Deliciously Sweet!! Let me start by saying I have not read any of the series that these characters belong to but I will definitely read them now!! I'm a sucker for a cookbook so when I saw that this was a cookbook yet it would have memories about the characters in the other series, I knew I had to read it. The recipes and the memories went together flawlessly. I haven't cooked one yet but I will be cooking those stuffed peppers soon! I truly enjoyed this book. 5 Stars from Reviews By Reds.

I'm about to leave a long review, but please read it all. You can tell these recipes were handed down, some are even written just like grandma wrote them; making this a cookbook not for the inexperienced! Someone who has never cooked, like I was in 1964),would ring a few recipes here a bit difficult. One recipe calls for buttermilk* but with no explanation of *. Several recipes call for ingredients with no instructions as to preparation like chop, dice, slice or shred. Last, the ingredients list I'm about to leave a long review, but please read it all. Last, the ingredients list is side to side instead of straight down which threw even me for a minute. That said, I have used some of the dishes and they were wonderful. My granddaughter hates breakfast casserole, (pg 126), but came back for thirds! Amazing!!! The Mac and cheese,(pg 104), is really good, but best of all I have to add in 54 years of cooking I have never been able to fry chicken! Now I can! Ginny's fried chicken,(142-3), OMG, just like grandmas, and off the chain!!!! I love this book. All the recipes are all tried and true examples of good old down home comfort food, to be made again and again. Buy this book. You'll treasure it till you have it memorized, then hand it down, I promise. Just have someone to call if you are a newbie.

I like this cookbook very much, it would have had 5 stars if it had had just a little color on the food pictures. But, nonetheless, I found 41 recipes I want to serve my family. Good homespun recipes. I have been trying to find that exact recipe for scalloped corn! My grandma made it like that and I love it. Thanks to goodreads giveaways for sending me this book, yummy, yummy! I also really liked the stories of her family, especially the one about her sons "crucifying" the youngest one on the clothesline pole, because they were doing the Bible study lesson. Lol as a mother I fully relate to her stories. Two of my girls decided to roast marshmallows in the living room. They made a campfire in a metal cookie tin. Nothing real serious happened, but they did melt a hole through the carpet. Thank god for throw rugs teehee!

Book received from Goodreads Giveaways. This cookbook is a tie in with this author's Coalson family in her Tempered Steel series. I have to admit I haven't read the series yet though I do have the first book. I'm interested in the series because I know the area of Illinois she's writing about. My family is from a town southeast of Grafton, Illinois where the story is set. I loved the recipes in this book. Many of them reminded me of the food my grandmothers cooked in my childhood. No matter if you a fan of The Tempered Steel series or not, this cookbook will fit anyone cookbook shelf. Maggie Adams not only gives you recipes, she also gives a glimpse of characters in the series, how cool is that! I love this not only do I get awesome recipes to try I get little stories off and on through it. I think my favorite story is the one that a certain little boy was taking jewelry to school to trade the girls for kisses. This makes you want to read the stories all over again since now you have these little tidbits that adds just a little more to their backgrounds.
