She’s been training both with her official mentor figures and with her father’s friends. This hasn’t left her much time for anything else. Even though her official mentor is Olivia, she’s too busy running the casino to train her. So, Olivia’s aunt Ann, who trains witches for a living, has taken over the training. Ann’s daughter Vanessa is training with Ella and they’ve become close friends. But currently, they’re helping at the Paranormal Cheese Convention. Vanessa thinks that she can invent a spell that will stuff the goodie bags quicker but has only managed to make the process a lot slower – and then cause an explosion. Vanessa’s mom and brother Vin aren’t impressed and somehow Ella is the one to blame. However, a man has passed away, supposedly from natural causes and Vin takes Ella to confirm that. Ella does that with her magical powers but during her vision she finds out that another man has been murdered. The former president of the Paranormal Cheese Council has been flattened to death by the world’s largest wedge of cheese (it’s the size of a queen bed). It seems that the man was hated by many people so there’s no shortage of suspects. However, the cheese wedge is owned by Vanessa and Vin’s great-great-grand-mother Granner who’s not happy about her business being interrupted. Vanessa is eager to investigate and drags Ella to the investigation, too. This was a funny cozy mystery with a lot of things going on. Ella still has a lot to learn about the magical world and about her own powers. Also, the local magical law-enforcement seems to be more than a little threatening and too interested in Ella. Her father was murdered and she don’t know who did it and why, so she tries to avoid any undue attention. Also, she’s strongly attracted to Vin who has now broken up with his former girlfriend. But Vin’s dour nature doesn’t invite Ella to tell him about her emotions. Vanessa is Ella’s faithful friend and co-investigator. Even though she has trained far longer in magic, her spells makes things explode rather than do what they’re supposed to. Patagonia is Ella’s familiar. She’s a huge black cat who seems to enjoy making Ella trip and stumble. All the mages have cats as familiars. Granner is a funny new character. She’s around 180 years old and doesn’t allow anyone to get in the way of what she wants. She’s a shrewd businesswoman who has been running her own cheese business for a long time. I enjoyed the zany cheeses and the mage community. Unfortunately, I don’t really care for Vin and so I don’t really care for the romance, either. Otherwise, I enjoyed this fast-paced short book.

So despite being 28, she is at a stage when she is still going through teenage angst, crushes and not fitting in with her peers. She is still naive to much of the protocol that most young witches are brought up with! As a result, she is flying by the seat of her pants, with very little guidance and ends up making a life-changing decision about the course of her life - to become a Monza (basically a celibate Witch) - to protect herself from scrutiny. She instantly regrets that decision, as she is in love with Vin, but I guess we will have to see how that plays out in future books! The story is fast-paced and funny , and full of endearing characters. The magical cheeses are hilarious and the familiars have endearing personalities.

So much cheesy, and yet the writing isn't cheesy. Ella is still in training with Olivia (alongside Vanessa), and there's a dead body under Granner's (Vin's great-grandmother) 'world's largest wedge of cheese,' so she's working, too. Turns out the dead body is that of the former head of the Paranormal Cheese Council, so the marshall shows up to investigate. This means a lot more than she thinks, but it gets the marshall off her back in a heartbeat...but it means she's opting to remain single to focus on her magic. Vin is less than thrilled, and Olivia and the gang aren't happy she didn't tell them. Ella has a lot to learn and little time to do it.

Cute cozy mystery. Quick read, but enough story, craziness, and magic for you to enjoy. I feel this book should be read as part of the series (Casino Witch Mysteries) because of the introductions and developments of the characters and progression of the storyline over the first 2 books. Because she grew up thinking she was a regular human she is having trouble absorbing the training she needs to master to become a mage. While attending a supernatural cheese fest (who knew) Ella finds the former president of the Paranormal Cheese Council under a giant block of cheese and thus begins our adventure in all its cheesy goodness. How can one not be intrigued by a story of paranormal cheese, with murder. For Ella, she maybe a witch, but this case, was anything but easy. She wanted a closer and move on to Europe, and then on to other countries and money. Delightful, funny as you laugh at some of the dialog, like Ella thinking that “Vanessa using more magic than necessary”. This was a good plot, the laughs were many, and you will love Ella. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Another great cozy casino murder mystery as the casino ramps up for an magical cheese exhibition and a murder occurs. There’s the usual imaginative magical spells, ingredients, humor, and mayhem as magical trainees stumble through their investigation, and several major unexpected twists in plot. Wait till you meet the creepy marshall, his side kick, and Great Granny Granner! A thoroughly enjoyable, laugh-filled read I would recommend to anyone.

A fun fanciful story about magical cheese and murder. Plenty of quirky characters and plot twists and turns made this a quick read. How could any book with a pinch of romance, a dash of humor, a bit of mystery, and a dollop of witchcraft be bad? There’s been a murder at the Cheese Convention and Ella, Vanessa, and Vin have to try and find the killer before he/she strikes again. I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Funny, fiesty and beautiful Ella continues her journey as a witch-in-training. Still trying to stay under the radar, she attempts to help solve a murder at the Paranormal Cheese Convention. Botched spells, a "klutzy sidekick" and a public declaration that changes everything makes this read both surprising and funny. This series is well worth a read. Starting out as a campy farce, our story gets serious as heroine Ella Marie attempts to unravel a magical murder mystery while discovering her own talents and place in the world of spells, potions and runes. The continuity of some of the characters is enhanced by having read book 1, this story can stand alone. Ella and sidekick Vanessa seem to seriously channel both Lucy and Ethel as well as Thelma and Louise. Told with a light touch and a great deal of humor!

Cute Unknown magic abounds, which is conveniently explained afterwards because our heroine is not familiar with it yet, despite her own abilities.
