In The Eye Of The Dragon - by J.S. Rapheal Far across the Sea of Fury, the Mainland sky was dark as ship ruins still smoldered from the battle fought by the Saber Knights of Harbor Keep against the Dragon Lord army. The idillic calm of the sleepy seaside village of Harbor Keep vanished like the morning mists the day its inhabitants learned of the defeat of the Saber Knigh In The Eye Of The Dragon - by J.S. Rapheal Far across the Sea of Fury, the Mainland sky was dark as ship ruins still smoldered from the battle fought by the Saber Knights of Harbor Keep against the Dragon Lord army. The idillic calm of the sleepy seaside village of Harbor Keep vanished like the morning mists the day its inhabitants learned of the defeat of the Saber Knights and the death of their beloved Kim Chiu.  Mikko Moondrake's father was Kim Chiu. His death in the failed Mainland crusade left Mikko orphaned and filled with too much rage for her 12 year old heart to manage. Her mother died after childbirth, so Mikko’s only remaining family is her uncle and caretaker Osawei Chiu, a priest of the Great Mother and keeper of the Temple Mount Shrine. Here Mikko shares a humble home with her Uncle on the outskirts of Harbor Keep. Osawei, a kind and loving guardian, seeks to guide Mikko from her feelings of revenge toward a higher celestial purpose. Her priestly uncle insists there are powers beyond the sword and even beyond those of the Dragon. He speaks of the Great Mother, who has always protected their family. Mikko  is skeptical, but, her feelings of utter powerlessness puts her in a position to open her heart to her uncle’s teachings. With her warrior father’s methods beyond her reach, Mikko realizes even a power her warrior heart struggles to understand is better than none at all. This begins Mikko’s walk upon the path of the spiritual warrior. At Madam Tso's shoppe where Mikko is an apprentice seamstress, Mikko is stunned to learn her father's former first lieutenant, Carver Jance, has survived the battle upon the Mainland shores and is now the Dragon Lord appointed emissary and leader over all of Harbor Keep, complete with orders to make ready for the Dragon armies to occupy the Isles. Osawei Chiu's attempt at a diplomatic, peaceful resistance fails when Carver's soldiers confront Osawei before pillaging the temple grounds. Osawei and Mikko flee to the hidden city of the Trogla, a reclusive reptilian warrior race and home of Mikko's best friend forever, Lila, the Trogla Princess.  A bond is formed with the Trogla King Omla who helps to formulate a plan to defend the Isles against the invading forces and their mighty war Dragons. Their strategy requires travel by insectoid mount across the Great Isle to the western ports before sailing to the island Mountain Monastery of the Blessed Promise. There Osawei is certain his former master Coopetchwa will know how to hatch the Griffin egg Mikko and he discovered. Before departing, Minjilina Jance, Carver’s sister is discovered seeking refuge near the entrance to the Trogla city. She is disgusted with Carver’s allegiance to the invading forces and asks to join the human and Trogla mission. The diverse band of heroes cross the Great Isle and visit the three major cities of Mostlov, Mahktar, and Oatslar, bringing with them the idea of an alliance to otherwise disparate and independent peoples.
