(Unless you are a dietician looking to further your education to help patients, etc.) I'm torn, because a part of me feels like this book wasn't what I'm looking for. While it includes a generous amount of material that isn't readily available via a quick Google search to Web MD, it also felt like there was a particular agenda based on diet here. If you are a member of the group that partakes in the paleo diet, you'll be set here. While I didn't really find much new under my symptomatic areas (such as eat mushy foods, grazed throughout the day, chewing very slowly and thorough, and sipping fluids separately from meals), I appreciate what the author is trying to provide here. I found the daily food schedules and recipes to be the most helpful parts, and while I don't feel like my life has been changed, I'm glad I read it. Back to the drawing board!

So the bad things that happen tend to be dealt with on me own.  However, life changes occurred in 2018 that made this book relevant and helpful and so figured I would share in case some other crew member may need it. Beginning in March 2018 and taking until December 2018, I experienced intestinal pain of such intensity that I would be laid out in me bunk for days at a time.  Thousands of dollars in medical tests later gave me negative results and no pain relief.  Then I got a new primary doctor  who suggested a low-FODMAP diet.  Basically for reasons no one understands, my body suddenly stopped being able to digest certain types of sugars.  Diabetes runs rampant in me family so I don't know if there is a correlation but there is no denying that beloved foods now cause excruciating pain.  And a lot of that pain shows up with anywhere from 4 to 10 pounds of stomach bloat. This book showed up towards the end of journey into the FODMAP diet.  I had already been (finally) diagnosed and was at the tail end of figuring out the list of many foods that cause me grief.   But I saw this title on NetGalley, thought "well more information is always good", and got a partial eArc from the publisher.  I was mainly interested in the recipe recommendations and to see what other recommendations there were for combating bloat as all the doctors were disinclined or confused about how to actually treat the recurring systems that just wouldn't go away.  None of the standard medication worked for me. So I ended up really liking this book as an additional resource.  The particular sections that were invaluable dealt with supplements, fiber, and the research results of some of the recent studies.  I do think this would be a great starting point into possibilities of bloating issues and wish I had this back in the beginning.  There is even a quiz to that can help determine which conditions ye might have.  So much suffering and useless medical tests could have been avoided.  I do have to say that the recipes in this book were lackluster.  Basically there are a couple of recipes for each type of diagnosis.  So don't buy this for the recipes.  But if ye experience unusual painful bloating and are at a loss as to how to get rid of it then this book might be handy. WOW!!! This book is absolutely amazing. As I read the pages I realized exactly how much my eating habits were effecting my stomach. I learned ways to be creative with different items and what was best for certain problematic issues. I had a drs appt and so I read this before I went. I shared a few things with my dr and she wants to buy a copy when it is available. I found questions that were imperative to find the answers to because I have diabetes. A truly informative read for all those who suffer from the bloated belly issues and is seeking relief. To say everything is back to norm after 18 yrs for me is an understatement as I was left with a hole in my stomach and had to use butterfly bandaids for healing. My son had a gtube insertion, esophageal atresia, stomach reflux, dilated spinchter, terrible constipation to point of laxatives and other avenues such as grape juice and powdered formats. So I have years of experience along with my parents who suffer the same with blood in stools among other issues to lengthy to discuss. I truly found what I sought in this wonderful new book by Tamara. She discusses everything with such exquisite detail that's hard not to take anything away that can be built upon with your own doctor. The proper diets, the right amount of exercise, the correct way to handle various issues with checks and balances, providing the correct meal plans in a variety of options, plus questions and answers for verification is just what the doctor ordered. When she noted if you feel you have PI immediately flip to page 10 there I was saying ,'Hello' while on hold with the gastro doctor. Ironically GP gatroparesis affects 2% of population but if you're like me and unlucky in health than you'll know to add that one to the list. Fiber rich foods are key but depending on your individual situation you need to understand where you fall on the scale and add or take away that which will help or hamper your current situation. Absolutely enjoyed this book as it provides many unique answers you won't find anywhere else. Thank you to Tamara Duker Freuman for this gem, her publisher St. Martin's Press, and Goodreads Giveaways for this ARC in exchange for this honest review. I hope this provides others who suffer the same with relief as it's well researched, highly informative, and enjoyable to read.

This book is a great way to start an investigation into what's going on with your guts. I asked for it with someone particular in mind and like the way the quiz will help determine if it is one of the issues addressed in the book. No one is saying to skip the doctor, quite the opposite, but if you've been and not gotten the results you expected or have to wait for an available appointment, this is a good resource. What makes this book even better is that she includes charts of what to try to avoid and what to eat with various issues and most importantly gives non-boring recipes that will work for those with certain dietary concerns due to belly issues. The recipes look so good that I will try quite a few of them even though I have no dietary concerns. I highly recommend this book both to those in the medical field looking for a comprehensive guide to these issues and to the common man searching for answers to discomfort and distress. The book includes sections with simple diagrams and terms that are explained in language most people who would pick up a book will understand. (I received this book in a goodreads giveaway.)

Wish I had this book ten years ago, my life might be more comfortable. Do you have any bloat? If yes, then read this book which looks at the most common reasons for bloating and gives ways of reducing the problem. Many causes can be helped with diet, but others require a little medicinal help. Best, this book helps you articulate the symptoms so you and your doctor can set up the best course of treatment.

The Bloated Belly Whisperer was definitely a good book for me. The quiz was very interesting and a good starting point for figuring out my symptoms. It looks at the reasons for bloating and how diet could help these problems. It was a very easy to read book and full of very useful information. It was easy to read and understand. The recipes look very good I will be trying them as soon.

I admit I don't have bloated belly problems, but several members of my family do, so I decided to see if I could find any useful tips for them. So far, my sister has bemoaned the fact that she has to limit the basic staples of her diet and find a whole new way to eat but she admits that she's feeling a bit better. Take that with a grain of salt, as she might just be humoring me. Recipe-wise, I've tried 2 and they were okay. Most of the ingredients in almost all the recipes are things I'm not a giant fan of but I can see it as a starting point for someone who has to change diet. They are fairly simple and most of the ingredients are things most people already have in their kitchens or at least easy to find in most stores. What I particularly liked in this volume is the supplement guide at the end. A comprehensive list of popular supplements and health solutions with an honest explanation of what they're supposed to do, what they actually do, possible side-effects, and if they're worth taking. Easy to understand and really helpful. Mandatory note: I got my copy through First Reads.

This chapter was of particular interest since I have been taking supplements while searching for an effective intervention. The book will be in bookstores later this year, as I understand it. Ms. Friedman's writing style is clear, non-jargon, and well-cited. She works within the establishment and shows humor. The book is not full of filler material, meaning there is not a lot of story-telling or opinionating. She discusses information, encourages one to work with their doctor, and for one to make informed, rational and scientifically-based choices.

I received an ARC of The Bloated Belly Whisperer and was very excited to get started. It took me a bit longer to get through the whole book due to some problems with my vision. This book is full of information, yet it's easy to read and understand, not like a lot of other medical books I've encountered. I especially loved the quiz at the beginning of the book, which lets you know which chapters might be the most helpful for you.
