Despite its sincere tone (and a wicked lenticular ad of the Shadow of War game) that sets Superman apart from being just a superstrong alien, Action Comics 990's simplistic dialogue and predictable tropes offer only a bit of entertainment and more of the generic morality and god-complex comics themes that we have seen for the umphteenth time already. Oz is here to prove a point that mankind does not deserve a Superman by showing Big Blue the true nature of man. Oz is here to prove a point that mankind does not deserve a Superman by showing Big Blue the true nature of man. Okay, I just want to point out two things here. First, Clark already knows such horrors Earth people can do. Oz does not need to remind him about that. Second, how can Oz be able to convince Superman about his ideals when he himself is the cause of all the chaos? So finally, his true motives are also revealed in this issue, teasing something about the Doomsday Clock. Frankly, I feel that this Oz Effect is an unnecessary teaser, wasting a reveal and a character that could be made way, way more interesting than how he is handled in the current storyline. The Oz buildup story and its eventual reveal were highly anticipated in DC Rebirth. It is just sad to see how he is treated in Action Comics. I hope to see some redeeming elements in the last issue of the arc.

A little melodramatic, but I’m interested to see where this goes.

The Oz Effect, Part 4. Did not really add anything to the overall storyline. Wonder how long this story will go on until we find out the truth behind Oz (or Jorel)?

I'm more accepting of this arc now, but I'm still not really digging it. Aside from my initial issues, this one seemed to have some overly simplistic dialogue and most scenes feel kind of predictable. It could end on a high note, though. I'm hopeful.
