Conflicted... 3 stars ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So I checked out a new author today and I really like doing that because I’m usually surprised, in a good way. There are many many talented authors that are yet to be discovered. You can usually tell from the first couple of chapters, and sometimes even the first couple of pages, whether or not it is going to be a well-written and interesting story. That’s how it was with this one. I had a pretty good feeling that I was going to enjoy the story. However, I did have a few issues that bared their head as I moved thru the story. My first issue is that this turned out to be a young adult story that was not declared as such; (always frustrating elements included for me). Not only that, the main female, Jaq, came off as kind of a prick tease. I’m not even sure that’s correct term to use. However, she dated a lot of men, one of which was for quite a long time, but never moved forward in the relationship. Then came Patrick and she had to decide whether to let her other boyfriends go to be with this guy. Not my favorite story or plot development. Another issue I had was that the female character seemed very shallow and almost juvenile in some aspects. I don’t know if the writing changed to that aspect or I was just getting annoyed with her character. But whatever it was, I was not enamored with her. Patrick was delicious and definitely mature (YUM) and took care of her when he could. We had to wait a long time for any heated scenes and there was only a few, although they were quite sexy for what they were. Kind of a downer in some aspects, but plenty of anticipation along the way, if you like that. I really enjoyed the addition of a suspense element as that added a bit of relief to the overall story and it allowed for Patrick to shine as a protector and definite good guy. Overall, if you are a YA reader then this is a story that you would really enjoy. With a little bit of suspense thrown in for interest and good development of the story, the author did do a great job on creating Patrick. The sexy scenes were the highlight of the story for me, only because of my issues with Jaq. *copy received for review consideration

Wow this is one intense story. The instaneous connection between Patrick and Jaq is mind blowing. All that happens to Jaq makes you cheer for her and Patrick. The pacing of this story is perfect as is the connections between all the characters. I can not wait to read the next book in this series.

I am not a big reader, but this book captured my attention. There was everything in it to keep me riveted and not wanting to put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who seeks fulfillment of romance.

The story of Jaq, a young woman who doesn't want to get serious about one man until she meets Patrick, a great guy who hasn't been completely honest. Dating more than one guy could get complicated, but she told each one about the other. Now there's one man who won't take no for an answer. Wow! What a nice surprise this book was! I've never read this author's work before, but now I'm looking forward to the next books in this series -- hopefully learning more about Jaq's friends. This story moved and at times really kept you on your toes -- the serial killer part of the story wasn't overdone and fit nicely into the story without being excessive. Really good romantic suspense! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for Netgalley. Wow! What a nice surprise this book was! 4 1/2 Star Review..... Patrick is an impressive first novel by Callie Carmen and definitely sets the foundation of what promises to be an exciting new series. Ms Carmen has written well-developed characters and a stirring plot that ensures readers are totally engrossed throughout the story. I’m looking forward to the next instalment of the Ricking Love series and learning more about the wonderful support cast and their road to romance. A wonderful read that I highly recommend.

Callie Carman certainly puts her M/C through the emotional wringer in this, her first release. From the heady heights of true love to the hot roller coaster of lust. I really loved this book. The characters are great and the story flows nicely. The love between the main characters had depth and passion. The author kept you on your toes with the thriller aspect of a serial killer. I’m not a big horror lover, so I was hesitant to read this. The serial killer pieces are tasteful and just enough to add a thrill aspect with out going overboard. I am absolutely going to buy the next book in this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This one got my emotions going. Jaq is an independent young woman who knows herself and what she wants. Patrick has less self confidence but he also knows what he wants and isn’t into playing games. Their love story itself was sweet but then we throw in the serial killer. That really kicked it up. I was worried about all the girls, Patrick, and Jaden. Every time I felt like something was going to happen I had to take a break. Suspense and romance. Lots of both. A true love story showing that if you are meant to be together you will end up together. This is a love story with a serial killer fixated on Jaq. The result is that you are unable to put the book down. Patrick is the kind of man that all girls dream about and Jaq is a girl who was hurt by her dad and as a result does not trust easyliy. A truly enjoyable read. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced, sensual romance. I felt really invested in the characters, to the point where I let out a "Oh, no!" aloud when it looked as though their fledgling relationship would crash to the ground. My husband wondered what was wrong with me! The sexual tension is intensified by the real sense of danger from the (truly terrifying) serial killer who stalks the heroine. I enjoyed reading Callie's book and will definitely be looking for Book Two in this series. The one thing I wished for, though, was more conflict between Jaq and Patrick, but that's only because I'm used to more direct relationship drama in the stories I read. This one was more of a sweet, hot story between two people who were up against a very creepy stalker dude. I am glad I gave this story a chance. Keep them coming, Callie! A great suspense romance. You don't immediately think of serial killers and romance in the same book, but this really works. There is suspense, love, heart-ache, all skillfully put together. There is a parallel story where a serial killer is preying on young women and Jaq is in his sights. At first I thought Patrick might be the serial killer given how intensely he seemed to feel about her, but it soon because clear it was a man that Jaq had dated once and who now is following her and leaving threatening voice mail messages on her phone. I found Jaq pretty immature for her age and the dialogue and somewhat cheesy dialogue during the love scenes made this a definite YA romance. The story wraps up with the serial killer caught, but then randomly Jaq finds out about Patrick's ex-wife and freaks out, breaking up with him. He chases her down and apologizes and they have sex for the first time. The epilogue has them preparing for a wedding. I had a really hard time getting into this book. Jaq was immature and Patrick was a bit too possessive. I'm not sure I want to read any more books in this series. I received this ARC from NetGalley.

I loved the nuances of the characters... Frankly, I frowned upon Jaq’s dating four guys at once before she met Patrick. That just seemed kinda… well, mean. On the other hand, Jaq was also a fairly innocent woman, certainly not someone who could be labeled ‘cheap’ or ‘easy’. Her father, while described as an alcoholic and an embarrassment to his family, is also portrayed as a kind man who was a decent person when he was sober. Then there’s Patrick. Her father, while described as an alcoholic and an embarrassment to his family, is also portrayed as a kind man who was a decent person when he was sober. Then there’s Patrick. I strongly suspect that culture comes into play when evaluating Patrick’s character. I would imagine that many readers from ‘progressive’ regions (such as the American Northeast and West Coast) might describe Patrick as ‘possessive’, or even ‘controlling’. I, however, was born and raised in the American South, where the ‘alpha male’ is the norm and not the exception. (Even our ladies often refer to passive or overly-solicitous men as ‘weenies’.) So how you view Patrick’s character depends on where you come from, I think, and what social expectations you’ve been bred to hold. Notice I didn’t really say anything about the serial killer, other than there is one. And I ain’t gonna, either… Don’t wanna spoil it for you, ya know? Patrick, by Callie Carmen. Go read it! You’ll be glad you did.

This was an excellent read! There's a serial killer, and the author did a good job of giving you a glimpse into his mind. There's also a young couple with some believable conflict and great chemistry. The sex scenes were sizzling. I'm a college professor, and I felt the couple accurately represented this age group.
