The author sent me a review request through the contact us link of this blog. I did agree to review the book and make room for this because this is an ARC. This is a story about a woman who have abandonment issues and who was dumped in front of a lot of people in a family gathering at his boyfriend's house. Then, she meets real estate mogul in the club she works for and their attraction and chemistry is undeniable. Why this story is called Electric Impulse is explained in the book. It's about the flowers and bees. The real story why bees know which flowers are ripe with pollen is because of electric impulse. Not the flowers and the bees version that parents give to their children to explain sex. It's an electric field that somehow leads the bees to the flowers and then bees carry the nectar so the flowers could be fertilized. How electric impulse is relevant in the story? You will have to find out. I don't want to spoil anything. So, Aria and Phoenix. These are the two main characters in this story. By the way, this is a steamy book, so read at your own risk. Anyway, these two cross paths and the attraction between them was very palpable. You can feel it in the air but Aria is already taken. Then, the unthinkable happened and her boyfriend dumped her. In some way, fate seems to intervene and these two meet again after that drunken behavior of Phoenix in the club. They hang out and the rest is obvious. It turns out, Aria has a lot of things that he did not know about Phoenix and when they were revealed, it was a total shock to her. She felt like she was being played. I too was surprised at the twists in the story. I never expected that Phoenix had secrets but then again, the story would be so boring without those curveballs right. They were just so unexpected that I was totally surprised and speechless just like Aria when she found out. The story is not exactly new but the way it was written was very engaging that I couldn't put it down. I had to finish it. There was this unseen force or electric field that urge me to just get on and finish the story. There's no stopping it. I also like that the story seems to backtrack. It did no start with the present but rather from six months ago when main character became undone or at a pivotal point in her life. At some point, some chapters of the present are inserted in between. It was a clever way of arranging the chapters which in a way explains why I was glued and just couldn't let go of the story. It gives me snippets of some thing that's about to happen but then doesn't exactly give me a clue on what it was. The anticipation building was absolutely done perfectly and was the key in making me finish the book in one go. The force was just irresistible. I was rendered powerless and can't do anything but succumbed to it until I reach the final pages. So, I give the story 4.5/5 bees. Again, the story is not new but the way it was written was doubtlessly refreshing. It was probably the best thing about the story. How the chapters were paced and arranged was so clever. It keeps the readers anticipating and in suspense but still keeping to the story. I was never at some point, confused or lost as to how the story goes even if the chapters were not done in order of occurrence. This isn't the first time I've seen it but it was the first that have I seen it done this way. I have read books before that was ordered differently but how it was done in this story was a different variation. Great job to the author for attempting that feat and had successfully done it. It was risky but was done perfectly and the timing of the events were not lost at all. I really liked what the author wrote below and I think if you want to curse someone this is the best way to do it. This curse will definitely give you good karma and will return to you a thousand fold, which of all the curses in the world you will not definitely feel sorry for. I would definitely want to be cursed this way too. Go on do it! I curse you with abundance that's so full and bursting at the seams, it allows you to be generous, kind and caring to those around you in need. I curse you with a happiness so deep and profound, that you beam, shining like the sun everywhere you go. And for every person that lays eyes on your brilliance, I curse them to be inspired to live as fully as you are. - Angel Hilson, Electric Impulse - Thank you, Angel Hilson for the ARC. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series and find out what else do you have that will surprise me. Hopefully, you'd be able to maintain the same engagement that had me hooked on the story. I hope you could maintain the same pace and keep that electric field and have your readers finish your stories in one sitting. Congratulations on Electric Impulse! And yes, I like this cover better than the other one.

Electric IMPULSE: Love, Life & Sex is Book One introducing an adult romance series and Aria Davenport, who believes her life is on a set trajectory to a predictable course of college, marriage to her beau, and a happily-ever-after conclusion. Unfortunately, life has a way of thwarting even the best-laid plans, as Aria discovers when her fiancée dumps her the day before her college graduation just as she's on the cusp of realizing all her dreams. Sent into a tailspin over the sudden derailing of Electric IMPULSE: Love, Life & Sex is Book One introducing an adult romance series and Aria Davenport, who believes her life is on a set trajectory to a predictable course of college, marriage to her beau, and a happily-ever-after conclusion. Unfortunately, life has a way of thwarting even the best-laid plans, as Aria discovers when her fiancée dumps her the day before her college graduation just as she's on the cusp of realizing all her dreams. Sent into a tailspin over the sudden derailing of her careful objectives, Aria is hurt, confused, and ripe for exploitation. As the savvy, clever, secretive businessman Phoenix catches the eye of this fiery beauty and decides to make her part of his own plans for success, Aria finds her hormones are on fire. Both are consumed by a passion for sex and success that drives them together in a burst of flames that both justifies the title Electric IMPULSE and sets the stage for a rollicking ride through love, lust, success, failure, and everything in between. The ideal reader of Electric IMPULSE won't be stymied or put off by graphic sexual descriptions or the ribald explorations of a young woman who finds her world has shut down unexpectedly; then opened up in new ways. Crushing disappointment neatly sets the scene for something far from Aria's intentions or knowledge, and while there is a good degree of give-and-take and some manipulation and special interests at stake; also present is the kind of growth opportunity and exploration that sets the stage for confronting childhood issues and adult perceptions. Aria's growth takes place not just in the sexual arena but in her maturity level as she embarks on a journey she could never have predicted, jump-starting a stagnant love life with a relationship she can barely define as 'love', much less the kind of lifestyle she'd envisioned as being her original goal. To call this story a 'romance' alone would be to do it a disservice; though a powerful romantic overlay contributes to the story's appeal. Even though lust, sexual encounters, and love are part of Aria's story, just as compelling is the account of how she changes her relationships to the men and women in her life and how she evolves new insights and perspectives about life (whether for good or bad) based on her encounters and observations with Phoenix. Descriptions of these moments are astute and clear, marking the points where Aria learns about herself, Phoenix, values, and approaches to business and life. Electric IMPULSE is a pointed journey of self-discovery in which Aria lets go of her perception that her worth lies in her relationship with a man and embarks on a hunt for what is truly of value to her world. She initially doesn't know what she's getting into with Phoenix, but things are just starting to make sense. Readers who follow her journey will find it thought-provokingly vivid and filled with confrontation, reflection, observation, and the kinds of questions that lead to new beginnings, empowerment, and growth both for the protagonist and, possibly, for her followers. Women interested in contemporary blends of literary, psychological, and social reflection will find plenty to like about Ari and Electric IMPULSE, a story of how empowerment and self-realization actually begin.

Love, Life, and Sex. Definitely! This book had all of that and more. The characters were fun, sassy, loving, frustrating, and hatable. I found Aria and her girls to be the most fun to read and get to know. They are sassy, funny, and strong women. I love that about all of them. Aria had a few meltdowns, but that was understandable with all that she went through to find her man. Mia and Penelope, were fun to read. They are strong women who know what they want out of life and go for it.  Aria Davenp Love, Life, and Sex. Definitely! This book had all of that and more. Sebastian is a young man who has been given everything by his parents. He doesn't know what it's like to struggle or to make ends meet. His mother is a snob and doesn't think that Aria is good enough for her son. What mother ever thinks anyone is good enough for their son? However, she looks at Aria as if she stepped in something smelly and brought the stench with her. A mistake of identity leads to a nasty confrontation between Aria and Sebastian, and they have a messy public break-up. Aria works as a waitress at a local night club and while working met a man who is rich and powerful. Their first meeting was both great and not so great, by the end of the evening. Phoenix Prescott is a man who has made the Forbes 30 under 30 magazine cover, and his wealth has given him power in the city. He is a man who does what he wants and enjoys life. His relationship with Aria, when it finally happens, is a roller coaster ride for Aria. She isn't sure that it's a good thing at times, but at others, she can't seem to get enough of Phoenix. This story has a lot of twists, especially when Aria and Phoenix's relationship gets going. Every time I thought they would make it something else would come up. The final chapter title made my heart drop, until I read it.  I am so happy that this book was brought to my attention, I loved the story and the characters in it. I also love the cover! I hope to read more books with these characters and learn more about the lives of Mia, Riz, JC, and Penelope. I give this book 4 star review and highly recommend it to readers who enjoy a love story that has a lot of ups and downs, but a Happily Ever After.

Phoenix starts off on the wrong foot with Aria. She is working overtime at a bar, and he drunkenly gets angry with her for not kissing him. Aria just thinks that she is another one of those typical customers and tries to erase him from her memory. She already has enough issues with her ex-boyfriend getting together with his "best friend" one day after she misses their date for work.  When Phoenix comes back into her life, apologetic, she starts a whirlwind romance with him. Everything seems fine, Phoenix starts off on the wrong foot with Aria. Everything seems fine, but both of them have secrets that they are hiding from each other. Will they be able to overcome their differences and listen to their hearts? This book had an interesting romance between two unlikely candidates, but by the end of the book, I felt as if I could not truly like either character.  For starters, I could never get into Phoenix as a love interest. Even though he apologized, who wants to date a guy who has a chance of becoming a huge douchebag after drinking? Then, later in the story, a few other facts are realized about him that makes him an even worse boyfriend candidate. By the time I got to the end of the book, the only two reasons Aria seemed to be with him were because of the fact that he had a lot of money and the fact that they had chemistry in bed. While these may have seemed like attractive features to her, she has a friend whom she completely pushed to the side for him, and he could have been a far more viable and less problematic candidate. Nevertheless, this doesn't mean that Aria wasn't problematic herself.  Aria was the typical crazy girlfriend several times within the story. Rather than truly talking to Phoenix, even when he was acting suspicious and seeming to sneak around, she just follows him in her car. She does that at least 2-3 times in the story, and none of these times actually lead to revealing any of Phoenix's true secrets. Instead, she causes foolish unnecessary drama and gets distracted from the real problems in their relationship. He just simply shows her the truth and goes on about his day.  Once all of Phoenix's cards were out on the table, I felt that they didn't make as good of a pair as they had originally seemed. I won't say how the story ended, but this was just how I felt near the end of the book.   The writing wasn't bad! I loved how the story was written, and how the plot flowed. I think that the characters were just so realistic in a way, flaws and all, that it made me mad at them as if they were real people. I think that if people could get past being upset with the characters that they would be able to enjoy reading this story. Even though I was annoyed, I flew through this story almost entirely in one sitting. It was one of the smoothest novels that I had read in a while, even though it was only medium length at around 300 PDF pages. I can't say that the story was awful because it was written so well and some parts were enjoyable! It was just the fact that the chemistry of the characters was lost somewhat to the circumstances that they were in that made it annoying at points.  I would recommend this novel to lovers of realistic diverse romance stories.  I received an advance copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.  Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

This is a freshman novel for author Angel Hilson, but it reads like she's been writing for a decade with lots of bestsellers to boast about. I thoroughly enjoyed how she introduces each supporting character to the reader. It's similar to how you introduce new friends into your group. I found myself applauding their accomplishments and smiling as they're personal lives positively progressed. The story has excellent flow, lots of exciting details to keep you interested and stayed true to contemporary times. Women are independent, encouraging, know how to let loose and still be sweet. They don't need a man, but enjoy the company of them on their terms. One change I'd make is how Nick, owner of The Lotus, addresses his staff. Instead of terms of endearment from the 70s & 80s, he'd be more respectful. Sexual harassment could be argued if the employees were real. Just an observation. I had an idea of the direction of the story, but couldn't guess the ending. It's a good ending and brings closure to this story, but with plenty of room for book 2. It's not a cliffhanger at all. Thank goodness!! I'm excited to read more books in this series and hope the enthusiasm continues.

Electric Impulse is a fun, emotional read that takes you on so many ups and downs. I'll admit, it took me a minute to get into this story but when I did I was hooked! Phoenix is larger than life, his secrets are bigger though. Aria is a lot more forgiving than myself. I feel like she was used through some of the story. She deserved so much more than what was handed to her. I just wish she realized she did. Why the four stars if I couldn't get pass Phoenix's lies? Because I was honestly enthralled with the story, I seriously couldn't put it down. I felt everything Aria felt. I loved with her, I cried with her, I partied with her, and I was angry with her. Aria shines through the pages and you couldn't have a better MC.

I’m going to give this 4 stars for the writing of this novel, because I do have to say that it was incredibly well done, though for me it was tough to get into. It’s not often too, we have stories with characters of minorities, and for that, I applaud the author greatly. Aria and Phoenix have a chemistry that’s totally undeniable and red hot. Electric Impulse: Love, Life & Sex (Book One) by Angel Hilson is a romance for fans who love it sizzling and character-driven, and it's fair to indicate that it's a book written for mature readers. The day before her graduation, Sebastian, the man she'd dreamed of spending her life with, dumps her in front of everyone at the family gathering. Just when she thinks she'll never have anything to do with men, something unusual happens. Phoenix Prescott, a real estate mogul, comes into her life. Serving him as a VIP in Club Lotus, Aria catches his attention in a way no other woman has done and it's not long before Aria finds herself wanting him. But can she tame a man as handsome and as wild as the real estate magnate? The story opens with the breakup at the moment Aria has to meet the family of her boyfriend. The mother is domineering and seems to make decisions for her son. The drama begins quickly enough and there is no slowing down. Angel Hilson has the gift of capturing human emotions in her writing in a way that makes the reader feel as though they were part of the characters. Her characters are real and their humanity is deeply felt and deepened as the reader moves from one intense scene to the next captivating one. The writing is gorgeous and it exudes sensuality. This is a story that explores the workings of the human heart and the author blends romance with the erotic aspect of love to take readers on an emotional ride. Character development is skillfully handled and readers will love to follow Aria as she responds to the devastating breakup with the man she loves. Insights into her childhood open a new way of appreciating the story from a psychological perspective. Told in the first person narrative voice, the story pulls readers into the worldview of the protagonist and keeps them focused throughout the narrative. Electric Impulse: Love, Life & Sex (Book One) is intoxicating and electrifying.

What a ride I give this 4.5 stars only because their were a lot of editing errors. The writing style and the fact that the story was told by the heroine was somewhat challenging at times. The premise of the story was captivating. The story was filled with drama but overall it was a good read. Looking forward to catching up with Ari and Phoenix.

Wow!! I enjoyed how the author introduced the characters and how she truly dealt with love, life & sex. I can normally predict and ending but this one has so many twist & turns I stayed up reading until after 1 AM just to find out how it really ended. This was my first read by this author and she did a great job. I would probably warn readers of the sexual content😳

I like her ensemble of characters, which depict both good and bad sides of human nature. I like that in Angel Hilson's world, women can have men as friends, their own careers, and their our opinions. One thing that bothered me was how Aria was in my opinion, too quick to give in and forgive. She was supposed to be her own woman, strong and knowing her worth. It turns out, love blinded her, and in the name of that love, all kinds of asshole acts can be forgiven. It made me little sad but that's how life is, we all have our Achilles heel.

Very Good Book When Aria falls in love she falls hard.I was mad at what her so called boyfriend Sebastian did to her. She then meets Phoenix. Why didn't he just tell Aria he was married. I was leery about getting this book at 1st but after taking a chance on it, I absolutely LOVED it!!!!!! This book really captivates your senses and draws you into the plot. Cover to cover read in 2 days. There was some back and forth with the timeline but it really helped me to put the overall book into perspective. I'm so glad I took a chance on this book and I'm waiting for the next. I was leery about getting this book at 1st but after taking a chance on it, I absolutely LOVED it!!!!!! She is graduating from college soon and works at a very high-class nightclub. She has been dating Sebastian who also attends the same school. He has invited her to meet his parents. His father is friendly enough, but his mother thinks Ari is not good enough for her son. He doesn't take up for her as his mother is nasty to her. He had invited her to a barbecue at their home and the night before the cookout Ari has to work a double shift and tries to call him to tell him she can't make their date, but he doesn't answer his phone. He embarrasses her in front of his entire family calling her names and throwing her out of his home. The night she worked the double she met a very wealthy man, Phoenix. He is enamored with her, but because she doesn't kiss him when he tells her to, he calls her out of her name. She tells her boss who is his friend and says he'll handle it. The next day she gets a letter of apology and ten thousand dollars cash from Phoenix. He and his friends from childhood start to date Aria and her girls. One of his guys is married and his wife doesn't like the girls. Great read I couldn't put it down.

If I had to pick three words to describe Electric Impulse: Love, Life & Sex by Angel Hilson, those words would be “very tastefully done.” I like this novel. I like the writing. If you tried to tell this story but set it in Europe or Canada, it would be a very different tale. This genre is not one I read as much as I do sci-fi, fantasy, or thrillers, but if more writers were as capable and talented as Angel Hilson, I just might. She has an extraordinary ability to tell a good story. First, I liked the plot, the story itself. It was very grounded in reality and believability. Nothing stretched my willingness to suspend disbelief too far. I could jump in and feel this happened. These people are real. Next, I loved the characters. I liked the protagonist and her friends. Aria is a girl I could fall for. Even characters I could not like, such as Sebastian and his mother, were still totally believable and fitted in with the story. I like that I did not even realize the story is about an African-American girl, and her friends and family until a few pages in. I liked the descriptive writing. I liked that it wasn't overdone. Plot, setting, and characters all contributed to a satisfying conclusion. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I really enjoyed this book about Aria and Phoenix even though I didn’t care for the back and forth in the timeline. This aurthor has given us some amazing characters to want to get to know. Aria thought she was going to be getting engaged to Sebastian, but he totally humiliated her at the family reunion instead. This book will have you laughing in parts and then smiling in parts. All I can say is be ready for a long read as we find Aria Davenport was one who thought she had it all planned out the way her life was happening, but how soon she will find out it was not to be. It was quite a interesting read to see how all of this will play out for her. After what happens to Aria will she be able to find some one else whom she would get a HEA. I will say that Aria did get on my nerves a bit in how she taking all of this in but hopefully by the end she really grows up in knowing just what was there for her to take on if she had to all by herself. Well, all I can say you will just have to pick up this "Electric Impulse" to understand and find out how and if Aria will finally get there. This author really works us as she gives the reader quite a read that will keep you turning the pages to see what was coming next for Aria. Be ready for plenty of twist and turns and secrets as insecurities that seem to start to open up for Aria as she becomes more involved with Phoenix Prescott. Has Aria finally found the love of her life?

But Phoenix has secrets. Secrets that can destroy Aria's already fragile heart and trust. There's one lie too many, one surprise too many. They're either headed on the road to forever or heartbreak. A few weeks ago I received an email from Angel Hilson asking if I would be interested in reading her book. I receive review requests daily and turn down most. However, Angel said that she was making this request because of a review of mine that she had run across for a book written by one of my favorite authors. This caught my attention. I wasn't a random reviewer. I didn't respond but did get the book. I figured if I didn't like it, I could simply stay silent. Instead, I am thrilled to say I have discovered a talented, new writer. Electric Impulses is excellent! I realized when I started reading this book how few books are written about young African American characters. They are always the best friend or a side character, often they are stereotypically depicted. Not here. Angel Hilson is a voice that must get an audience. Her characters are so very human, beautifully flawed, and also inserting their own brand of diversity. This normalcy is exactly what is missing and needed from contemporary romance. There is a depth to this story. It's well-written. It's entertaining and emotionally evocative. The storyline focuses on a short window of Aria's post-college life and her new experiences and upheaval during this time period. Captivating and relatable. The characters were all fantastic, lead and supporting. Aria and Phoenix were exceptionally good together except when they weren't (You'll have to read to understand). Their chemistry was electric. Aria's abandonment issues and lack of self-worth (personal, not professional) had me in her corner from the beginning. Phoenix didn't come off quite as good at times. His secrets, his dishonesty reeked of cowardliness and thoughtlessness. I could only forgive him because of Aria and because he was a decent man. My only complaint was that I didn't get more! I wanted the love affair to continue on the page. I wanted an update on her horrible ex with the continuing deterioration of his life and I wanted more of Troy and the t-shirt business. I am hopeful that there will be more in the future. I need to know what the 'we' does next! Please!!

Really, the worst! Severe daddy issues!!! So, this is my first time reading this author and I do not know yet if I will again; every thing was wrong with this story!!! I must say that the cover and the summary as well as the beginning was perfect, inviting, solid, promising, and I couldn't wait to start reading for good. I enjoyed and appreciated how MS.Hilson did it by having Aria repeat the story from months on how everything had started between her and Phoenix. I must say that this was probably the highlight in the book as no author that I have read has done this type of story telling. That said, this was what had pushed me into finishing this book (which by the way took me too long to finish...hint, hint!!!) On this note, let me tell you what was wrong with this book: 1) although the plot was good, how it got developed was so confusing. On one end you have Aria, the heroine, sounding very young, gullible, childish and down home country, yet she seems (whithin the same sentence) mature a little bit specially with her girls, who by the way we're the other highlight of the book, Mia and Penelope, a riot these two. 2) you have Phoenix who is doing a disservice to all mankind as he was portrayed as a dog, a cheater and a nasty drunk. Why would you put your hero as being like that? You have him seem to be a pillar, worked from the ground up to be what he is now, yet he is married or not? Divorced or not? And kids or not? Or they are in boarding school, why when they are only 10years old? Weird🤔🤔🤔 3) you have now your heroine having so much Daddy issues and yet although you explained why, never thought of giving her a backbone to actually stand for herself and be a woman as we all had to be. 4) why couldn't you put her with Troy then, at least she was fierce with this relationship, while with Phoenix she sounded like a doormat for whenever he wanted to stop by or not. Finally 5) the whole story was very confusing, in the sense of; at one point, she graduates, but never got a job until Phoenix helped her out yet her online business she was not even showing that she was working on it or even writing (which was mention at the beginning). Then at one point, they go to Miami during Labor Day weekend and for her to start work on that Tuesday after but not once was it ever mentioned that she did, and how was it? except that after a while which would have bought us around October and November ( since it was cold) and that was when we knew of her job. By that point she had broken up with Phoenix yet took him back in a heart beat, daddy issues! Definitely not happy that I have not only gotten this book but I spent that time reading it and trying to get into it, but there were too many uncertainties and confusion...I really think it needed to have a 2nd part to be able to explain it better or at least a reedit ing, added a couple more chapters specially involving Sebastian who was discarded so quickly, we all forgot that all this started with and because of him!!!

That had to be my favorite part of this book. Too many flashbacks! The going back and forth only made the story that much more confusing. I know Aria suffered from "daddy-abandonment " issues, but she allowed Phoenix to get away with too much for too long. He is a deceitful, dishonest cheat. Also too many grammatical errors. All relationships seem to have there issues sure but this story seems to have plenty. They say women just need to go with their gut, but sometimes there is just so much envoled. I am not sure I would be able to accept the outcome.
