Assassin with a heart? Well, kind of. She is actually pretty cutthroat when dealing with humanity's dregs. But when she learns a family member she had thought dead was, in fact, alive and being kept from her while at the same she was set up to fail at successfully completing an assignment... Well, she was not happy. And when Sei isn't happy, unpredictable things happen. Recommended for folks who like their action down and dirty. Assassin with a heart? Well, kind of. They have been lucky and have found some clues but they are too late to save another victim. Abby has figured it out and can she & Kyle stop the game or is this just the beginning? A good read. Sei has made a new life for herself she can't go back to her old life but this time she has no choice. Someone has her daughter but Sei was told that she has died at birth so she will need to find out the truth and hopefully find her daughter. The job should be easy help the prisoner escape and she will get her daughter back but nothing is that simple. She almost loses her life makes a new ally and finds out the truth about the man behind the job. Everything Sei knew about herself is about to be questioned. I hope that she does find her daughter and that she gets there to take the Wolf down. This time it is personal. A good read full of action.

'Abby' etc is a detective series; although impossible to tell which comes first in that series. 'Sei' is an assassin; which seems to be regarded as a fine upstanding kind of profession. The 'Abby' part isn't too bad, though unremarkable. Relatively reliable detective stuff; if you need another detective series (as if there aren't already enough) then here's another to getcha teeth into. The 'Sei' part is quite innovative, I enjoyed it. I'll read the next two and see how it turns out. As mentioned above, it seems to be great profession for this very small asian woman, mainly because she is very quick and deadly apparently. Asians seem to like this kind of thing.

Sampler - two novels from different series. Kobo version has no SBN but does list copyright dates. Russian Hill (2013) is the first of three novels in the Chasing Chinatown sequence (though not the first Abby Kane books). The protagonist is an FBI agent working in San Francisco, having relocated from Hong Kong. She is tasked with finding the murderer of a hiker in Muir Woods - and quickly concludes that there is a serial killer in action. Partnered with SFPD Detective Kang she finds the clues that lead to the killer - but the macabre game continues. A very readable introduction to the character - I read the thing in around 24 hours and want to know more about Abby Kane, as well as reading the other two books in this series. Contract: Snatch (2015) is also the first of a sequence, though in this case seems to be the first book featuring Sei, a retired assassin who is enveigled back to work with a threat to her previously unknown daughter. That's explained early on - and what follows is a fascinating account of her contracted job which, inevitably, goes awry. Once again the main plot elements are tied up but there are loose ends which lead into the next book. A fast read - with an incredibly high body count! These two are marketed as a 'starter' which is an accurate description - for some reason I'm less irritated by the cliffhangery endings than usual - probably a sign of a decent author... Certainly a readable one!

Great Reads Highly Recommend I thoroughly enjoyed both Russian Hill and the Sei starter thriller that followed. Russian Hill ended with me asking questions. And wanting more. The story line of Russian Hill was intriguing with many twists and turns. When i finally thought they had the bad guy the story left you questioning. The Sei Thriller totally different. You thought you knew who the bad guy was till the very end when things changes. The plot was great and interesting. Two different 1st of a series book's provided together with each having distinctive and different storylines. Personally I enjoyed the Abby Kane book somewhat more that the Sei volume likely due to the 1st having a more comfortable and familiar setting/character type in comparison to the world of a hired assassin. The stories provide readers action, twists and endings that will tie easily to the next story of the series. 3.5 stars Two different 1st of a series book's provided together with each having distinctive and different storylines. Sei again and again! Sei is such a badass that you can't help but root for her. This book has so many twists and turns that you want to shake your head at absolute wicked ways she gets in and out of trouble. I have read about 4 of Mr Hutchinson's books and they just seem to get better and better. Thank you for giving all of us the chance to get to know you through your books. Sei again and again! Abby Kane is some kind of sleuth. Her profiling is superb. And what an athlete! Okay, I was glued to the book to the end. Sei (one name only) has perseverance. She is so tough. Even though she is an assassin, she has morals and a conscience. I don't know who I like better, Abby or Sei. Both were good reads Abby Kane is some kind of sleuth. Her profiling is superb. Great stories and I could hardly put the book down. Mr. Hutchinson 's writing was enjoyable as he developed the characters and moved the story line along very quickly. I look forward to reading more of his books. Great stories and I could hardly put the book down. DOS POR UNO.... Two works for the price of one; a bargain in a world of sun-faded paperbacks in a cardboard box in the corner of a bookstore. Sallie (USA) provides a good voice; Text to Speech.

A good thriller! A good thriller with an assassin for a heroine. She thinks she's retired until she's offered a job with her daughter as payment. A good thriller! A good thriller with an assassin for a heroine. She thinks she's retired until she's offered a job with her daughter as payment.
