Ms. Cooke builds a world where it seems completely natural for humans to shift into dragons, for toddlers to communicate prophecies in dreams, and for Firestorms to play matchmaker, and I love it! Beautifully written prose, deep emotions and great characters populate this series. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Seeing Niall shift from a breathtaking male into a fierce dragon is not what makes Rox want to retreat but rather talk of destined mates and a baby. Neither will deny the fire burning between them but can they both leave the past behind them and move into the future together? Niall is very hardworking. It doesn't matter if it involves the Pyr or his eco-tourism company, he can be counted on. This is a good thing but at the same time it makes his character come off as a bit uptight and boring. He also starts out judging Rox just on her appearance and that made him seem snobby. But as the story continues more is revealed about his character such as family problems that make him more likable. The fact that he is gorgeous and will do anything to protect his mate also adds to the attraction. Rox speaks her mind and likes to help those who need and want it which makes you admire her. She doesn't just hand out help but makes you earn it. She also uses loud clothing, heavy makeup, and unusual hairstyles as a shield to fend of those who try and get too close. Along with her clothing, she uses not wanting to get serious with anyone as an excuse to keep Niall at arms length. But the firestorm (sign that a Pry has met his destined mate and ends once the female is pregnant with a son) will have none of that. It doesn't make them fall instantly in love, but presents an opportunity for them to become closer and to begin to take down their defenses. In the end you really do believe that opposites attract. The newest and one of my favorite Pyr is Thorolf or T who we first met in Winter Kiss. He is a 800 year old dragon who doesn't know about his kinds history or how to use his powers. He likes to spend his time drinking and picking up women. He first lives with Rox but moves out to live with Niall so that he may teach him. All the Pyr are more refined in their ways and know what it is to be a dragon. Thorolf on the other had wants to learn but has little drive to start out with. I think this makes him more normal and more relatable than the others. He also helps bridge a gap between Rox and Niall and starts to become a more worthy Pyr. I would definitely enjoy reading about his firestorm and the woman who would help straighten him out. Whisper Kiss continues the story of the battle of Pyr versus Slayers and the shadow dragons. A new enemy has emerged and has taken command of the shadow dragons. Some of it was predictable but it is entertaining and attention grabbing none the less. It will have you at the edge of your seat one minute and falling for these lovable characters the next. Deborah Cooke does another wonderful job at bring the reader into a world of dragons, danger and all consuming desire. ~Stephanie G

Naill would like to just ignore the firestorm and hope it comes for him again but Thorolf won't let him and neither will Rox who is completely smitten. Naill had me completely under his spell since book one but proves he is an alpha that has no problem with a smart woman helping him when necessary (hmmmm so sexy) Rox is completely comfortable holding her ground the the pyr and used everything at her disposal to help the pyr any way she could. Their interaction was stronger and more thoughtful and much more balanced than some of the other pairings. As a couple they seemed to be yin and yang personified and had great chemistry together. Chen, the new villain of the piece more than adequately filled the vacancy left by Magnus, as he was even more nefarious in his control of the shadow pyr. As the other pyr prepare to arrive to assist in making the firestorm a success there seems to be something more sinister in everything shadow pyre. Phelan also makes another appearance heralding more changes to the team structures. Each of the threads seemed to be more emotional. Both the action and romance threads not only felt more passionate, they seemed to be more strongly written this time out. Also as usual the ending was a little sweet but I'll definitely be present for the next firestorm

In my view, this has been the best in series so far. Niall and Rox are both such nice characters with the additional charm of Thorolf thrown into the firestorm. Nonstop action kept me on the edge of my seat. Really a fun read.

Better & Better Each time I start a new Dragonfire Series book I wonder if it can match the one I just finished. Amazingly each new one excels in its own way, not diminishing the excellence of those that came before, but continuing to provide the best of reading experiences. Niall and Rox, a look under the surface shows that some times opposites do match. For Niall his firestorm seems to come at the worst possible time. For Rox she is surrounded by her dreams come true, Real Dragons Read as dreams and a slightly uptight Pyr clash head on, throw in a new Slayer ,a vengeful dead brother, to stir the Firestorm Quick action love and healing old wounds tell their story.

I love dragons, and shifters. This book happens to have dragon shifters so it is perfect for me. I also love that it has plot and a great story, and isn't full of to much sex. Sometimes that ruins the story. Anyway, great story of overcoming past issues and learning to trust. Magic, dragons, slayers and just a great story! I picked this up at a thrift store. I have yet to read a book in this series I didn't like and this is no exception. Whisper Kiss is Niall, the eco-tourism guide/dragon shifter and Rox's, the tattoo artist with a huge heart, story. Niall is a little conservative and old fashioned, dresses "outdoor GQ" and cares about the environment. Rox is a petite tattoo artist who dresses punk, colors her hair, has a few tattoo's and is into the organic foods lifestyle. At their first meeting he makes the mistake of judging a book by its cover, even though its obvious that Rox is his Firestorm. Rox has been living with a dragon shifter - Torolf - for 3 years. She met him in a local bar when he got into a fight and showed his true nature. Rox, always having had a love of dragons, help him to escape the bar and has looked after him ever since. You see Torolf thought he was the only one of his kind. Until recently. Enter Niall. Previously to this story, Torolf has been located by our guys and at the beginning of this story he's moving out to train and be mentored by Niall. When Tor tells Rox he's "moving on" and gives her Niall's card for contact purposes, Rox is both happy for Tor and saddened. But she's also wary. So Rox goes to check out this Niall and see if what Tor told her is true. Niall and Rox's first meeting couldn't have gone more wrong. Not only does she literally break into his building trying to get information, but Niall catches her. He's immediately aware that Rox is his firestorm but is less than impressed with what he's presented with. He always thought he'd meet a refined, ladylike woman who would be his to protect and love, certainly not this punk rocker female with the green hair and tattoos who is not only fierce but a little crazy when it comes to defending her friend Tor. Add in that Niall really doesn't have time for his long awaited Firestorm (he's on a personal quest) and then an earthquake that completely destroys his building. To say they get off on the wrong foot is an understatement. I really enjoyed this story. Rox I loved. She's a great example of someone who is not what appearances would lead you to believe she is. Her punk rocker look, colored hair and tattoo's are her "armor" against the world. She's been through alot in her short life. She's using her armor to keep the world out until she's ready to let it or someone in. She's not a hard ass, not at all. She is in fact very vulnerable and thoughtful. She cares about her friends fiercely and she has an incredible heart for the underdog. The first time Niall sees her without her armor, he wasn't even sure it was her. That's a little disconcerting for him and makes him take a step back and re-assess. The Firestorm is not letting him get away with ignoring her, and in reality, he doesn't want to, not really. He has a huge sense of honor and commitment. He's old fashioned. He wants to protect Rox even if he's not ready to experience his Firestorm just yet. Rox doesn't want protecting, at least not in the way Niall wants to. Watching these two work through their misconceptions to come together is great. We also get to revisit with the rest of our beloved Dragons: Erik, Sloane, Rafferty, Donovan, Quinn and Delaney and their wives and children. New character Torolf, or Tor, who is Rox's friend and Niall's new student is also one to watch. He reminds me of a big, slightly goofy musclehead with a heart of gold. Once he gets with the program he will be a force in his own right. There's also an exciting preview of the next story and I'm so stoked. Rafferty, who has literally PINED for his own Firestorm is the hero of the next installment! A+

This was the first novel that I have read by Deborah Cooke. What I really liked about this novel was the ease in which I was introduced to past characters and learned some of the back story of the series. Whisper Kiss is the fifth book in the Dragonfire series and I was a bit concerned that I would not know what was going on. But I was pleasantly surprised that I was not lost at all. Rox was a tough chick with a soft heart and part owner of a tattoo shop. With her punk rocker clothes and tattooed skinned, I kept picturing Kat Von D from the show, LA Ink. Niall was a serious straight laced character who runs an eco-tourism business. In his dragon state he mesmerized Rox with his amethyst and platinum scales. Rox had lived with a dragon shifter named Thorolf for three years so when she witnessed Niall’s shift to protect her, she was not surprised. What was surprising to Niall was that she was the catalyst to his firestorm. The firestorm is the mark of a Pyr (dragon shifter) finding his mate. To satisfy the firestorm, the Pyr must consummate the relationship with his mate and the result is the conception of a male dragon shifter. Prior to hearing this Rox was ready to jump Niall’s bones as the firestorm has her hot and ready for his touch. The thought of conceiving a child puts a damper on her lust though as she doesn’t feel ready to commit to such a permanent bond. When Niall finally decides to give in to the firestorm he waits patiently for Rox to give in to the firestorm as well. But Niall’s firestorm comes at a very inopportune time as the shadow dragons are starting to make their move against Niall and the rest of Pyr and it seems that Niall is the main target. Not only are all the shadow dragons trying to kill the Pyr but Niall’s twin brother Phelan is determined to steal Rox for himself. I loved the loyalty of the Pyr towards one another and to their mates. There were vivid fight scenes that I could picture clearly. The shadow dragons were ripped limb to limb with the body parts incinerated by dragon fire. The Pyr all worked together in defense of the earth and the humans. They all fought so viciously to protect their families sometimes carrying their mates and children with them while flying in the air fighting off shadow dragons. The pacing of the story was great. I really enjoyed Rox’s and Niall’s love story. The sexual tension between the two caused by the firestorm kept me captivated throughout the novel. The integration of past characters from the other books in the series and the back story was seamless. Deborah Cooke has a new fan as I now feel compelled to read the other books in this series. Whisper Kiss is highly recommended for any paranormal romance junkie who is a fan of sexy dragon shifters and gets 4.5 stars.

And what Rox wants, Rox eventually gets... But complications arise when the conflict between the shadow dragons (evil dragons who have gone rogue) attack. And among them is Niall's twin brother Phelan who wants Rox, too. Whisper Kiss is a satisfying paranormal romance. Fans and new readers will be sure to enjoy this latest installment in the Dragonfire series. Rox easily accepts and is able to stand up to Niall and I felt they were a very strong match. I enjoyed and was entertained by their constant interplay especially Rox who is no one's fool. I admired her bravery as she fearlessly goes for what she wants. Niall feels the pull of the Firestorm (The attraction between a dragon and his destined mate.) to Rox but his brother's interest in Rox makes it difficult. He shares a deep past with his brother, whom he still loves. Niall is torn. How can he save Rox and not kill the brother that he used to know? This emotional conflict in addition to the evil shadow dragon Chen who has powers unlike the rest of the dragons makes for a thrilling and absorbing read. I could give you a couple lame heroines, but I don't want to sully these books by it. Rox is a woman that doesn't pull punches, and she sure ain't afraid to kick Niall into shape. Her being a tattoo artist makes her that much more of a rock-star in my eyes. Niall is a tough cookie to break, a little too set in his ways. But I loved how he was willing to change for his girl. That willingness made him all that much more strong. This book introduces a new villain. This gives the series a new element that takes the reader out of their comfort zone. Suddenly you have no idea what this new character is up to, or how far he's capable to go. A couple mistakes in this book. Like using encouragement instead of entertainment at one point. And I wasn't sure if the singing part of the book was creepy or cute. Seriously, I still can't decide how I feel about all these huge dragons singing... I also love that the books are becoming more and more sexy with each new book. The first book was innocent compared to this one. Still this book is nowhere near some of the smut you find in romance books. Without being too graphic, Ms Cooke kicks up the heat-level and writes one hell of a sexy scene. Better yet, it fits the book. What I love about these books is that they both make me hold my breath and cry. No doubt I'm always rooting for these guys. I only have two books left to read, and am kinda dreading having to let go of these characters. I know there is planned one more book in this series, though I do hope there'll be more books.

This is the fifth book in the Dragonfire series and this time the firestorm is between Niall and Rox. Niall has way too many things on his plate right now that he doesn't have time for his firestorm. Especially with someone like Rox, a tattoo artist dressed goth-like. She wants no part of it but the firestorm is making it impossible for her to ignore Niall. On the other hand, as Niall learns more about who Rox really is, the more he finds himself drawn to her. Once again we have Niall sitting on the sidelines waiting for Rox to make up her mind. It would be nice to see the guy actually chase after the girl. I get it's out of respect but it would still be nice. Rox is likeable and like the other heroines, smart and strong-willed. The chemistry between the two is definitely there. Even without any sex taking place you can feel the heat between the two. What I really love and respect about the series is that in each book Cooke never leaves out any of the other characters. She not only includes each Pyr but also their mates and their children. They are always present no matter how big or small his/her roll may be. She's done it in such a way that the story just flows smoothly, not feeling muddled like they don't belong or it was a waste of time to include them. A big kudos to Cooke for a terrific series which just seems to be getting better and better. I can't wait to read her next book but alas, it looks like I have to wait until May 2011. Too bad. It looks like Rafferty is finally going to get his well-deserved firestorm. Whoo-hoo!

I really enjoyed this 5th book in the series! Pyr dragonshifter Niall Talbot has taken on 2 dangerous tasks: to try and rid the world of the Shadow Dragons, created by the Slayer Magnus from deceased Pyr to do his evil bidding; and to help train up Thorolf, a recently discovered Pyr who is 8 centuries old with no knowledge of his abilities, and no discipline whatsoever! Small opening plot spoilers: On his way home one evening, he discovers what seems to be a thief trying to get into his apartment, and when he confronts her, he discovers that this tattoo covered spitfire of a woman ignites the firestorm, which means that she is his destined mate - which couldn't have come at a worse time. Rox went to find out if this Niall Talbot, who is supposedly apprenticing her gullible friend "T" (now going by Thorolf) is a real person or not. She's worried that he has actually hooked up with a woman, or something. When she discovers that he was actually telling her the truth, and when an earthquake rocks the building they are in, she also discovers that he is also a dragonshifter like T! She's also a lot more attracted to this man than Thorolf, who she was only trying to help straighten out. In order for anything to work out between these 2, both must learn to see beyond what's on the surface, as well as find a way to reconcile their own personal issues with their pasts. There's also an unknown Slayer that makes himself known.. and he creates some interesting twists in the storyline! I love how the Pyr from previous stories come together in each book as well! This is a very fun series! I highly recommend it!

I really enjoy this series and I liked this one very well better than some of the others. The plot made sense. There was thinking and growing on the part of both the main characters. I don't really like the baby who is self aware and is an old soul but I just suffer through that part. The character of Thorolf is an entertaining and engaging one. It was nice to see him grow so that by the time he has his firestorm we'll really be rooting for him. Rafferty was in the book quite a bit too and it looks like the next one is his story. Finally, I'm happy to see it. One of the things that didn't work so well for me is that the trauma in her past didn't ring quite true. There was this big deal about her having learned not to trust people and that loving someone hurt too much when you lost them. I think that when you eventually find out what's up with that, the reality doesn't really match the set up. I don't want to say more so that I don't spoil it for people who haven't read it but I think that different happenings in the past would have led in a stronger way to her current emotional situation. All in all another good story in a very enjoyable series.

A danger that could destroy both herself and Niall and the rest of the Pyr...Whisper Kiss is the fifth installment in the series, and I just keep falling in love with each and every one of these books that I have been able to read. I thought that Whisper Kiss has a level of its own uniqueness, I really enjoyed seeing the interaction between Niall and Rox. Rox I fell in love with immediately, (even though I am not the biggest fan of tattoo's) I really loved her attitude and how she sets Niall straight on some things. She has got fire and spirit and is a very endearing character. Niall is just sexy, plain and simple. One can't help but fall in love with a man who is so willing to fight for those he loves. Overall a fun and irresistable read that will romance you from beginning to end.

Deborah Cooke has created a unique and intriguing world of dragons (called the PYR) who live alongside humans in present time. Her writing has grown more assured from her first book to this latest release. Mixed in with this are the machinations of the evil dragons (Slayers and Shadow Dragons) who try to prevent the firestorm and destroy the Pyr and humankind. The bad guys are not one dimensional and many times I have felt a lot of sympathy for their situation. This was not my favourite book in the series because there was not much conflict between the H/h and I really do enjoy a lot of angst before my HEA's! My two favourite books so far have been Kiss of Fate and Winter Kiss. I'm really looking forward to the next in the series as Rafferty has been a great secondary character and has been waiting for his own firestorm for a long time. This is an excellent series for paranormal romance lovers.

I really love dragons, so I adore all of these books. And I"m a sucker for a love story. these love stories are a little corny, but that's okay.. if you have read up to this book, you will have grasped the main idea.. And there is a plot to the whole series... which is very interesting. Not really into the whole eco/green theme though. I enjoy the books, but that doesn't make me want to run out and recycle a can. Over all though, very enjoyable read.. I will continue with the series, I'm quite excited to see what happens next.

I love this series, I know I've said it before, but I can't help it it is so awesome!! This is book #5, usually with a series with so many books it starts to get old or it's the same story all the time, but now so with this one. Each character is unique and distinct from the guys to their mates and even the kids...I loved when litte Garrett was mimicking his dad and breathing mock fire, so cute...also the stories in how they find their mates and the obstacles they have to overcome and the lesson I love this series, I know I've said it before, but I can't help it it is so awesome!! I wonder how this new bad guy and all the things he can do will play into the next books, and also what about the thing with Lorenzo and what he did to Erik, I can't wait to read Rafferty's story should be awesome.

This is definitely a great series - I love the Pyr (dragon shifters determined to protect earth's treasures which include humans rather than from humans as seems to be the case so often. Niall soon realizes there is much more to her than appears on the surface and their firestorm is hot. While the mystery of the odd behavior of the shadow dragons is being unraveled, Niall has to deal with his twin brother (turned Slayer, turned Shadow Dragon, turned ?) and both MCs have to decide if they are ready for commitment and parenthood (firestorms guarantee pregnancy the first time every time) and the familiar characters from previous books come back to help. I enjoy these dragons and their mates!

Shadow dragons are zombies, evilly resurrected corpses who pursue those who loved them in life. Niall must protect and woo Rox while slaying shadow-dragons, including his own brother, unusually intelligent and animated by bone powder. Granted, firestorm consummation includes making an heir, but Rox causes way too much trouble for all the dragons and the whole city by fighting Niall, for me to really like her. I will still interlibrary loan more Dragonfire books because the dragon romance intrigues me.

I finally finished it. I had to take a long break after the hero allowed his mate to plummet towards the ground while he had a discussion and a walk down memory lane with his evil twin. The heroes frequently have bouts of pure stupidity. And characters can be in two places at once or looking in 2 directions at once. There are alot of errors like that. Also the heroes don't seem to make sure the villains are dead. They had to re-kill one guy 3 or 4 extra times. It is very frustrating because this series could be great with decent editing and proofreading.

I absolutely loved Niall Talbot! He currently has a whole lot on his plate - he's determined to destroy the shadow dragons, he's running a touring agency, he's mentoring another dragon, and his firestorm has started. Niall so doesn't have time to deal with a reluctant mate but Rox Kincaid refuses to be denied even though she doesn't want to be a mate either. I loved this book! I've been reading the series (read the first 4 or so in about 2 days) Niall was a bit arrogant at first, and assuming, but Rox changed him, which was good, I liked him after they got together. Even though it was a little while before they did, becuase Rox had to make some choices, and she did, and it led to them being together. But I loved this book, and this series, so if you haven't read it, or the new YA series based on these series kids yet, you better go out and read them! I loved this book!
