Food is plentiful, the city of Prescott is healing, and there’s even a battalion of new recruits for the Marines. Everything seems to be going Angriff’s way, until people start trying to kill him again. When the aggressive Chinese send an armored force to capture old America’s largest tank farm, Angriff can rally only desperate measures to stop them. But first he must crush the traitors both inside and outside of Operation Overtime. Angriff must rely on others to do what he has always done for himself. As the body count mounts, he has to determine who he can trust and who wants him dead. The coincidences and reactions to them in this book strain credulity to the point that it hampers enjoyment of the book. Just not as good or believable as the first two volumes in the series. Mr. Webb begins his chapters with quotations, many of them apparently fictitious. Web searches to discern which are fictitious were complicated in this volume by his referring to Edward Milliken rather than the author's actual name, Edwin Milliken. Now I wonder if some of the others in these volumes which I could not locate on the web are also caused by misspellings or the use of wrong names rather than being fictitious.

Webb's 7th Cavalry runs into massive resistance and struggles to survive while doing their best to rescue what few allies they can find in a wide-reaching third volume that opens up the theater of operations and gives us new points of view on the remnants of the United States. Once again Webb has delivered a military thriller worthy of Clancy or Brown. If you are a military fiction aficionado, you must read this series.

General Angriff has started to get things under control when he is blindsided by another deep-sleep team and the pesky Chinese who are making a run for abandoned US tanks and ordinance. So, brave US troops flying the flag against various enemies and led by a slightly over the top character in Angriff. Plenty of brave US cliché here but (thank Goodness) less of the right wing rhetoric that was a tad annoying in the first book. But, having said that, this is well written and pretty good fun. Yep, you have to accept that it is a book that delivers what it says on the tin, but it delivers it pretty well to be honest.

The third book in William Webb's "Last Brigade" series has even more twists than the first two. The series is based on the central premise that the USA as we know it has disappeared. Although there are still people alive, none of them represent the USA. In fact, some have formed into vigilante groups - much as the bushwhackers did post-Civil War. The series is based on the central premise that the USA as we know it has disappeared. Although there are still people alive, none of them represent the USA. In fact, some have formed into vigilante groups - much as the bushwhackers did post-Civil War. Additionally, there is a large segment of the Chinese Army on what was American soil, a segment of fanatical Islamists, a private army of killers with "GR" tattooed on their forearms, and for the first time, we hear about a Mexican Army patrolling Arizona. However, the famous 7th Cavalry, led by a General of the Army whose style reminds me of George Patton, has been cryogenically "frozen" for 50 years, and is thankfully awakened in time to establish themselves as the real "American Americans", link up with the Apaches and a few odd souls, and fight a multitude of enemies. The characters are very well developed, the story is gripping enough that I read the 400+ pages in 3 days, and there are enough unanswered questions at the end that I'm looking forward to book #4.

This story is full of action, probably enough for 2 books at times with lots of moving parts. I enjoyed the slight subtle change in direction of some characters with growth in their styles and personalities. Liked the inclusion of some small detail of what is happening elsewhere in the world. Which happened to include my home town (Perth Australia). I have experienced the strange radio phenomena with receiving messages from long distances so this rang particularly true in my memory. Some more ideas on how the rest of the world is faring would be good in future books. Not sure how the juggling of all those characters is going to go as it must be hard to keep all the moving parts heading the right way. Keep writing and I will keep reading.

Another good book in the series with one caveat. I still enjoy the premise of this series. I enjoy the characters, I don’t enjoy the changes you made in some you took a great character like nipple and change to 180°. I get the fact that maybe she shouldn’t be psychotic, but she should be just as deadly. Besides that that’s the only minor complaint I have with this series and this particular book.

Fast moving, action packed , hard to put down Great action packed story, I await each new installment with anticipation. Some portions of the story take a lot of poetic license, like getting a sixty year old Globemaster air worthy in one evening, without new tires, that being said I really, really like this series.

Another Page Turner Another great book by this author. The story kept me up most nights just to see what would happen next. The story answered a few questions, but opened a lot more. It also left a few cliff hangers just to round things out. Overall a great story and a great read.

Wow, what a series. More like speculative fiction than science fiction. Author provides a good pace of action with a fair devotion to subplots and minor characters. I like the thematic elements, especially American exceptionlism. I enjoy the chapter headings. Perhaps if the chapters were longer the author would not have to research so many headings and we would have the next book sooner.

Another Excellent Read! I started reading the book expecting a high octane adventure. Needless to say, I was definitely NOT disappointed. I work long hours with few breaks so it took a few days for me to read it but I didn’t want to put it down. I highly suggest reading the series!

Do you have conniptions? I’ve allowed myself to delve into book #3 of Bill-san’s The Last Brigade. Conniption is for those who have NOT been there & done that. In other words, a projection of angst or bravado to misrepresent the awkwardness of possessing nuttin in their emotional tank or the lack of decisive leadership experience to offer those whom look up to those in charge. Angriff-san can be cheered on or booed in his capacity as a guiding light to bring about restoration of the republic of America. Some out there in this world don’t believe the same. Unfortunately for his detractors, he is rather firm in his beliefs. The belief of doing right. Come hell & no water is not his concern. He has been designated Supreme Commander as a 5 star over all American forces worldwide. Angriff-san is bringing da rain. Sit a spell within its pages & cheer da Goot Guys On, why Don’cha. I did & have left Bill-san’s digital restaurant placing my reservation for his next recipe of Angriff-san’s wordscape. No worries. Kinda hard to resist but there is no digital poundage in consumption here. Enjoy please.

Another great continuation of a terrific series. There’s no slacking off the pace in this third volume. The Chinese have been knocked back but they are still a determined foe. The Islamic cult to the east appears to be content licking their wounds for the moment but they are still a mighty force to be dealt with. Light is being shown upon the rebel forces having the tattooed “GR” on their forearm. Linking GR’s wealth with the Chinese could cause serious problems for Angriff. Between GR’s mercenaries and the misled Americans under General Steeple, assassination attempts continue against Angriff, his leaders, and his family. Speaking of Angriff’s family, there are new revelations to be learned. Our darling Nipple also endures trials in confronting fears from the past. Aside from the continuous action, this volume delves further into the personal lives and emotions of the main characters. This is welcomed additional background to get to know the players even better before advancing to the final volume. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great series but spoiler alert It is a great series, I am enjoying it immensely. But after reading the first few pages (and that's as far as I have got) i need to issue a spoiler alert. DO NOT READ THE LIST OF CHARACTERS OR SCHEDULE OF CHARACTERS OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED. It gives away too much. Some i suspected, it was hinted at. Excellent book...... I don't think William Alan Webb can write a less than perfect book, he doesn't have it in him. This whole series has been great.
