tells of the story of Diana from growing up, to her courtship with Prince Charles, and the birth of her first son. This story seems very edited and tells you no more than you have basically read already. It doesn't seem to be in Diana's own words or her side of the life she seemed to have led. tells of the story of Diana from growing up, to her courtship with Prince Charles, and the birth of her first son. Not a huge fan of this one. Definitely pro-Charles with lots of innuendo about Princess Diana's mental health instability. Not a huge fan of this one. Definitely pro-Charles with lots of innuendo about Princess Diana's mental health instability.

Hard to know what to say about this book, given that it was published shortly after the birth of Prince William, in 1983. It came in the mail from family with a note that it had been among my mother's things when she died in 2018 and was believed to have belonged to my grandmother who passed in 2004. I remember getting up in the middle of the night to watch the Royal Wedding on television in 1981. I can picture in my mind most of the moments described after Diana and Charles became publicly linke Hard to know what to say about this book, given that it was published shortly after the birth of Prince William, in 1983. I remember getting up in the middle of the night to watch the Royal Wedding on television in 1981. I can picture in my mind most of the moments described after Diana and Charles became publicly linked. And, of course, unlike the author, I know how the fairytale ended (it was interesting to see the author say that Diana had been approved as a bride for Charles by his good friend Camilla Parker Bowles) and Diana's tragic death. So much promise and so much propaganda intertwined. I learned some details about Diana's early life that I didn't know because I was too young when they got engaged. And I learned a lot about how inbred the nobility of Britain is. And I would probably have given the whole thing a higher rating if the author had not concluded the book by crowing about Diana being a clear triumph over feminism by being the perfect wife and mother and ideal of femininity. (And this despite a mini tirade over her father and uncle bragging about her virginity as a commodity being traded for a crown.)

So boring. The author clearly did a lot of research about royal lines or whatever but the book only went up to William's birth and I think I would have been more interested in reading about her later years. I skipped a lot of the history of the royal family so I would say I only read about two thirds of this book. So boring.
