The Witches of Keating Hollow series has been a blast. I’ve been devouring the books off Kindle Unlimited. I just love the small town of Keating Hollow. It’s a wonderful magical community where everyone knows everyone and what’s going on. Each book in the series brings us a new couple to enjoy as well as new drama and emotional struggles. I was drawn into the suspense surrounding Abby and why she left Keating Hollow. I enjoyed how the author kept us in the dark until it was time to tell us why she left her home town. There is a lot of emotion and a second chance at love. I felt for Abby and Clay who after years apart are finally finding each other. It’s full of magic, healing, and heart. Rated: 4 Stars

DNF at 36% Definitely not for me. A soppy love story with poorly imagined characters, poor pacing, and a weak plot. The magic was definitely an after-thought, and although there was a wide cast of characters, they were completely one-dimensional. The conflict, such as it was, was just so dull. Often, a major problem would be introduced, and then it would be conveniently and completely resolved within a couple of pages. Lots of people loved the novel (which is why I bought the e-book,) but I couldn't finish it. To each their own, but I found this vapid and dissapointing.

This was a second read, and I loved it as much this time as the first time I read it. A coming-home story of a witch who has blamed herself for magic gone wrong for years (so much that it has cost her the things she wanted most), this is a contemporary romance with light paranormal thrown in. There's no heavy world building or origin stories here. There's just enough witch added to an already lovely story of real life problems. The hero and heroine are a second chance romance that you root for. This was a second read, and I loved it as much this time as the first time I read it. But I find that hard to believe... if the connection between the two of them was so strong, I don't understand why the H didn't follow/chase the h after she left town ten years ago or even try look her up in the intervening years (before he gets married etc. etc.). How is he not resentful for her deserting him? I understand that what happened to her was traumatic, but what seems to be implied in the story is that she breaks up with him shortly after the incident, flees town and he just accepted it (because it's never explicitly said). He is so perfect that he accepted her decision and didn't even try to change her mind. He even says that he believes that it was her choice, and that he couldn't have done anything... like what?!? If this is your "true love" wouldn't you at least put up a fight? I just find it unbelievable that he didn't bother fighting for their relationship or trying to comfort her in what was clearly a very traumatic time for her. Another example is when he tells her he needs to concentrate on his child, but then literally a few pages later and ( and a week later in the books timeline), he changes his mind because now he can't stand being separated from her and believes she gets along with his child - this is all based on watching her interact with his child twice. In other words, the book lacks nuance and there is no suspense or real building up of the relationship. As I write this more and more instances of under developed plot points come to mind, so to keep this from being a list of negatives, I shall end here. Suffice to say I found this an underwhelming story. This second chance romantic format when written well can be so powerful, but sadly this isn't. Don't think I'll be reading anymore from this writer.

This is a story not just about witches but of so much more. It is about family and coming together, of lost loves and finding yourself. Of learning to look inside yourself and not be afraid of the past. I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well written and written about in a way that you could picture them in your mind. The cast is made up of a family of four sisters who were raised by their much-loved father. Clay, who was her long ago boyfriend also faces hard decisions of his future and that of his daughter. They both receive support from their families and friends which helps them make big changes in their lives. For better or worse…only time and reading this story will tell. Deanna Chase has written a beautiful story and has weaved a tale that will have you spellbound until the last page is turned. Believe me, I started out to read “just a few” chapters before bed and the next thing I knew it was three in the morning. I had lost track of time and never even realized it. I am not hesitant to recommend this to anyone. So, if you enjoy a well written book that will keep you entertained and that you can lose yourself in and forget about life for a while, then this is definitely for you! I am so looking forward to the next book in this series!

This is a wonderful story of family, friends, love, and friendship. It was a pleasure getting to know these complex, and likable characters. This story is engaging and fast-paced, I didn’t want to put it down. I look forward to reading more in this series. I received a copy of this book from the author, my review has been voluntarily submitted.

I read this as part of Carol’s Crazy Bookish World Facebook Group 2020 Reading Challenge. The January challenge was to read a new-to-me author. This is my first Deanna Chase book and I really enjoyed it. Definitely found a new author to love and a new series to devour. Recommend this book to readers who enjoy entering a paranormal world where the romance is sweet and there are plenty of laughs.

Abigail “Abby” Townsend is returning home to Keating Hollow after receiving news that her father, Lincoln has cancer. It has been ten years since Abby left after the death of her best friend, Charlotte. Abby has felt guilty since that day and has not created a potion since then. Abby arrives in town and is surprised when she sees Clay Garrison outside Townsend’s Keating Hollow Brewery which is owned by her father. She wishes to avoid him since Abby does not look her best but ends up in an accident which brings him over immediately (of course). The attraction between Clay and Abigail is palpable. Abby knows a relationship is not possible since she has no intention of staying in Keating Hollow. Clay has just gotten out of a bad marriage and has his eight-year-old daughter, Olive to consider. Lincoln is ill from the chemotherapy and none of the potions they have obtained are helping. Abby wants to alleviate his symptoms, but her magic is blocked. What will it take for Abby to have full use of her powers again? Clay has the fight of his life before him. His ex-wife has decided to seek custody of Olive, and Clay will need his wits about him if he to win this battle to keep Olive safe. Can Abby overcome the past, so she can have a bright future? Come along to Keating Hollow to find out what happens with Clay, Abby and Olive in this magical tale. Soul of the Witch is the story of witches, family, friendship, magic, guilt, tragedy, lost love, forgiveness and so much more. The Townsend family has four girls: Faith, Noel, Yvette and Abby who were raised by their father, Lincoln. Soul of the Witch focuses on Abby. The point-of-view alternates between Abby and Clay. I like that we get to see things from each character’s perspective. Soul of the Witch is well written and has a steady pace. The story contains great characters with my favorites being Daisy and Olive. Val is the villain of the story and she adds drama (one of those characters that you love to dislike). It allows readers to see what Clay will do to protect his daughter (we get to see his core beliefs). Abby is a complex character. She has been living in New Orleans where she earns a living creating soaps and lotions infused with a touch of magic as well as selling her art. Abby has a boyfriend who has become focused on himself (his career and how Abby can help him succeed). She needs to understand what exactly happened ten years ago which means talking to Charlotte’s mother. To move forward with her life, Abby needs to forgive herself. Keating Hollow is a small town where everyone knows your business. The descriptions of the delectable delights available at A Spoon Full of Magic will have your mouth watering and wishing you could transport yourself into the story. For those of you that enjoy alcoholic beverages, there are some creative brews available at Townsend’s Keating Hollow Brewery (I am amazed at the various flavors). My only negative comment is there is some predictability. Soul of the Witch is a charming paranormal romance novel. My rating for Soul of the Witch is 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). There is a scene near the end that will just melt your heart (one of those “ahhhh” moments). It is a heartwarming, magical story that will delight fans of Denna Chase. Heart of the Witch is the next book in Witches of Keating Hollow series.

Summary: It’s been ten long years since Abby Townsend fled her small hometown of Keating Hollow. When she left, she didn’t just leave behind guilt, regret, and painful memories. She left behind family, love, and her magic too. Everything comes rushing back as she steps across the town limits for the first time in years. She knows she should be making her plans to get out of town as soon as possible, but her reason for being home is more important. She has to be there to help and support her dad. She’ll focus on that, and then hightail it back to New Orleans. But it’s hard to escape the healing magic of her small town, not to mention the magnetic pull of the man who got away. After years of struggling with crushing guilt, can her friends, family, first love, and a joyful eight year old heal her heart and lead her back to her magic? Starting this book, I expected a second chance romance and some witchy magic, and I got that. Soul of the Witch is about so much more than that, though, too. It’s about family, friends, history, love, regret, joy, and magic. I loved the world these witches inhabited, which centered around what was basically a witch's commune. It was quirky, close-knit, and cozy like your favorite sweater. I liked Abby. She carried so much guilt and regret you could practically feel it dripping off the page. My heart ached for what she had been through, had seen. But she was strong, too. She may not have handled past events in the best way possible, but she did what she could and tried to live her life. Essentially, she closed herself off in certain ways to try to stop the pain. The hero, Clay was also pretty amazing. He was a fantastic father, as well as caring, kind, and supportive. I adored them together. You could definitely see their magnetic connection between the lines. I was just confused for the reason behind their split in the first place. Yes, it says Abby left town and the reason why, but nowhere did it say the specific circumstances behind their breakup. Abby had to escape the emotional and mental upheaval. Clay left town, too. Why couldn’t he have followed her? This wasn’t really clear to me. That said, that issue didn’t take away from the book. I liked the storyline, and the characters made it easy to become invested. Everyone has something going on in their life, and I’m eager to read all about it. I did have the question as to whether the world at large knew of the existence of witches, but maybe we’ll see that more in future books. The ending felt a bit rushed, as I would have liked to linger over the relationship development between Abby and Olive, but it was still sweet. Keating Hollow is a town I will be reading about again very soon. ♡

I'm sorry but I honestly hate when authors take an insipid love story and dress it as something else. This is the literary version of clickbait. No, you're not getting into an urban fantasy book about witches, as title and cover might suggest... It's just a soppy and excruciatingly cringey romance but with a witch as protagonist... because it sells more. Witches of Keating Hollow is a new series to me, Soul of the Witch being the first book. It is also a new author, Deanna Chase. This came up on my recommend list on Kindle and I'm always on the hunt for a new author and a new series. I enjoyed the story, the humanity of it, how we all have things that we blame ourselves for that in reality we had no control over, things that we thought other people would hate us for, or things that we thought made us terrible people, only to find out years later upon reflection that nothing was exactly what we thought it was. This was a sweet story of teenage friends, of mistakes made and new hope and living life again to the fullest, of starting over and forgiving ourselves. With everything going on in the world right now, this was such a welcome read, it took me away from the world and allowed me to relax and enjoy life, love and second chances. In fact the whole community of Keating Hollow is a vacation for real life for a bit. I would adore a real-life village like that, someplace that everyone knows everyone and rallies around each other. It was definitely a feel good book for the time.

This was my first book experience with Deanna Chase and have to say I was pleased. Because I was short on reading time, I chose the audio version. The narrator was commendable though I would say she has a soothing voice so I had to work harder to listen and not doze off. Her characters are very relatable although they are in a paranormal witch world which make them captivating. I didn’t know anything This was my first book experience with Deanna Chase and have to say I was pleased. Because I was short on reading time, I chose the audio version. There isn’t anything that stood out to me about them, yet her storytelling made them well-liked. I didn’t know anything about the story when I began, so I was surprised when I finished that it ended up being more of a contemporary romance, with witches. I kept expecting them to face some form of a villain or adversity, but the only adversity they face is themselves and their own intra-personal relationships. It’s refreshing; yet I usually enjoy books with a bit more action than this, so it ends up being a bit underwhelming. Since there is no outstanding villain or issue, I would personally say the book could be read as a stand-alone and you would be satisfied with the ending. I will have to say though that the ending made me bawl like a baby. Flat out ugly cried. It was heartwarming, but man did it ever hit home with me. After a short break for some other more thrilling books, I’ll probably pick up the series again just to see what happens in the next chapters of these characters lives.

But as she drove past her father’s business and saw Clay standing there, she floored her car and hit a Mini Cooper. Clay still meant something to her and she wanted to get away from her feelings for the guy she first loved and never forgot. This is a definite feel-good story and very well written. The characters will draw you right in. The town is full of friendship, love, forgiveness, and redemption too. Not able to forgive herself for a magical mistake in her teens that resulted in tragedy, Abby’s return put her right where she needed to be. You’ll love the town and the people residing there. How can Abby heal from her constant pain? Will she be able to walk away? See what happens and how a new surprise relationship might do what 10 painful years away couldn’t!

I have a lot of feelings about this book. and it was mediocre, but the ending, uuuugh just no. it solidified a drop to 2 stars for me. I was looking for a light fluffy romance with a little magic / paranormal element to it. And oh it's here. The writing is fine enough, but it really felt like like the author didn't plan the timeline well in this book, like the ACTUAL time for things to happen. Not pacing and plotting which really raked on my nerves the whole book. Not pacing and plotting which really raked on my nerves the whole book. The romance is hyper rushed and the reason the book offered the two leads should be together seems to be their EXs were trash more so than any actual qualifiers and "magic" between the two leads. I really hate romances that do this. Like I enjoy reading EX drama but I don't like romances building for lack of romance but more "well my ex is a completely terrible person, but this girl, she's nothing like my ex so I gotta marry her!" Basically, this book isn't the worst, if you love Lifetime Channel romances, and really love reading contemporary romance more and no so much paranormal / fantasy. This is a nice fluffy walk. Other wise, steer clear.

Normally when I don't finish a book, I give it a 1-star rating. I can't do that with this book because it's not that bad. I was just bored. Really, really bored. I tried to finish the book and gave up halfway through it. This is a book about magic, witches. Yet the magic felt like an afterthought and was barely used at all. If it's not a magic book then it's a romance, right? Wrong. The romance was forced between two flat and underdeveloped characters. There was nothing that was compelling about eit Normally when I don't finish a book, I give it a 1-star rating. I can't do that with this book because it's not that bad. I was just bored. Ok, then it must be a mystery book, right? I mean it is labeled as a cozy mystery. Wrong. Again. If there is any sort of mystery in this book, it sure wasn't written in the first half of the book! I kept waiting for something to happen and it never did. The book is completely mislabeled. It's not a mystery, it's not a paranormal, and it's not a romance book. What this book is, is a big pile of disappointment. I expected more from all the glowing reviews.

Ms. Chase is one of the authors I read frequently, and lately she has put out a few books close to each other. Because of this, when I started reading this book, I have to admit I wasn’t exactly sure what the book was exactly about. It really didn’t even matter. I was drawn in immediately when I started reading it, and I was captivated with the world of Abby Townsend. This was such a sweet, tender book with friendship, romance, and a sense of closeness between people. I admit to crying at the end. Yes, there was a little bit of paranormal in this book, but please don’t let that turn you off of this book if you aren’t into that as it’s such a small part of the overall plot. If you love a book that is warm, tender, full of romance, friendship, fun, and personality, give this a try. Ms. Chase is a master of words no matter the genre she writes in! Highly recommend! I was provided the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.

This is a great book; this is the first book in the Witches of Keating Hollow series and is written by Deanna Chase. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
