she does more books like this one. The author gives us a sweetly dark rendition of the Swan Princesses fairytale. It is not particularly original, but the author does bring the characters to life.

I wanted to like this short story, but the constant errors (comma splices, unnecessarily capitalizing mother, father, king, princess, etc., and typos) bugged me.

Such A Sweet Tale!! If you love fairytales with a twist, than you're going to love Ms. Greenwood's stories. She entertains while painting a vivid landscape of words. This is a very unique version of a beloved fairytale. It's rather short, but so very sweet that upon it's conclusion, you totally get all the feels 💗 It absolutely brightens your curiosity as to learn more of the characters that were repeatedly mentioned, but we never meet in this novella.
