If you want more mind-blowing orgasms you’ll need a conversation starter, a scintillating, whimsical, funny and informative permission slip to step outside your sexual comfort zone and embrace that “other” more adventurous you. You’ll need Total Mindfu*k! Sexual roleplay at its core is a form of erotic escapism, allowing participants that may have some inhibitions or hang-ups in their sex life (possibly stemming from prior bad experiences, sexual or verbal abuse, religious guilt or cultural influences, etc.) to step into the role of someone unfazed by such things for a while. For some, roleplaying is just another awesome tool in the sex drawer; for others, roleplaying can become the dominant or only way they orgasm because this temporary disassociation with the abused, shamed or mistreated self can be incredibly empowering. Total Mindfu*k emphasizes improvisation and imagination over elaborate costumes and predetermined scenes, allowing you more leeway to adapt in the moment, share a laugh and blow each other’s minds (and bodies). Meticulously crafted to transform supposedly taboo, experimental or shame-inducing sexual exploits into accessible and utterly orgasmic adventures for the rest of us, Heat & Stir’s Fast and Filthy Guidebooks get it done in about a hundred pages (Fast), including intense sexual encounters and pottymouth (Filthy) as promised.

I purchased this in part due to my agreement with the author's ethos of, in summary, 'sex without shame'. (This should be as obvious as 'drinking water without shame', yet somehow is not). Also because this sounds like a good idea for a series. And for ideas? Well could be. Still, I entered with caution. I mean, role play - associations with nylon-tastic "sexy" nurse's or fireman come to mind. The author quickly assures us that dressing up is not central to matters. I mean, role play - associations with nylon-tastic "sexy" nurse's or fireman come to mind. The author quickly assures us that dressing up is not central to matters. Or not unless you want it to be. It's about attitude, with the potential to enhance sexual liberation. And that brings us to another point in the guide, the importance of understanding your own and your partner's limits. For all its humour, serious points are made about this and about the potential of role play for those with previous negative experience, a matter on which the author writes with the credibility of personal experience. The key point of difference lies in the 'case studies' that form the bulk of the book, with brief advice and analysis at the end of each chapter. These examples may make the reader feel a little voyeuristic (a good or bad thing, depending...), but are important as they prevent the guide becoming a dry list of decontextualized advice (in many ways, it's all far from dry), and add to the humour and humanity. Role play for enjoyment, not performance perfection. As the title suggests and blurb indicates, content is very open, the promised “intense sexual depictions” is not an understatement, including use of language. This contains your Greek / Latin ‘medical’ terminology, but a far heftier dose of salty Germanic / Anglo Saxon. (Personally I find this refreshing, but it may not be for everyone). This is employed in relevant description but also with liberal abandon throughout. I guess because the writer likes it filthy dirty. But then we were told that upfront.
