Vigil is the second book in the The Prodigal Son series. This can be read as a standalone though this book continues the story started in the first book. There is violence and religious themes. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all info here. The author did a good job of explaining what is going on and describing the characters and the setting of the story for new readers. This series is a mix of PNR, religion, and mystical. Dresden, dragon and demons, oh my! If you love urban fantasy and thrillers, with a slice of humor on the side, this is the book for you. I am not going to go into the story overview that is what “the blurb is for.” The story is what I call a “quick read”, the writer and the characters grub you from page 1 and take you on a grand adventure that you can’t help but stay to the end. I started reading and finished the book in one sitting.

A solid followup to War Demons in novella form. I re-read War Demons and found my first impression were correct in that this is exceptional urban fantasy with a nice take. Vigil follows up on finding the dragon to slay from the first book. This was a very different story in regards to how this achieved as compared to the genre is general. Loved the Catholic elements.

Such a great story of dragons and knights. Definitely intriguing for a first book by this author. Certainly ready for another one.

This is a fantastic fast-paced, Catholic story about a modern-day paladin and his quest to save the girl. Well written it is full of Demons, dragons, maidens, faith, and swordfights, and will have you on the edge of your seat! Great storyline, great characters, will he save the day? Read the novella and find out.

Both Faith and Peter had some immature mental dialogue that added to the non-connection of the characters for me. Basically we have a kidnapped damsel in distress Faith, a knight Peter with some friends who is the wielder of the Sword of St. Michael off to slay the dragon. The dragon has some very funny one-liners at times and a very malevolent side. Some of the banter between the friends is somewhat entertaining. There are some interesting demons and other characters along the way as we twist and turn within the cavern under the church. While I did enjoy many parts of the book I could not for some reason feel a connection with the characters.

I had a lot of trouble reading this book. I was very intrigued to read a book with dragons that took place present day. my biggest issue was trying to figure out what was going on. There is little description as to what their plan is or what they are soing, but crazy detail on the environments they are in. You can change point of view in the middle of a chapter, and you feel like you missed something through the entire book. I read the first half twice. Another big thing for me was that they use names, nicknames, and nationality to tell you who is speaking. So one person can be called 3 different things and you just have to keep up. In one sentence he said the sword was STEEL, then not made of STEAL. Also, Faith doesnt know French, but then she is the translator the entire book. Sentences repeat two times in a row, but with different punctuation, and some punctuation is just plain missing.

I didn't realise this was book 2 when I requested it off Booksprout! I haven't read book 1 so was a little confused at times. This can be read as a standalone but I think reading book 1 would help. Anyway. This was a fast paced and entertaining read. I liked the characters and the plot was interesting and engaging. I will have to check out the first book though to fully follow the timeline of events. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. if you're looking for a story that's not just another shifter romance or wizardry saga, this just might be right up your alley! dragon's don't sound much like the good guys , but who and what they and some ancillary characters are is a part of this journey. reluctant heroes, near death experiences, good and evil - this book is packed with confounding plots. read on if you want to join in the adventure! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This book is obviously part of a series but can still be read on its own and is not a cliffhanger. It apparently follows a previous book where the hero, Peter, tries to save a young lady from being kidnapped by a dragon and a witch and he fails. In this book he is hot on the trail of the dragon. There is non-stop action and surprises throughout. The book is a quick easy read and good entertainment.

I have yet to read War Demons, the first book, but I will. With this in mind, it did take a bit in the beginning to get everything straight but once that was accomplished, I really enjoyed this story. It's so much more than just a thriller/horror story! You really should read the first book before reading this one but if you can't/don't want to then you can still enjoy this one. Pretty good story and good explanations of characters if you have not read the first book. This book just became available on Amazon. My copy was from the author as a pre-read eval. I did like the book. It is better than some and not so good as others. But I read a LOT of books and what I like may not be what someone else likes.

Kindle Unlimited, think at some time was supposed to review this book but whatever happened and didn't, and very sorry still got reminded. Lacks editing, continuity, sense, grammar, etcetera to point couldn't make enough sense of anything, so that's a definite fail. Good excellent addition to the series. Peter and his crew have their work cut out for them. A dragon is hard to handle, but having the sword of Archangel Michael definitely comes in handy. I look forward to many more stories in this series. War Demons is excellent.
