Anna was very fortunate to have happened upon Tonya... who eventually became her flatmate, BFF, and business partner.... Tonya was fabulous... and I absolutely adored the friendship that these girls developed... one of my favorite things to see in books is positive female relationships..... another person Anna was fortunate to run into was Freddie.... I totally pictured Freddy as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital(An American soap opera)... he is that lovable hot bad guy.... The plot had a few twists and turns I absolutely did not see coming... there were also a few unlikely coincidences, but hey it is fiction after all... The ending was perfection in my opinion... there is a part in the ending where I wanted to give Anna a standing ovation, you go girl! and I am so happy that there is a follow up, cannot wait for that! So thrilled to spend more time with Anna, Freddie, and Tonya (I really want her to get her HEA) Strongly recommend to everybody who enjoys a good book with fabulous characters.... *** thank U so much too Bookouture and Net Galley for a copy of this wonderful book ***

The ending does feel a bit rushed but it does not disappoint. I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Emma Tallon for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have to admit that this isn’t my usual genre of reading but this author might just have converted me. I had Emma Tallon’s Life Game on my TBR for ages and so when it got bought and renamed by Bookouture as Runaway Girl, I immediately moved it to the top. This was an exciting and exhilarating gangland thriller and it has left me very excited to read more from Emma in the future. I liked Emma’s writing style and felt that it had the right amount of grit and familiarity that we have come to expect from this genre however it is tame in comparison to Kimberley Chambers and Jessie Keane. I liked Emma’s writing style and felt that it had the right amount of grit and familiarity that we have come to expect from this genre however it is tame in comparison to Kimberley Chambers and Jessie Keane. That said the author did fall victim to one of the most cliched lines in fiction, that being ‘she let out the breath she didn’t know she had been holding’, and this happened more than once here. Ugh. Four books by different authors in a row have contained some version of this line and it’s so frustrating. Runaway Girl sees our main character Anna fleeing from a brutal and vicious criminal known as Tony who kept Anna prisoner and controlled every aspect of her life. It was easy to straight away root for Anna and want to see her escape the clutches of this vile individual. Emma portrays a realistic picture of an abusive relationship, albeit one that has been slightly heightened and exaggerated for story purposes, and the fear felt by Anna is palpable at times. This was kind of one of those stories where things fell into place too neatly for Anna, such as finding the perfect flat mate and having the right amount of money to set up a business but other than that I did really enjoy the story. This genre often has those villains that are vicious but at the same time have something about them that makes them likeable (and fanciable in the case of the one in this story) and here in Runaway Girl that’s Freddie who takes a liking to Anna and readers of this genre who have fell for villains in similar stories will certainly do so here with Freddie. I enjoyed his role in the proceedings, and the relationship that starts to form between the two. The storyline moves along at just the right pace and allowed for some small unseen twists to be revealed as the story drew to a conclusion. I felt that the overall ending felt a little bit rushed, but as the story of Anna and Freddie will be continued further, I can’t wait to see how their relationship is explored further and what repercussions there will be following the dramatic finale that Emma Tallon delivered here.

4 Stars Anna Davies has finally escaped from her gangster sociopath boyfriend. She meets Tanya, a stripper who offers her a place to stay. East End gangster Freddie Tyler has set his sights on Anna. With her ex boyfriend hot on her heels Anna needs to find out who can she really trust as both have secrets that could change everything. Runaway Girl by Emma Tallon, Wow, Wow, Wow Bloody WoW, I can’t believe how much this book blew me away, you couldn’t have torn the kindle from my fingers I was so engrossed. Ganglands, murder, drugs, strip clubs, money its all in there Emma managed to draw an intense criminal gangland thriller from the depths of her imagination and gave us the story of Anna, an ex-girlfriend of Tony a ruthless gangster, where she has managed to escape his clutches to start a fresh in East-End London. We follow her interactions with Freddie another gangster unbeknown to her, but although Freddie is violent and intense with enemies or people who cross him, family and friends are important to him and its obvious he will do anything for them. Anna moves in with a stranger Tanya whom she met on a garage forecourt when she left her boyfriends car, without her belongings and would have to walk home, Anna offered her a lift and their friendship blossomed from there, Tanya took Anna under her wing even though she knew she was hiding her past. As the days and months pass, Anna even though is still looking over her shoulder for Tony because she knows he will kill her if she is caught, but her directness with the help of Tanya they manage to open there own special dance club. Now the fun begins but is Anna still in danger, only time will tell……. I love the portrayal of Anna’s character very sweet, quiet intelligent individual who may have battered and bruised in her life but the bounce-back ability Anna shows is phenomenal, also Tanya is like a loveable rogue who may have been tangled in auspicious careers over her past but her motivation and strength tends to cover her past wrong doings and brighten up her life and prospects. Tanya and Anna make a great team. The men in Anna’s life are as different as chalk and cheese even though they prevail in the same circles, perusing in violent tendencies when money and fake goods are concerned. The gangland scenario shone through bright and clear in Runaway Girl and I thoroughly enjoyed the mysterious and suspenseful scenes. In general Runaway Girl is amazing, the context of the story is harrowing and mysterious but also with a loving touch of calmness patrolling through the pages, it was fantastic watching the different backgrounds of each character unfold before my eyes. I can’t to hear more about Anna and Freddie, hopefully Tanya becomes a firm favourite in future books too, they are a team that work well together. Thanks go to Emma Tallon, Bookouture and Noelle Holten for the advanced readers copy of Runaway Girl in exchange for an unbiased and honest review. Thanks again to Noelle to for allowing me to be part of the Blog Blitz, it was awesome x.

This is the debut novel by Emma Tallon and what a debut novel it is. I absolutely loved reading it but more about that in a bit. We first meet Anna Davis as she is fleeing a violent relationship. By the sounds of it, her then boyfriend kept her a virtual prisoner and she wasn’t allowed to leave the house. We first meet Anna Davis as she is fleeing a violent relationship. By the sounds of it, her then boyfriend kept her a virtual prisoner and she wasn’t allowed to leave the house. Her former boyfriend is the sort of man, who thinks that if he can’t have her then nobody will. He is soon on to her and vows to track her down. Not surprisingly Anna is afraid for her life and with good reason. Anna is one feisty young lady but this relationship has worn her down somewhat and she suffers from panic attacks. Anna ends up sharing a flat with a former stripper called Tanya Smith. Tanya sounds like a lovely lady, who has a big heart and who loves to have a good time. It isn’t long until Anna and Tanya become firm friends. Anna does have trust issues too and at times these issues get in her way. Although she isn’t looking for a relationship, Anna catches the eye of a gangland figure called Freddie Tyler. Freddie sounds like the exact opposite of Anna’s former boyfriend. When Freddie is with Anna, she is his world and he does everything he can to make her happy. Freddie can be kind and considerate but I wouldn’t like to get on the wrong side of him because when he kicks off he scares the poop out of me. However appearances and people can be deceptive and are Tanya and Freddie who they really say they are or is Anna in even more danger than she was before? Will Anna’s ex track her down? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you. Blimey, oh riley this was certainly a read and a half. The book starts with a bang, hits the ground running and maintains the pace throughout. I feared for Anna’s safety so much that I empathised with her and I felt myself go through similar feelings to her when she thought that she was in danger. There were moments where I felt my heart rate increase, my blood pressure rise and I didn’t want to turn the page because I genuinely feared what was going to happen next. I even found myself holding my breath because I didn’t want to give any clues away that I was there. Then I had to give my head a shake and tell myself that it was fiction and that the characters couldn’t hear me. If I am enjoying a book then I tend to ‘live’ the story which is exactly what happened in this case. Reading this book was like being on a rather scary rollercoaster ride with lots of twists and turns and moments where you feel your stomach churn in anticipation of what is happening. I did become addicted to reading this book and because I wanted to see what was going to happen to Anna, I just kept turning the pages. The page numbers and the time flew past but because I was enjoying the book so much, I hadn’t noticed. I would have no hesitation in recommend this book and this author to other readers. This is certainly an ideal book for fans of Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, Mandasue Heller, Jessie Keane and Casey Kelleher. Emma Tallon deserves to be as popular as the aforementioned authors. If the underworld is as scary as it sounds then I don’t want any part of it. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and I sincerely hope that we don’t have too long to wait. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Being a fan of books by Martina Cole, Mandasue Heller, Casey Kelleher etc I was very interested to hear of a new author who has written her first book of a similar type. Wow was I glad that I did! This book had everything, good characters, excellent story line and was gripping from start to finish. I understand that there will be a sequel and cannot wait for it to be published. This is a book that I had no hesitation in giving 5 stars to and can thoroughly recommend it.

All reviews can be found on my blog at https://thewritinggarnet.wordpress.com Well, this is a tad dark! Let's just say that Anna and her boyfriend haven't always seen eye to eye, with Anna now realising that if she doesn't leave now, she won't have a life to leave. Will her boyfriend catch up with the runaway girl? Or is someone else to get her, maybe a wolf dressed in sheep clothing? A new author for me, but one that is now on my radar for future releases, especially if any forthcoming novels are as fast paced and intense as this one! 'Runaway Girl' is not an easy read due to the domestic side of things, but the content of the book is on par with modern day society and, whilst it is an incredibly hard hitting read, it is one that may make people sit up and take notice. Just because someone smiles at you, it doesn't mean that they're nice, and just because someone frowns at you, it doesn't mean they're going to pinch your lunch money. However, poor Anna learns the hard way as the 'Runaway Girl' realises that the only person you can trust is yourself. Dark, devious and intense, this shocking read will leave you reeling.

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy. 3.5* A romantic story told in the guise of a gangland tale. Not as gritty or as violent as others in this genre but I would be interested to read more as the characters develop through a series. A tad predictable in places and a little unrealistic. Is a hardened criminal really going to wine and dine a woman without expecting anything in return? Or am I just too cynical maybe!!!!!!

This story was gritty and raw, just like I’ve seemed to find in books of this genre.  You can’t write a gangland book without it being a bit brutal and hard-hitting and this certainly was!  The characters were all likeable, and Anna in particular was definitely a favourite.  The story was fast paced and kept up the action all the way through.  It certainly had me biting my nails down to the knuckle a few times in suspense and the adrenaline ran high in anticipation of what would happen!
