he Wicked Years is my favourite book series of all time. I love the Musical based on the first book, but the books themselves are far superior. Book 3 is a bit of a dip in the series as it starts off rather slow, but by the final 3rd of the book it picks up a bit more, leading in to book 4, which is by far the best of the series. The last few chapters of book 4 just make this one the most heartbreaking. Without giving away anything, if you read Wicked, but couldn’t be bothered with the others, yo he Wicked Years is my favourite book series of all time. I had so much hope for this series. I would give Wicked a 4 star rating, Son of a Witch 3 stars and A Lion Among Men 2 stars. I got through about 1/3 of A Lion Among Men before I finally had to give up to keep my sanity. I hate abandoning a series 3/4 of the way through, but I couldn't keep trudging along. I don't think my reading preferences mesh well enough with Maguire's writing style. Sad to say, I probably won't be reading any more of his novels. I had so much hope for this series.
