I love everything by Bethany Wicker and this was no exception. She has this ability to just make her characters so dang likable. It's not a talent all authors have. Sera is a Siren who is hated because of the human blood within her. But the humans hate her because she's a siren. She's not safe on land or in the sea so she climbs aboard a boat where she encounters a man with a reputation. Nothing said about Bloody Steel is true - well almost nothing. He's kind to her and protects her... eventually I love everything by Bethany Wicker and this was no exception. She has this ability to just make her characters so dang likable. Heartfelt, exciting, original - you can't go wrong with this one.

THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON THE ENTIRE TWO BOOKS OF THIS UNFINISHED SERIES. IS IT JUST ME OR I FELT TOTALLY DISCONNECTED FROM THE CHARACTERS? I LIKED THE IDEA BUT IT WASN'T WELL EXECUTED AND NOT TO MENTION THE STORY LEFT ME HANGING ON A CLIFF HANGER... HERO didn't strike an impression and it felt mostly like he was faded into the background, we don't know his thoughts and frankly I don't even see how their relationship could bloom into THAT without offering some insides to their "forming" a relationship or even spending time together , add in the clean romance... meh it just spoilt the whole story for me. HEROINE was not bad considering the circumstances though I did wished it wasn't so YA. She supposedly watched her mother got killed and her father but ended up realising that she's a Siren Princess. OVERALL it lacked depth, like everything was scratching the surface and I wished there was some proper character development and actually some good ol' lust and chemistry.

I was delighted to receive an ARC of this book, a wonderful combination of mermaid magic and swashbuckling pirate action. Though this book was a departure from Ms. Wicker's prolific werewolf series, it was no less fun to read. Sera is half-human, half-siren; caught between two worlds, she is welcomed by neither. Seeking an escape, she stows away aboard a ship. And then the fun begins because ... pirates! No spoilers, but this was a very enjoyable, quick read. I recommend it to anyone who loves pirate stories, adventure, with just a hint of romance and mystery. Bring on the next book!

Bethany Wicker's The Pirate's Siren is a story about Sera, a siren whose mother was killed by other sirens. She escaped only to find herself on a pirate ship with humans who wouldn't hesitate to kill a siren before that siren killed them. However, Sera is different and soon befriends those who would be her enemies. It's a neat twist on mermaid romance. Reread maart 2020: Opnieuw heb ik enorm genoten van dit verhaal!
