In my opinion, first person mysteries are all about the narrator’s voice. They sink or sing depending on the wit and likeability of the narrator. In this book 3 of the Pepper Kane Mystery Series, GHOST RANCH sings like an oversexed canary. The writing is spot-on. The spoken and internal dialogue is reminiscent of the Magnum P. The imagery of Southern Oregon is so accurate that I could almost taste the bleu cheese at Rogue Valley Creamery. Sassy Pepper Kane—and her daughter Chili (cute)—have done it again in this clever who-done-the-deed. I don’t even read mysteries and I loved it. This is an author who needs to be recognized for her versatility, wit and skill. Pepper Kane is one cool cowgirl. Lucky for us, the books in the series are all stand-alone. The author catches us up with subtle clues as to back story so we don't feel either lost or patronized. I've enjoyed the previous books in the series and will be looking forward to the next. This is a good series to get hooked on.
