Sexy, huh? Plus, after he gets you pregnant, you will emit a fishy odor for four months. Yep, our heroine is living the dream. It's like a fairy tale, but instead of the beast turning into a relatively good-looking (although slightly effeminate) man when she falls in love with him, he just stays a bald, scaly, slime-shooting, four-armed, egg-implanting beast. Living the dream.

It's empty, besides cargo and oh, yeah, an 8ft tall blue alien with four arms and a tail. Anyone else instantly think of Vishnu? He says he's slave 892 and she's his new master. Lucia gives him the name, Soren. Really looks like a Soren, doesn't he? It's 7 days travel to get back to her planet, so she and Soren just hang out and check out the cargo. Unfortunately, the Trepnils didn't die and are pursuing them. Lucia is forced to land on a nearby planet. Luckily, it's full of nice people that only want help harvesting fruit. Guess who's really efficient at harvesting by hand? Soren! After the harvest it's party time and these folks like to get wasted, dirrrrrrttty, and orgy it up. Lucia, or "Loo-Sha" as Soren calls her, drinks the natives' special orgy drink and wants to get her freak on. She commands him to hump her and we learn all about sex with a Melier alien. It's scary, in case you're wondering and involves a gallon of green alien reproductive goo at the end. After that thrilling encounter, Lucia & Soren get back to her planet and stay with her family. Meliers are basically never ever seen by humans & the other folks on Lucia's planet, so Soren gets a lot of looks and wtf comments. Lucia's family is very nice to him and helps him integrate. He & Loo-Sha keep up the humping and making small lakes of green Melier goo. Some drama with a stalker wannabe bf happens, drama about wtf kinda alien is Soren by the paparazzi/TMZ people, and that sort of nonsense happens. Plus, you know, they fall in love. This is an alien romance. The rest would be spoilerish to divulge. This book had too many filler details that weighed it down. I started skimming pretty quickly. I thought the best parts were the very beginning when Lucia is on the ship. After that, it kind of felt I was just reading a day to day journal of what they did and since j didn't care about the characters, I found that boring. I didn't dislike the characters, despite Lucia often being annoying, but I didn't care about them at all. The book switches between Lucia's POV and Soren's. His POV is very basic due to his history as a slave and they're brainwashed not to think + have their memories wiped. The overall plot was interesting and kept hinting that maybe Soren was more than he seemed. There's action in the book, but it felt clogged and slow. The things I didn't like about this book: Not a fan of the four arms things, makes me think of conjoined twins. The alien sex was pretty gross, not only because of the descriptions of the gallon of green goo webbing the guy produced, but also his anatomy. And it drove me nuts that Lucia kept referring to Soren as a baboon. Wtf would you say that? He's 8ft tall, blue, and hairless, where's the similarity to a baboon? All I could think about was a baboon's giant red bum when she referred to Soren as one. Horrible mental picture. I also found the final big bad drama to be way over the top and unnecessary. It was like a bad porn movie villain. Wait, do porn movies have villains? Whatever. Add that to some other out of character behavior by Lucia and I was just annoyed with the last part of the book. (view spoiler)[Lucia isn't down for an orgy, but she was fine having sex in front of Soren's brothers? That whole family green goo party was idiotic. (hide spoiler)] Conclusion, I didn't hate it and I liked the overall plot, but I didn't like the tangents it took. I think it could've been a smoother and more logical read.

***2.5 Stars*** This story started out a helluva a lot stronger than it finished. I think it's mainly because the author and I just had different visions. See, me? I wanted an alien erotica featuring a non-humanoid alien. Period. Not necessarily astory with depth and meaning. And this book had that....sometimes. It also had a lot of disgusting body fluids. And when I say a lot, I mean a LOT. But I'm not even going to go there... I digress. So, Soren was definitely a non-human alien. Yas!! And when I say a lot, I mean a LOT. But I'm not even going to go there... I digress. So, Soren was definitely a non-human alien. Yas!! We're off to a good start. Lucia is escaping from some super bad aliens and steals a ship loaded down with lots of goodies and guess who just so happens to be on board? Soren, or Slave 892 as he is known before Lucia so graciously gifts him the name of Soren (and his ultimately his freedom). So a human and a big, hulky 4 armed alien stuck on a ship in space together as they try to escape the super evil aliens? Yas! Yas! Yas! Now that's my kind of alien smut. It's 7 days before they can reach Lucia's home planet. What are they to do?? I can think of a few things that may pass the time. Bow-chicka-wow-wow. Apparently I am infinitely more creative than those two, though. But then the space baddies start closing in so they have to make an emergency stop at a planet unknown to them. What? Alright! Now we're talking. This is where it's going to take off, I can feel it. An unknown planet? Think of all the potential there. Savage tribes, ferocious beasties, other alien encounters. Boy was there some potential on that planet *cough* alien orgies *cough* And though Lucia and Soren do get around to some gardening (because of his root and planting, haha, get it?), this was a very short-lived leg of their journey. They ship out the very next morning, and for the next SIX days there's absolutely no. more. action. After that, the author made a lot of decisions I would not have made. I won't spoil it, I'll just say I did not like the plot device she used to pull the characters together, and the direction the story took is not one I would have chosen. I won't go so far as to say it was a bad book. It wasn't. It was well written for alien porn(ish) and the characters that were introduced (especially Gram--she was pretty damn funny) were good additions to the story. I actually really liked the whole family dynamic. I think there was some pacing issues in the second half of the book as it felt infinitely longer than the first half and there were some character inconsistencies and just some weird shit that felt thrown in there. Lucia kind of pissed me off at times with her selfish antics but I did love Soren (duh! I love hunky, possessive alien bad-asses that will kill for their partner) AND I finished this book it two days. That right there is enough to earn it 3 stars I think. In all honesty, I think this is a case of it's not you, it's me. There's a sequel but I just don't think I care enough to read it. It's just not the story I'd hoped it would be. Impromptu BR with Sh3lly and my other MacHalos. All alien lover weirdos welcome!

SPOILERISH!!! I loved the beginning of this book where Lucia escapes these baddies and saves Soren, who had been a slave. Their relationship was so sweet and kind with an attraction they didn't know what to do with. And then their first sex scene turned into a big hot mess and I could not think about anything being sexy about that. And the messes kept cumming (rim shot please). Not knowing quite what to do with him and having no prior memories of his time before slavery to the Trepnils Lucia offers him sanctuary and a temporary home with her on Dor Nye her home planet. So this one was a bit up and down for me, there were definitely parts that I really liked but then there were also other bits that I was slightly unsure of. I found the sexy scenes here really unsensual and not hot at all. I am usually all about the alienness and let's face it Soren was very alien so you would think I'd be in seventh heaven here. On reflection, I'm thinking maybe this was concentrating too much on the differences instead of connecting the dots and showing the whole exoticness of Lucia and Soren's connection. The relationship dynamic for me was also off I didn't feel any grand passion on either side it felt more geared towards friendship. I'm sounding all Debbie downer here and that's not what I want to do there was still plenty of things about this I liked for one this was a very easy fun read that was at times incredibly humorous. I also loved the physical descriptions of Soren 8ft, retracting claws, scales, tail and blue and he purrs aw, the Melier are certainly very different to humans and the way Soren pronounces Lucia's name Loo-Sha to cute. Lucia was kick-ass she had such a take no messing but still sunny disposition, she is strong and resilient and self-sufficient what's not to like. I wasn't much of a fan though of the brother's arrival, things seem to change direction quite drastically with there inclusion and especially after Soren regained his memory, I'm also not sure about the way this seems to be heading and if I'm even onboard with this, time will tell here. This one was very much up and down for me, I do want to know what happens next so I am invested enough to continue but I'm not sure if that will be just to finish and get closure of this particular story or if I will then read further into this series. The next book will probably make that decision for me. This was very imaginative with some great ideas and lots of humour and I am interested in seeing where this does go with book 2. Pros: Good action, interesting world building, divergent species and cross-species, evolving romance and good plot. Cons: high adventure morphs into overdone erotica, slightly immature H/h and a little on the ewww side for the sex. Poppy Rhys spins a good story. There is a heart-warming component to this book that is not often present in sci-fi romance, especially those of the cross-species variety. I would have been satisfied with a continuation of the high adventure side of the story within a fully realized alien culture, but pulling back on the erotica. Once Lucia gets home, the brave bounty hunter disappears for quite a while while she explores the bed sheets with her blue boy-toy. The end brings back some action-packed, dangerous scenes with a countdown of sorts that does a terrific job of heightening suspense. I'm wavering between three and four stars on this book because Rhys buries a really good story and a swoon-worthy love affair in too much sex. But I always round up, so.... four stars. I would have picked up book two because Rhys knows her way around an adventure storyline, except the foreshadowing of m/f/m with Soren's brother is just...unfortunate. I know I won't be able to get beyond the ewww in the next installment. However, I will look for other books by this author in the future.

The author needs to focus in on the plot and what details are essential to moving the story forward. Furthermore, the author needs to learn word economy. There is no reason I should have to suffer through an entire paragraph description of the protagonist's current choice of attire. At one point, I was subjected to a really long paragraph cataloging all the furniture and room decor in the bedroom. Is this a mystery novel? Are we playing 'spot what doesn't belong here'? On the subject of words, the writing was awkward, clunky, and wordy. Let's not forget to mention all those distracting punctuation errors almost every line. Here's my own little list of punctuation errors, just for the author: missing commas of direct address (biggest offender-- almost every line), missing subordinate commas, missing possessive apostrophe. Do your self a favour and buy a grammar textbook. Writers shouldn't have to depend on copy editors to do all the punctuating for them. That speaks to willful ignorance and the lack of desire to improve one's writing skills. You have to know the rules in order to break them. You're not being creative here, only simply ignorant of how sentence structure works. The characters were flat. It's finding books like this that put me off from reading new self-published works. If you're going to sell your novels, then act like a professional. Once money is involved, it becomes a business transaction. Hire an experienced editor, clean up your plot, and cut out all the unnecessary bits. And develop strong, compelling characters. Better yet, keep writing, but wait a decade before you publish anything. That should give you enough time and practice to get a decent grasp on grammar and the basics of the craft of writing. Read books on the craft of writing, paying strict attention to sections on plot, character, description, dialogue, narration, and self-editing. You will improve over time if you are really serious about this career.

This book is ridiculous. Here are the pros and cons - Pros: Th heroine has internal debates with herself that are actually quite funny. Cons: The heroine is the must hypocritical, demanding bitch ever. I honestly cant stand her most of the time. She is super against slavery and then when she finds one on her stolen ship she tells him that SHE IS HIS NEW MASTER. At first I was like well okay... at least she'll be nice. NO. She is bossy and rude. "pick me up! Go over there! Go do this, go do that. This book is ridiculous. Go do this, go do that..."It also annoyed me that the first time they have sex she orders him to have sex with her while he still thinks he is her slave (like if he thinks he has no choice then...) ALSO, the 'bad guy' was so one dimensional it drove me nuts. Bad guys are bad FOR A REASON (messed up childhood, misinformed, greed, hunger for power...) This bad guy is a jerk for no reason it was like wait what??? His only purpose was to let us see how immature and stupid the heroine actually was by her reactions... Finally, the other big weird thing was that the author kept bringing the family into the sex stuff.. Like the parents walk in on them and then every single chapter sex comes up in the conversation with the parents/grandparents/siblings.. It was weird and uncomfortable and so unrealistic... The heroine will start screaming in detail about a time they had sex and oh goodness the whole family heard you. They will then have sex and oh gosh everyone heard you screaming in pleasure. I would have ignored a few times but I mean this kind of thing happened like every 6 pages. I just really hated the heroine. She was rude and self entitled to say the least. And the hero was kind of like a lost horny puppy. He had no problem with her being rude af because oh my gosh her cooch smells great. I barely finished this 'book'. It does NOT deserve high rating.

This was a good story about a privateer woman who re-steals a ship and finds a male slave aboard. Lust and confusion follows. This combines several themes from other SFR stories, but the execution is good, and the characters have depth. There is a good amount of sex and violence, and the author doesn't hide the details of either. There was one section that I would have done differently, but it worked out fine in the end. This is set in a very broad universe, with many species to interact with. I This was a good story about a privateer woman who re-steals a ship and finds a male slave aboard. Fantastic read! Absolutely enjoyed it. Laughed a lot in the last part of the book. I am very tempted to give 5 stars, but I'm trying not to be a spaz. Review to come later. This was a nice start to an alien sci-fi romance. I'm glad it was offered as a kindleunlimited. I wish it had read more like a standalone. It wasn't a brutal cliffhanger but it did lack closure. I'm still likely to check out the next book in this series. This was a nice start to an alien sci-fi romance. I'm glad it was offered as a kindleunlimited. I wish it had read more like a standalone. I’ve been on a bit of Sci Fi alien romance run recently, luckily I am not the only one who like their heroes which extra parts and jewel toned skin. Some of our lovely followers of the Under the Covers Facebook page love it as well, and this series was one of the recommendations I received. In this review I will be talking about the first two books in the series: The Melier and The Melier: Homeworld. They focus on the same characters and is basically one big ol’ book split into two parts. They focus on the same characters and is basically one big ol’ book split into two parts. What I liked about this book and what grabbed my attention straight away was that the tables were turned. Normally it is a poor human woman who is kidnapped and her sexy alien mate saves the day. However, in The Melier our heroine Lucia saves our hero from slavery and gives him a chance at a brand new life. Unfortunately, Soren – as named by Lucia – has no memories of who he is or where he came from. Soren. What an alien. If you like your aliens weird and alien then Soren is for you. Being 7 ft tall, with 4 arms and blue skin with some different alien equipment you won’t mistake him for a earthling. However, despite his intimidating look I loved Soren; as much as a 7ft, blue alien with 4 arms can be adorable, he was adorable, I think it helped that he purred when he was happy. This was a great romance, however, I didn’t think it was a particularly sexy one. Despite loving weird alien differences unfortunately Rhys didn’t quite manage to make sexy times…sexy. Maybe because she focussed too much on how different Solen was from what you would usually expect rather than making the scene sensual. In the second half The Melier: Homeworld Soren has recovered his memories and we go from Lucia’s home to his. And it’s clear that this couple are on their way to becoming a triad. I enjoyed this book just as much as I did the first part, we were introduced to members of Soren’s family who I really hope get a book of their own. I also had the same issue with the second book that I did with the first it just wasn’t hot. Despite the addition of another sexy Melier. However, as the book wasn’t flooded with loads of sex scenes it was still a sweet alien romance/adventure and I was hooked. If you like sci fi romances with aliens as heroes this is for you! If you don’t like your romances a little ‘out there’ then you will probably want to avoid this, it’s not every bodies cup of tea. For myself, I am already desperate to read the next book in this series and see what other wonderful alien treats Poppy Rhys has in store for me. This book is set in an alternate/futuristic universe where our main character Lucia, although human, is from an alien world. To escape her boisterous family and irritatingly bigoted/pretentious suitor, she spends a majority of her time as a space bounty hunter, finding stolen ships and stealing them back from pirates (for a generous finder's fee, of course). I won't tell you more, suffice to say that there's a great deal of wild non-humanoid sex with explicit kick-ass scenes. Warning: this book is not for the faint of sex drive. Now for my opinion: LOVED IT! Brilliant story with fantastic characters that made me giggle like a virgin during her first sex-ed class! Can't wait to read Poppy's next book. I really encourage my fellow alien-romance-addicts to give this book a try. The Melier doesn't disappoint and neither does Poppy. Hmm, that's a sentence I never thought I'd say. And since no review is good without a few gifs, here are mine.

Excellent Alien read! This book had laugh out loud funny moments...and it was quite descriptive in its icky moments too. The Melier was recommended from the Amazon forums - Romance with aliens that actually look like aliens - and Soren (the hero) was definitely alien with his blue skin, four arms and a tail. I loved all the characters and can't wait until book 2 comes out. Excellent Alien read! This book had laugh out loud funny moments...and it was quite descriptive in its icky moments too. DNF at 15% I REALLY didn't like the heroine. I thought she was prejudiced from all her derogatory inner monologue about other aliens. She keeps mentally calling Soren a 'Blue Monkey' in her head. But really she seems to have little respect for anyone who isn't human. I also found her constant talking in slang that no one else could understand, very condescending. Basically I though she was a self centered tw*t. Too bad. I liked Soren's character but not enough to put up with her for the whole boo DNF at 15% I REALLY didn't like the heroine. Despite being wow, graphic, I did enjoy the first 3/4 of this book. I was very interested in reading a book where the alien was more radically different from humans than most SFR books. (view spoiler)[I did not really enjoy it as much once Soren regained his memory. I kind of liked that he was a nobody slave and she loved him despite that. The book radically changed after that with the brothers coming and obviously being interested in joining their relationship. Really great find I read this book as a kindle prime member but would have paid for it. The characters are so great and really defined. Funny, engaging and multi layered. This isn't one of those alien romances where the girl is an orphan and no one will miss her. She has a great family, friends and is a hero. And the alien isn't overly humanoid. He's pretty freaky looking and it's great. Can't wait for the 2nd book. Really great find I read this book as a kindle prime member but would have paid for it.
