This story has such a delightful collection of absolute fucking lunatics. It's a shame so many of them don't survive. This story has such a delightful collection of absolute fucking lunatics. It's a shame so many of them don't survive.

five stars for Edogai alone. I loved this volume, it has quality Ogata content, Tanigaki content (that sad backstory) and intense chase in the coal mines. The art is so beautiful.

This is the most macabre volume of Golden Kamuy as the Western veers sharply into horror territory with the introduction of a taxidermist who (view spoiler)[would make even Ed Gain, Jame Gumb and Norman Bates wonder if maybe that dude took it a little too far. There's also a chapter flashback to the Russo-Japanese War for one of the side characters. The ending goes way over the top with an unlikely mining car chase scene straight out of Scooby-Doo.

This one felt like a filler to me. The taxidermist storyline was odd, nothing really happened with Asripa and Sugimoto. The only interesting thing was Tanigaki's backstory. Wow. Este tomo lo tiene todo. Me hizo reír. Me hizo llorar. Me perturbó.

I really don’t get it... turn to pages 14-15, then Google image search Chidorigataki Falls. The first image you encounter is the exact same one on those pages. Not a pencil and ink recreation but a cut, paste, filter, scratch some lines Photoshopped piece. On a two page splash for goodness’s sakes! Lieutenant Tsurumi is in need of a very particular set of skills, and he finds an apparent Norman Bates/Buffalo Bill lovechild who is just the freak for the job! There’s an abbreviated Indiana Jones inspired mine cart chase with explosive results and an unexpected rescuer, and more fun than you can shake an ekimne kuwa at!

I will follow the squick cheatsheet she gave me to the letter from now on. Me: I'm a grown woman, I can handle a little human taxidermy. Friend A: ...I really don't think that's a good idea. An interesting volume yet a little too offputting in regards to the whole Edogai arc. Lt. Tsurumi's plans though are interesting and I'm excited to see where it leads. We got some great insight into one of my favorite characters, the hunter Tanigaki. An interesting volume yet a little too offputting in regards to the whole Edogai arc. Lt. This was honestly the first volume to me that was fantastic through and through. Characterization is bleeding through the insanity and I like that. Some relatable characters, as fucked up as they are. Overall, a 5/5.

I'm really not fond of these last few volumes that rely heavily on gags and insane chases and devote way too many pages to the antics of the insane posse joining up with Tsurumi.
