Although not my usual genre, this has to be one of the best books I have read in a long time. This is historical fiction, with a touch of romance thrown in, about one of the darker time in America's history, the internment of those of Japanese descent during WWII. The story is told from the point of view of an American boy and Japanese girl who had connected before Pearl Harbor and highlights the challenges each of them face during that time of internment. There is much there that is hard to read Although not my usual genre, this has to be one of the best books I have read in a long time. There is much there that is hard to read in the descriptions of how the U.S. treated its citizens of Japanese descent but also good in the way that at least some American's responded. One can only hope that all America will work to prevent such a thing from ever happening again. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone wondering about this period of history. The fact that it is very well written and a great story in its own right is wonderful bonus.

Jesse Sommers likes a Japanese girl, Keiko Yoshida. Pearl Harbor is attacked and everything changes. Keiko and her family are removed to a detention camp. What a moving story, one we should never forget. Fear of the coronavirus is spreading across the world and things are happening because of that fear. Fear trampled the freedom of the American Japanese after Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Empire. Because of fear, American leaders did horrible things. Great story.

Eye opening history on America's treatment of a culture. Not unlike Hitler's treatment of the Jews. Excellent research. Seeing it through a young Japanese girl's eyes. I t kept me reading to the end. Wonderful book I was 7yrs when the war started. We had enternment near our town and several of my brothers friends were taken there. It was so sad, but interesting as to what happened to these Japanese people who were born in America.

A wonderful book This was a wonderful, wonderful book. Thank you, John, for writing it. It’s so important we know our country’s history.

Probably should have been described as a YA book, found it superficial and vague.

Good Simplistic in writing style, but the story was still good. It flowed well, and was an easy fast read. Ok
