He’d managed to avoid her for twelve years, through a marriage, the birth of a son, and the death of them both. Can Shane forgive himself for the way he ended things with Bellamy, the death of his wife and son, and dare to grasp at a second chance for a happily-ever-after he doesn’t believe he deserves?

Can Shane forgive himself for the way he ended things with Bellamy, and the death of his wife and son, and dare to hope for a second chance at a happily-ever-after he doesn’t believe he deserves? My Thoughts: This is my first time reading anything by this author although I have watched a movie on the Hallmark Channel made from one of her books. This book is a well written second chance romance. After the tragic death of his wife and child Shane has problems forgiving himself for being unable to protect and save them. He suddenly has to return to his childhood home to help when his father has a heart attack. Bellamy was his high school sweetheart. They were once inseparable, until Shane decided to go away to college and ended up married to someone else. Now he has retuned and they are thrown together because his father has promised to do some renovations at Bellamy's home. Sparks fly. Will their renewed acquaintance lead to a renewed love? I enjoyed this read and gave this sweetly sexy novella 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development. I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from Hidden Gems to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Out of the Fire by Casey Hagen is a story of love rekindled, in more ways than one. Bellamy is 30, a successful photographer in small-town St. Helena, and still single after the love of her high school life went away to college and never came back. Shane left Bellamy and St Helena behind to attend college out of state. He became an architect in Los Angeles, fell in love and married Laura, and had a son, Jason. Laura and Jason died tragically in a house fire, and Shane stayed frozen in grief, unable to mourn his his lost wife and son, and unable to move on with his life. When his contractor father back in St. Helena has a heart attack, Shane moves back and takes over for his dad. HIs first job? Enclose Bellamy's screened porch. Their desire for each other re-ignites, but Shane's inability to deal with his emotions and his fear of loss lead him to sabotage the relationship despite the spectacular sex and their undeniable attachment to each other. Bellamy has to deal with her own issues of rejection and hurt, but she's a grounded and emotionally healthy woman whose heart has room for Shane, for the memory of his dead wife and son, and the love he still feels for them. She's woman enough to love, forgive, understand - and to tell Shane to go away, decide what he really wants, and come back when and if he's ready for love again. Hagen's writing is a joy to read. Her narrative is smooth and conveys all the essential details with minimum verbiage. Her dialogue is natural and expresses her characters perfectly. Bellamy is as real and as admirable as any contemporary romance heroine I've read. I had some issues with Shane, whose emotions at times seemed at odds with his behavior, but Hagen has him sorted out by the end of the novella and the ending felt genuine. It's a short novella, an easy and absorbing read, and second-chance romance fans will love it.

4+ Stars! This is the second story I've read by Casey Hagen and I'm quickly becoming a big fan. Although I prefer the slower burn and increased details of a longer novel, this author does a wonderful job at packing in as much as she can in a novella-length story. I was given a copy of this to review. I was glad that I read this. Yes it was short but it was still very good. It was deep and yet nice. I love second chance romances too. It was nice that after all that time they could get to be together again. I loved how Bellamy was there for Shane. She understood and never pushed him. It was exactly what he needed. Seeing as there are more stories from this town. I will have to check them out.

This is such a touching book. Shane McGovern is suffering a broken heart. He lost his wife and son in a fire. He has been in a fog of pain for two years. He has to return to his hometown to help his Dad and he’s thrown back in time to his first love Bellamy Stone. This is a book about healing and true love that never died. I received an early copy to read and review. I really loved this story. There is lots of emotion and humor to take the edge off. I loved it and recommend it.
