Overall I enjoyed this book however I didn’t read it over 12 months as it’s meant to be done. I’m not sure I would remember to back to it each month to be honest! I think you really have to commit if you want to complete each of the months properly and although I am introducing self care changes in to my life, I prefer to focus on the ones I feel are easiest and most beneficial for me. I also found some chapters more relevant than other as some chapters covered topics I’ve already addressed and improved in my life (not a complaint about the book in any way!) I do think this book it more for an entire lifestyle revamp. One of the things the book recommends which would like try at some point is practising meditation for a month as I have always been somewhat sceptical about whether it actually works. It’s definitely worth a read but I’m not sure I’d ever follow a book over 12 months.

Terribly boring with no real benefits. I read this book bit by bit, though not over a year as suggested, and only because it was so dull and boring. Much of it was saying very duh stuff that people already know like put your gadgets away, eat clean, love yourself, have daily affirmations. There aren't any real tips that go beyond what every other self-help book preaches, outstanding illustrations or compelling real-life case studies. Picked this up from the library because the table of contents lo Terribly boring with no real benefits. For someone who isn't on the looking after themselves ladder yet, this is a great book. Starts at rung 1 - your diet. Moves month by month through managing stress, dealing with anxiety, improving self-esteem, etc. I've already gone through all of these topics so it wasn't quite what I was looking for - but it looks like it would be really helpful if you need to be better cared for and don't know where to start. This is an adequate beginner guide to self care. However, the information is basic and shallow; the book is essentially a compilation of commonly touted self care tips. I did find the first month - mindful eating - to be useful, though the rest of the book was a wash.
