Beautiful and touching story. You'd think coming together after 3 years would be a happy reunion. But people change and doubts and internal struggles might make it a little bit harder. I never gave it much thought about how soldiers from the war come back after a time to their families. Never realized how hard that can be... Strong story with strong characters! In this post-Napoleonic war romance, I found myself being drawn into the sadness that surrounded Meagan - firstly when her husband went to war; then when he was proclaimed dead; and thirdly when he unexpectedly returned a broken man. In this modern era, we have been made aware of the devastating effects of war, PTSD, rehabilitation of soldiers and the bombardment of horror over international news almost on a daily basis. However, when we read the history books, the horrific impact of war on the men and their families of the Regency era is glossed over and apart from memorising dates, it has little impact on us 200 years later. On the other hand, Edward is suffering not only from PTSD but also from a very deep depression. He rues the mistakes he made, little realising that whilst he has changed and is another man altogether, his precious wife is too as she has been left with the aftermath of having to deal with his supposed death. In many ways, this was a tragic story, one that jerked at the heartstrings, but the triumphant message is that love conquers all. The story is well-written and fairly short. It can be read in an evening. As with all the other books by this author, this book is clean and can be read by any age group. It is part of a series and as such characters from previous books also appear in this one and it does end on a very positive and happy note. I received a copy of this book for free and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Sacrificed & Reclaimed is a bonus novella and serves as the eighth book in Bree Wolf's Love's Second Chance series. It focuses on Megan, who we met in the seventh book in the series, and her husband, Edward. After being wounded on the battlefield and left behind, he was pronounced dead. Megan has been struggling to carry on through her grief and raise their two children, Matthew and Erin. Edward was brought to a convent to heal and, although his leg will never work the same again, he is healed. Megan has been struggling to carry on through her grief and raise their two children, Matthew and Erin. Edward was brought to a convent to heal and, although his leg will never work the same again, he is healed. He has been filled with guilt all this time over leaving a happy and fulflling life with his wife and children to go chasing after uncertain glory in battle. He has been willing himself to take his own life, convinced that he doesn't deserve to live after throwing his happy life away. One thought stops him though, are Megan and the children safe? He must know and so he manages to travel back from the continent and all the way to the little cottage they lived in as a family. But he doesn't find things the way he had always imagined when he pictured their life without him. What follows is a brief but endearing look that brings two people deeply in love back together and the emotional obstacles they have to work past to do it. Time changes people and so does time, so they have to be willing to share their pain and their doubts if they have any hope of being together as a family again. Sacrificed & Reclaimed is a very sweet and endearing story. I was happy to see that things would work out for Megan, that although she is proud and independent she wouldn't have to be alone. This book could serve as a stand alone. But I would recommend that, even if you don't read the entirety of the Love's Second Chance series, you at leat read the seventh in the series first so that you can meet Megan and get a better idea of what her life has been like since Edward was reported dead. This is a regency romance and a clean romance. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Bree Wolf or is looking for a quick read and may like to stumble upon a new series at the same time.

Bree Wolf has done it again! Another wonderful addition to the Love's Second Chance Series. So much tension and action in this book. Will Edward stay and be a husband and father to his wife and children? I was so frustrated with Meagan and Edward, especially Edward, that I wanted to bash their heads together and tell them, Edward, to wake up. However, this all makes for good reading and keeps your attention throughout the book. I was not disappointed in this book and eagerly await more stories from Bree Wolf. If you enjoy clean, Christian, historical romance, then you will absolutely love this book. Pick up a copy for yourself and find out. Enjoy! For a novella of this brevity it has all the information to understand the situation Edward and Meagan find themselves in. I was drawn in by the descriptive text which creates a quiet tone. Upon finding his beloved wife and old friend, he is met with understanding and amazing patience. They leave it to Edward to decide whether to stay or say goodbye forever. Nicely told. How can a crippled soldier, who willingly left his family to purse his dreams of glory at war, find his place in his family again? Edward had selfishly left Meagan and their 2 children to go fight on the continent without concern about the family he was leaving behind. Meagan had let him go, realizing that to hold him back she would certainly lose him. Reluctant to make known the fact he had survived, although broken in body, Edward finally made his way home, only to find his family had moved to his friend’s estate. He mistakenly thought his friend Derek had married Megan, and in his anger he found the strength to search them out. When finally arriving, Edward discovers that Derek and Meagan had not married. Megan and the children had their own home, which had been destroyed, and were eagerly anticipating moving back into a new one at the same site. How does this couple overcome Edward’s guilt at leaving, guilt at staying away and guilt of not being the man he once was due to his injury? Guilt and self pity weigh Edward down. It is only by his wife’s insight into Edward and her love for him, that Edward can be healed. This book speaks to a deeper truth: that anyone can fail to appreciate what they have and go off searching for an illusion, leaving the true treasure behind. How can the one left endure, recover and be willing to aid the returning one when the illusion dissolves? We see the elements required in Meagan: enduring love for Edward, love for her family, an acceptance of another’s failings, and being able and willing to forgive when Edward returns home. Further, an ability to see into Edward, past his outward display of confusing emotions, to see the truth in his heart and the conflicts therein, making his outward behavior corresponding to his inward confusion. Such understanding can help Meagan express her love for Derek, her confidence in his ability to care for his family, which eventually helps him to see value in himself and be willing to take the necessary steps toward his family, to begin family life again.

This is one of my favorites by far written by this author. It gets deep to the heart of how war damages a person. In this case the husband goes off to war seeking an adventure. Instead he is left for dead and for several years his family thinks he dead. He is ashamed to go home since he is physically and mentally damaged by guilt. He feels he is not worthy of his family, when he does make his way home, his wife has to figure out how to make see there is forgiveness and love. Endearing story of second chance love. Well written storyline, digging into the depression many soldiers felt on their return from the war, and the struggles of their families left behind. Edward was a broken man when he finally returned to England, feeling that Meagan could do better without him. Meagan of course is determined to fight for him to stay. I was impressed with the ‘choice’ she gave Edward and was really pleased with the final chapters. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Read Endearing story of second chance love. Thanks for this. Meagan is an incredibly brave woman. She managed to forgive her husband, or really, she succeeded in getting him to stay with her, with them, she got him to not be a coward and selfish - again, quite an achievement. Wasn't soo fond of the hero. He was depressed, yes, he felt forlorn and he knew he had been selfish and yet, he returned only to show us how selfish and stubborn he really is. This is only a novella. Loved to see the characters from Derek and Maddie's book again. Thanks for this. Meagan is an incredibly brave woman. Marriage Reclaimed Edward went off to war to find freedom and adventure, leaving behind a wife and 2 children. Reported dead, he returns home not intending to stay. His selfish behavior for adventure has not changed when he determines to just see them and not reclaim his life. Interesting premise for a romance but with flaws. Megan, his wife, has overcome so much to care for her children but come across as weak. And anger? Where is it for her selfish husband? Just did not seem like a realistic si Marriage Reclaimed Edward went off to war to find freedom and adventure, leaving behind a wife and 2 children. The Hero annoyed me I got so annoyed at the stupid hero! He was so negative and depressing. The heroine deserved better I kept thinking. And yet at th end I did see the man she fell in love with and I was very happy. He had gone through so much and he ended being healed mentally by the love of his family!! I did like the epilogue too. I never understood why he didn't write her when he woke up in the convent. She forgave him way too easily. Especially when he was just going to leave her again. I would like to thank the author for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Edward was left for dead in the battlefield and never believed he would be good enough to go back to his wife and children. Meagan is starting to come to terms with the death of her husband, what will she do when he suddenly turns up? A cute surprise novella, I loved that it told the harder story of what happens to men who survive war.

He sacrificed and she sacrificed, but not anymore. Edward Dunning thought he was making sacrifices for his family, he should have thought it thru. However it was his wife, Meagan, who actually made the sacrifices, but now this feisty widow had gone this far and would go no further. At times I found myself wanting to yell and scream ,and at points I did. As you read this book you'll experience feelings of frustration and hope. Enjoy! I am so glad I obtained an ARC to review this book, as it is gold. Not only was the writing beautiful and the characters very real, but it had a big impact on my own life. The two main characters are faced with difficult challenges and learn to fight for their future! It was real, genuine, heart-warming and uplifting. I felt more determined to face my own challenges afterwards. :D Thank you, Bree Wolf!! :))

I was happy to see that Meagan was able to get her happy ending. In a time before people understood PTSD, there wasn’t much hope for the surviving victims of war. In this short novella you get to see the softening of a man’s heart and the realization that there is so much to live for. A sweet clean romance. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book. This review is voluntary and my honest opinion.

I enjoyed this story, but I did feel that it was a bit too short and that things happened too quickly. If you compare the story in this book with the story in book three in both books a soldier comes home, but in this book he came back to himself within one night. This felt a bit rushed and not really realistic. So I would have preferred if this book was a bit longer and had a bit more depth. Overall it was a nice continuation, but it would have been better if it was a bit longer in my opinion

A beautiful story of reclaiming the loss of your soul, love and all that makes life worth living. War ravages not only the soldier but his/her spouse and children. Everyone has to make adjustments and the stronger the love you share, the more able your relationship is to survive. This story is beautifully written to reflect that bond of love resulting in a happily ever after.
