I Spy Something Bloody Josh Lanyon 3.5 stars I've actually read this story before and rather like it. Mark, a Dickens-loving spy, has had enough of the spy trade and simply wants to try and fix things with his ex, Stephen, whom he abandoned for a couple of years in order to work "one last job". Stephen doesn't make it easy on him and there is a bit of spy shenanigans along the way. A sweet story with just a dash of action. Murder at Black Dog Springs Sarah Black 4 stars Not only does this take place on a reservation, it also takes place (mostly) in 1947, after World War II and the bombing of Nagasaki (which has some bearing on the story). Logan and Mike, Jay and Curtis - they are all friends who are struggling to find themselves again after the horrors they experienced in the war. I liked the pacing of the story, which felt suspenseful to me. Logan, the narrator, made for a thoughtful main character, reflecting as he did on his actions and the actions of others. Uncle Joe was great, too. Even the 'evil' characters were just greedy and/or mean, not wholly evil. But there were a few tense moments between Logan and Mike that (view spoiler)[had me fearing for their relationship, despite the opening chapter (hide spoiler)] . I'm giving this book 4 stars as I liked both stories pretty well.

I am not a huge Sarah Black fan, but this series is worth buying simply for Lanyons's stories. I really enjoyed them. This is how gay fiction should be done! I don't own this book edition, but only Josh's standalone story I Spy Something Bloody, which I've reviewed here. I don't own this book edition, but only Josh's standalone story I Spy Something Bloody, which I've reviewed here.
