However, after a few times he goes out with her, he realizes that he cannot fight with the attraction or his feelings for her and they start to date. Some paparazzi problems and some shocking revelations related to their past shake their sweet romance a bit but it can only cause an 8-day of separation. Soon, they go back to being sickly sweet. So, as you can see, this is a love story as smooth as it goes. It is one of those sweet love stories with little angst. As they are both attracted to each other, they start dating, then comes kissing and having sexy times. I don't like it that easy or that simple. There is no banter, no push-pull, no sexual tension built or whatsoever. He wants it, she wants it and they have it. Just sweetness. The result? It bored the hell out of me! I like some banter, some hot chemistry, some sexual tension built, and I like it when he has to work for it etc. This was a smooth, easy-peasy sweet love story that couldn’t hold my attention. I sometimes like it cute & sweet but this wasn’t the "cute & sweet" that I would love to read; this was "sweet but uninteresting" for me. My type of "cute & sweet" would be “The Hating Game”. This book is just too simple & too dull for my taste. I like my sweet love stories to contain real good humor and cuteness; I want them to come with unique characters that are really special, not ordinary or mediocre. This book didn't do the trick, sorry :( Writing & safety: It is written in dual point of view and it is a short book of appr. 200 pages. Sadly, it didn't make me feel - I was so uninterested in their sweet world of romance. It is safe with no cheating or no OM/OW drama.

Carson Lawrence is the rookie on the Blue Birds baseball team and when he meets Melody, he is instantly attracted to her, so a romance blooms from there. Unfortunately for Melody he has "no dating “policy during baseball season so they decide to be friends, but Carson can't stay away. When something from Carson’s past comes up, Melody must decide if her love for Carson is enough or if she's better off without him. Okay so I really enjoyed this novel, it was such a fun and quick read. I loved reading about Melody's friendship with Lexi as well as Uncle Clay. I also really liked Ryan and Carson’s friendship as well as Carson’s relationship with his coach. This book was so funny and entertaining that once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. Unfortunately, this book suffered from the "not like other girls" trope. I found it unrealistic because I'm sure there are many girls out there that are able to eat in front of the person they are on a date with. "One quality I find more attractive than anything else in a woman is when she isn’t afraid to chow down in front of me. Eat some meat, sweetheart. Throw that damn salad out to the rabbits. I like when a girl is confident enough to not care what I think of how much she eats." It also suffered from repetition, I felt like there were many times where the characters said the same phrases over and over again and I felt like that could have been left out of the story. “I know about your dating rule” I feel like the author did not have to constantly remind us of the rule especially after it was mentioned one for two times. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a short contemporary sports romance. I can't wait to read the next books in this series.

Melody loves her baseball and attends all home game; little did she know that she was quite literally going to be part of action when she gets hit by a foul ball by the new rookie in the majors, Carson Lawrence. Carson can’t believe he’s hit a fan and can’t help but check on her in the hospital but what he doesn’t expect is for this beautiful young women to knock him off his feet. There is instant attraction and connection between them and all is seemingly going well until the past comes up and Melody loves her baseball and attends all home game; little did she know that she was quite literally going to be part of action when she gets hit by a foul ball by the new rookie in the majors, Carson Lawrence. Carson can’t believe he’s hit a fan and can’t help but check on her in the hospital but what he doesn’t expect is for this beautiful young women to knock him off his feet. There is instant attraction and connection between them and all is seemingly going well until the past comes up and bites them both. Will Melody be able to move past what she’s learnt or will it prove to be the end? “You have really pretty sparkly green eyes and a beautiful smile. And if you want me to be honest, I kind of dig the purple under your eyes.” This was an enjoyable sport romance read with an unexpected turn that took this from just a sweet romance to a “OMG did not see that coming” plot twist. The story also had great lead characters and support characters which I could really root and cheer for so this made for an overall great read! “You don’t date during baseball season, you can’t break your rule.” “I’ll just bend it a little, sweetheart.” I winked. I knew I shouldn’t push this and say just goodbye to her tonight, but I have a feeling that not seeing her again will not be an option.” I loved Melody- she was such a wonderful young woman. Despite suffering through a tragic loss she has still managed to be a happy and kind young woman who wants to help others and just embrace life. Carson was a bit cocky (major baseball player though so can you blame him?) but not enough for him to come across as obnoxious. He had worked hard to get where he now was and you could feel his attention for Melody coming off the page; I loved how much he wanted Melody and how he was willing to ignore his no dating rule because he just knew Melody would be worth it. “This isn’t casual, and I’m a fool to believe that I can keep it that way until October. She has gotten under my skin and I’m certain I’ll never get my fill. I need this girl.” I loved how this was a slow burner romance to start off with where we followed Melody and Carson through their meeting to them developing a relationship; this part was sweet, sexy, funny and just nice to read. Then out of nowhere we have this big plot twist that takes it from a sweet and funny romance to a more intense story and you are left wondering will they or won’t they which came at exactly the right spot in the story. I enjoy a romance but I always need something a little extra; a bit of drama or sadness or suspense and this story definitely delivered for me. A great first read from this author and I really hope Lexi gets a story! ~Bethany

Slow burn romance. Slow burn romance. This is my first book by this author. And I did like it. It’s a sweet and swooney romance (or to me it was). Plus who doesn’t love a guy in a baseball uniform. 😍😍 I can’t wait to read what this author has in store for Sammie.

Really enjoyed this sports-related (baseball) romance -- the main characters were perfect for each other. Fast moving and easy, fun-to-read storyline. Sweet and slow build-up with a touch of angst that was totally unexpected.

Ok, but tons of grammatical errors I liked the story okay, but it was inundated with grammatical errors. For example, the author didn’t know the difference between “through” and “threw.” Those types of errors really distract from the story for me.

This was so flipping cute I can't even deal. Like, if I really think about it I should be giving this book 3.5 stars but the cuteness is way too much and I have to give it 4 stars and I'm not even sorry. Here's the thing: I love NA books and I love baseball. This book gave me both of these things and it was almost a guaranteed slam dunk for me, er should I say home run. But the thing with this book is that it wasn't just unbelievably cute but I feel like it was a perfectly executed plot that there isn't much I can complain about. The characters were amazing and the romance was top notch and I even loved the drama and loved how it felt more like a legitimate plot twist rather than some unnecessary drama to throw at the couple before ending the book. It was a twist I never really expected but loved all the same. Honestly, the thing about this book is that it was a story that can be a fantasy of mine because I do love me some baseball players and wouldn't mind falling in love with any of them like this. Like I finished this book and was like "can this happen to me? Please?" Ugh, it was so good and had a slight air of being realistic which was great. I also want to point out that I loved how sweet Carson is and it's not something you typically see in NA, especially with a jock protagonist like him but he was so amazing and I fell in love with him so fast. And I also hella related to Melody because I, too, am an insane baseball fan but without the money for seasons tickets. My only problem is that at times the dialogue writing seemed a bit too straight forward and it was like giant monologues one after the other but it was something I could easily get over. However.....the baseball was slightly inaccurate and I was peeved. I can get wanting to dumb it down for people who don't get baseball (though I'm lowkey wondering if the author doesn't know baseball all that much either) but there are some things you need to get right. Like you don't keep playing in the bottom of extra innings once you go ahead and the team has a manager, not a coach. I'm being nitpicky but this is the only sport I care about so let me live. There was another thing but I can't remember what it was so it's fine. Other than that, and the serious lack of Sandlot references where it would've been perfect, this book was beyond perfect for me and was one of the cutest things I've ever read and I'm beyond happy.

I don't reread books I've read often but part of the reason I decided to read this again was because I wanted to read Ryan and Sam's book that just came out and I needed a refresher on the characters. But rereading this also made me realise maybe I don't want to read Ryan's book because we see him being a manwhore in this one and I'm not really a fan of that. I know for sure he's not going to hurt Sammie in the next book by cheating on her or something but I still don't like that I've read about him "in action" with other women in this book. I also don't like that Sam and Ryan have already interacted a few times but he is only now suddenly finding her attractive. Maybe I will wait awhile before reading their book. Hopefully by then I would have forgotten about those scenes in this book. Oh and I'm still mad that I can't find this author's other books anywhere. Someone help me please. Original review: My only regret with this book is that I read this at a time when I was swamped with school work and so after one day I finished reading this whole book and got no school work done. This book is definitely much much much more interesting than my school work. Ok but seriously I loved this book so much. It’s been awhile since I’ve given 5 stars to a contemporary book. What I loved about this book: -Great characters. I fell in love with both Melody and Carson. Having both their POVs was really great(I especially enjoyed Carson’s POV during those parts with the manatees. I actually laughed out loud during those parts and I was in public so thank you dear author for making me look like a crazy person). Melody was such a precious heroine and not at all annoying. When the photos of their first kiss got leaked, Carson was so sure Melody was going to get mad or back away but when we read Melody’s POV we found out that she was not mad at all and instead was worried about Carson. That was when I knew I was in love with this heroine. -Carson was not a manwhore. (Thank you for that because I’m so sick of the reformed playboy trope) -There was insta-attraction but no insta-love. When they finally exchanged those three words it was very believable. -Lex, Clay, Carson’s mom, Sammie, Ryan and even the coach were such wonderful side characters. -Just the right amount of angst. I hate books with too much angst but books with zero angst bore me as well and this book just had the right amount that was perfect for me. The main couple only got into 2 major “conflicts”(the second one was much more major) but both were resolved well and maturely and there were no hatred between the two throughout these “conflicts”. -No overly descriptive baseball/sports terminology. I come from a country where people don’t care about baseball at all so my knowledge of how baseball works is embarrassingly little and very close to non existent so I really appreciated that despite this being a sports contemporary, the “sports” aspects were easy to understand and nothing too complicated that even a sports noob like me wasn’t confused at all. What I didn’t like: -That I want to read this author’s other books but none of them are available in my local library or overdrive 😭 (ok I know this is a more personal problem but seriously, there wasn’t really anything major I didn’t like hehe) Ok that is all. I really really want to read other books by this author(especially Ryan and Sammie’s book) so I hope I can somehow get my hands on them! If you’re looking for a cute and sweet contemporary sports romance with a plot that is not too overly angsty or complicated, I highly recommend this one!! K bye. -theBookWolf

What a great introduction to a new to me author Trish Williford. I love to read sports romance novels, and I think Trish did a wonderful job in balancing out the sports side to the romance side. I love when sports books have on field action, and this one certainly had that. But I also enjoyed the locker room banter as well. I think that is when you really see another side to a character than just the romantic one. This story had an extremely unique take on the whole boy meets girl start to the book. It was kind of funny, but not at the same time. You could tell that there was something potentially there between Carson and Melody, even though Carson had strict rules he wanted to follow for his rookie season. These two just clicked, but boy I so did not see that twist in the end coming. It was heartbreaking and then it made me extremely angry. I really do hope that this a start to a new series. I would love to see a story for Ryan and especially Lexi - that girl is fantastic!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book

Every year since she was a child, Melody has loved to go see her favorite baseball team play. This year she get the surprise of her life when she is hit in the face on opening day. Little does she know it will change her life. I loved following Melody and Carson's story as they are brought together by their love of the game, but may be torn apart by a event from both of their pasts. Best romantic comedy I have ever read. Firstly, I’m not a huge fan of instalove. I am SUPER picky about it. I feel that it exists, but under the right conditions. This book was the PERFECT conditions. The comedy played as a back prop to the usual ironic humor life tends to (throw) at us. I almost expected that after such a stellar opening, the book might decline in plot flow. NOPE. It held its own flawlessly. This book feels strategized. Not just tossed together. This book was so good that even if it was clean romance, it would captivate me and be a deeply felt love story. The erotic intimacy only added to a perfect tale. Sprinkles on a Sunday. There was something beautiful about this story. I read it so fast. It became my happy place. I wanted life to pause so that I could read. There were a lot of laugh out loud moments. The lines were “snort laugh funny” don’t be drinking coffee while you read. I also love the relationships outside Melody and Carson. Carson’s relationship with his mother, Melody’s with her friend, Carson with his friend, etc. these were healthy, loving, nutty, honest relationships that made me love the main characters more! This made them real people to me. I can’t praise this book enough, it is a five-star delight that I imagine I will want to reread in the future. It just made me FEEL good. It is a feel good book and worth every penny. Honestly, I’m surprised it hasn’t been picked up as a movie.

This was a really fun and extremely cute book. It pacing isn’t usually my style but it was refreshing to read about two genuinely good and “normal” people - no bad boys or ice queens or anything - who happen to fall in love. There’s an argument that the romance wasn’t a slow burn but a bit of instalove-y but it really didn’t bother me. I absolutely adored the main characters. Carson especially was an absolute breath of fresh air. In general their dynamic was so sweet and even the big plot twist This was a really fun and extremely cute book. It was a nice change to see the separation be because of something other than a typical miscommunication/pull away situation.

Cute, sweet, and with some serious real estate porn. Still, the writing was a little sparse, there were a few editing/ autocorrect errors, and the big tell off scene with Mel wasn’t particularly emotionally satisfying (without spoiling anything, I felt like I needed to see arrogance in the present tense to feel happy with her yelling at this man. A few phone calls and off screen action do not a satisfying villain make).

Melody and Carson’s story is filled with twists and turns and I couldn’t put it down! This is the first story I have read by Trish Williford, but it won’t be the last!" ~Natalie This was the first story I have read by this author and it will not be the last. Loved it from the start and it never slowed down or lost my interest. I mean when the book starts off with the main character getting hit in the face with a baseball, you know its gonna be good.
