Somebody's going to get a beating, and I know who it is. In the second book to the Matte's arc, Sam struggles with the rules she set up with Ethan. From a character perspective, I don't like Sam anymore. I still like Ethan even though the first third of the book, I wanted to kick his ass. (Okay, we all know there is no way I could kick his ass since he's a fighter, but you know what I'm saying.) This book has me conflicted because the beginning of the book is emotionless and too clinical for me. Somebody's going to get a beating, and I know who it is. I still like Ethan even though the first third of the book, I wanted to kick his ass. (Okay, we all know there is no way I could kick his ass since he's a fighter, but you know what I'm saying.) This book has me conflicted because the beginning of the book is emotionless and too clinical for me. It comes across as an anal training 201 book. Since the title is "in training", it makes sense. For me, it's a bit too dull even though it is necessary. It sets up for the next book. Sam really struggles in this book. She struggles against Ethan and his training. For the most part of this book, it's a power struggle instead of an erotic power exchange. This never goes well for me. I don't like reading this type of situation. Does it happen? Of course it does and when two people are so strong in this manner, it is realistic. I just don't like it. I feel bad for Ethan. He's doing what he can for Sam because of what they both wanted. She's not holding up her end of the bargain. In addition, she lashes out at him in a way that really pissed me off. I've walked on eggshells around a guy before and it's not fun. Ethan has to do this around Sam and I feel bad for him. There is a scene in here which may be controversial for some. I am going to probably take an unpopular stance. Sam had it coming. She could have avoided all of this if she just didn't have Ethan come over. She doesn't communicate well enough for such a mouthy wench. Ms. Blevins does an excellent job of showing both sides of the story. Even if I don't like how it happened, I understand why it happened and it does help show conflict between the two characters. It also shows there is lack of trust in this relationship. Without trust, how can the D/s work? It can't. So they better start communicating with each other and getting the trust back, or this is just going to go sideways. In this book there is also discussion around a contract. Not many books go into this kind of detail. Ms. Blevins is known for contracts so it didn't surprise me. I liked it. Another thing I can always count on with Ms. Blevins is the intense BDSM. The sex and BDSM punishment scenes in this book is hawt! I really enjoyed it. Then again, I'm an anal loving slut. The last third of the book is when it really gets good for me. We start to see more emotion and connection between Sam and Ethan. The family members start to appear and there is the bachelorette party. I liked it. I really like the transgender person in this story. HAWT! Then again I'm pansexual so it's cool for me. I go with the flow with gender fluidity. The other topic brought up is racism which I find amusing. It's not so much racism as racial prejudice. Sam's response to it is not that bad, but still uncalled for in my book. I think it's because I can see it from both sides. Plus, being Chinese, I see prejudices more frequently - from both sides. Then ending of this book makes me yearn to read the next one. So off I go to read the next book. Ms. Blevins crafts a delightful book with flawed characters, intense anal training and exacting SM. Recommended for BDSM readers who want a bird's eye view in how TPE can be in real life.

My bottom line for why I didn't like Safeword: Quinacridone was because it seemed like she was just going for shock value rather than telling me a story. I still think her storytelling skills need improvement, but this is moving in the right direction overall. Sam and Ethan are engaged and in a D/s relationship heavily weighted in sadomasochism. It's abundantly clear that Ms. Blevins is in the lifestyle from the writing alone. I have no issues with the kink depicted, but the way it's depicted is where I think needs improvement. There's loads of telling and very little showing of their connection. The scenes and the vast majority of book as a whole are told through Sam's eyes and it's clear she fears Ethan-appropriately, I'm not talking abuse here-and respects him and occasionally her attraction to him is well portrayed, but by and large, I didn't feel it. Another reason I like BDSM reads is the psychology of scenes, what each party is getting out of it. Mostly what I got here was Sam bracing herself for impact. I'd say the first 50% felt almost clinical what with the spreadsheets and contract talk and punishments and measuring. The second half made strides towards showing them as a couple and selling me more on them as a couple in love and on the cusp of marriage. It's told primarily from Sam's perspective. Sam would make for an interesting case study. I'd say from the way she fights Ethan tooth and nail for her submission that she's uncomfortable with this side of her personality. I'm pretty sure she equates it with weakness and associates it with her mother with whom she's got a love/hate relationship. She seems almost desperate to prove herself as an independent, self-sufficient woman to the detriment of her relationship with Ethan. She keeps pushing him towards a RACK relationship yet used her safeword or thinks of using her safeword pretty often, not to mention the whole shower thing and its aftermath. Seriously? WTF? Most of the time she's pretty insightful but every once in a while it's like a switch flips and she goes off the rails which at times felt organic and others felt inconsistent with her characterization. The kink is intense. If you're a neophyte, I wouldn't suggest starting here. Sam's anal training… sheesh, she's very bendy and athletic which she needs to be to keep up with the duration an intensity of their scenes. She's in training to take Ethan's monster cock on their honeymoon. There's no shortage of scenes and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite but that spiderweb deal was exceptional as was the splits thing on the chairs. Ethan is a sadist and a fan of genitorture and he's inventive. *eyebrow waggle* The dialogue is where the book bogs down for me. It's stilted and sometimes feels forced. It's a slice of life tale so I expect some daily life minutiae but not this much. I mean, loading the dishwasher? Please don't. Most of the conversations between Ethan and Same were so focused on contracts and negotiations that it hindered their relationship development stealing their vibrancy and making them seem flat. The conversations between all the characters are dry. I like mature characters and realistic situations but it needs some oomph. I did like some of the secondary characters introduced. They show promise and had me wondering if they will appear later on in the series. I think I'm invested in this couple or maybe I just want to read about her actually taking the monster cock and/or the kink. I'm not sure, but I am moving directly into the sequel. I just hope there's more relationship development and by "relationship development" I mean romance and less contract negotiations.

I enjoyed the continuation of uber sadist Ethan, and his submissive Sam's story. I will be the first to admit, I did not even read the description or blurb for this. I was expecting something completely different. I suppose when I read the title of " Matte: In Training", I had unrealized preconceived notions of what the book may consist of. Would we learn of Evan's journey to become a Dominant? Would it be the conflict of independent Samantha's lawyer by day, masochist and submissive by night, lifestyle? They are both martial arts experts and she, a national champion, would the book center around that? Training of what?? Of all the possibilities, my mind never guessed the training would be for Sam's ass to accept Master Evan's unbelievably giant cock. It is so massive, it is disproportionate to his huge, cage fighter body. This is a dick that I'd love to see. The detailed training was nothing less than a well oiled battle plan. I have seen athletes prepare less for matches, overachievers less for final exams. It should be an unforgettable honeymoon when the continuation is released. Woven through the intense training for their honeymoon, is the underlying relationship as Master Evan and Sam take their journey toward and to matrimony. Of course, there are small obstacles as their big day approaches, but ultimately they happily tie the knot. For "Safeword" fans, reading this book is probably a no brainier. It's a well written, light, and easy read, with steamy sex. Was it a little over the top with certain details? Maybe. But I enjoyed every second of it. Luckily for me, I find it highly erotic to read about anal sex. ( and training in this case) If you don't, I may would skip this one. The measurements are in, and the calculations are tallied. Will their honeymoon be everything they have prepared and hoped for? We shall see in " Matte: The Honeymoon." (Release date August 1)

This was a great story featuring Sam and Ethan again (both from "Safeword Matte"). They are now getting married but before the wedding, Ethan is training Sam to prepare for the honeymoon. This book was basically one long scene (as Sam was being trained) with other scenes mixed in. I am eagerly awaiting the next book!

This is a 4.5 for me, really... I am a big fan if the Safeword series. It describes relationships very different from mine, but I am fascinated with the power exchange dynamic and Ms. Blevins provides me with details and explanations that allow me to stretch my boundaries and think about sexuality in new ways I might not otherwise have been able to approach. This book is not a stand-alone, the relationship between Sam and Ethan is developed in Safeword: Matte and was a smoking hot story which should be read first. Also, the reason for the necessity of the anal training is covered there. Early in the book there is a great deal of time spent laying out the specifics of the various components of the anal training process – I was a little worried at the complexity of it, but I was also fascinated, as I could not have imagined this level of detail (being a jump in and see how it goes kind of woman, lol) and it was important to understand the various training activities, so the punishments (oh, and you KNOW there will be punishments!) make sense. I love Sam’s struggle with her need to be dominated, her desire for the power exchange and her absolute need to fight the constraints she desires. She is a wonderfully strong woman and Ms. Blevins has given her the perfect foil in Ethan, who is more than equal to the challenge. All the events leading up to the wedding – the bachelorette party, the meeting of the families, the dressing for the wedding, are all colored slightly differently, as befits the relationship dynamic. The only one I had quibbles with was around the meeting of Sam & Ethan’s families – I felt that Sam’s character would have been more open in her communications earlier than occurred in the book. I love the details on negotiating the contracts; the trust built into Ms. Blevin’s relationships is what draws me in. Oh, and the sex and punishment scenes, which are “wet panties” stuff of dreams …yeah, that draws me in, as well… I totally enjoyed this book, Blevins is an auto-buy for me, so if you haven’t read Safeword: Matte, pick it up too and carve out some uninterrupted time for a hot read. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Safeword: Matte – In Training by Candace Blevins offers a fascinating look into a BDSM relationship that you don’t often see. Yet no matter how I felt, I couldn’t turn away; I couldn’t put the book down. Safeword: Matte – In Training is not for the faint of heart, but if you’ve got the fortitude to go for it, I guarantee you the ride of your life. Sam and Ethan are going to be married in a few months. Ethan has plans for his submissive and their honeymoon. But these plans require some training, and Ethan has come up with a detailed plan involving weekly goals. If Sam meets the weekly goals then there are amazing rewards, but there are also some seriously painful punishments for not meeting them. In addition, Sam is dealing with some difficult clients and learning to merge her life with Ethan’s. While some may focus on the sadism/masochism aspect of the story, it was the relationship between the leads that pulled me in almost immediately. Sam and Ethan have an amazing relationship. Their communication is impressive and I particularly admired the negotiation scenes. Their relationship was so authentic that it reminded me of my own marriage (without the steel cane). I laughed out loud reading their negotiations over loading the dishwasher and admired their compromise on finances. Relationships are hard work and Ms. Blevins showcased that expertly. Sam and Ethan’s chemistry is fierce and I found myself getting aroused just from their connection. In fact, I was surprised at how aroused I became during the sex scenes considering the amount of pain Ethan was giving Sam. But the love between the two was so obvious and everything was done from the love they have for each other; I couldn’t help but be affected by that type of devoted relationship. Ms. Blevins treated the subject of sadism/masochism and Domination/submission with dignity and respect. She showed how much work is involved in this type of relationship and what is needed from both partners in order to keep it from crossing the line into abuse. Submitting to Ethan did not make Sam weak, and I appreciated that Ms. Blevins avoided stereotypes. Ethan is a sadist, but he is also a loving, caring man who keeps his beloved fiancée in mind with every slash of the cane. We first met Sam and Ethan in Ms. Blevin’s Safeword: Matte but I hadn’t read that book and yet had no difficulty following along. Of course, now I’m super curious as to how they began their relationship and will just need to go back and read it. And while you’re waiting for the next installment in Sam and Ethan’s story – No Safeword: Matte – The Honeymoon – there are several other books in Ms. Blevin’s Safeword series to happily while away the time.

Reread Safeword Matte before reading this. Enjoyed the story, I like how Ms Blevins makes it very realistic but on the downside I often found it hard to feel any emotion between the two MCs. Sometimes the reading was very clinical and emotionally flat, thankfully that got better as the book went on. Looking forward to the next book and wouldn't mind hearing more how the transgender person gets on. Reread Safeword Matte before reading this. I still disagree that if they aren't wanting sex and it is forced on them it is rape if he doesn't at least get her ready. I think a lot of this book was more than was needed we didn't need to keep reading about contracts. It's like the author was dragging it along when a lot of the scening could have just let us know the results and not take as many books to get to the story. This one just ends and we have to read yet another book I imagine has way more scenes than needed. I wanted to know how her case with the Mastersons went but we were left hanging. I'm sure he lost since he was in jail but still I want to see it after making it so much a part of the book.

Serious BDSM If you're looking for some heavy BDSM, then this series is for you. Whilst Sam and Ethan appear to have the perfect relationship for them, I almost found it too much. I am familiar with the D/s dynamic, but some of the BDSM scenes were treading a fine line into the abuse area. This also gave me the same feeling with the punishments. It also reads and flows well. This is not for those looking for a sexy read or light BDSM.

Are you ready for some kink? This book is a good deal of one scene after another. The "training" is explained in detail. The need for such training is also explained in detail, although it was mentioned in the first Matte book. A lot of "training" happens in this story with snippets of real life. Interesting mix. 4.2 Ethan is training Sam to take him in all aspects. While Sam still struggles to except Ethan as a Master. I think Sam needs more of a topper than someone who wants to control her. She only want to submit during play and the bedroom, while Ethan is a sadist and wants to punish and torture for consequences.

So, after the most romantic (as romantic as sadism can be ROLF) first book, the magical encounter, the chase and the grand finale, we are at the point where you see a progression of a relationship but with a HUGE bit of extra. And it's educational as well. Who would have guessed that anal sex can be so scientific, I would even dare and say mathematical !!! after reading this book you have a feeling like you just got an PHD in anal with the additional subject in S&M :) how cool !! - “I had no idea you’d be such a willful, stubborn, headstrong pain in the ass.” - Here you also have an example of a natural progression of a relationship with a extreme kink thrown in, and a HUGE appendix that doesn't make things easier. when a book finishes you often left to wonder what happens after ... well now you know. And guess what ?? even sadist get their feelings hurt *snicker*. But it's soooo adorable - " She’d looked for him all her life, and thanked her lucky stars they’d finally found each other." - After completing this book you have the feeling like just witnessing the Sadistic Olympics and you want MORE !!! It makes you see that trust is a tricky thing in normal relationships, let alone in full-force relationship such as this one. And I love that Candace touches the issue of the thin like between BDSM and abuse and how do people in the lifestyle see the issue. All in all it's a excellent book to read and learn something new (I'm willing to bet that you didn't know half of things you read in this book) and this has proven to you that book No. 3 will be even better !!!! Candace keep them coming :) (we sure will)

I love how upfront Ethan is about everything he wants from her. The chemistry between Ethan and Sam is blistering. Sam’s inability to communicate with Ethan when she either has an issue or is struggling, is going to turn into a bigger issue if she does not do anything about it. There were several times when I wondered if she was not really a sub at all, just a masochist. I loved that both Sam and Ethan worked hard to clear contracts about what is and is not acceptable within their sex life. The sex scenes were very hot and steamy. They could get very intense at times. Safeword Matte – In Training is the seventh book in the Safeword series by Candace Blevins and the sequel to Safeword Matte. This is one book that reading the prior book is a must to get a better feel for the characters. The extreme nature of the characters’ kink feels a bit weird if you don’t read the prior book. This book has a more clinical feel (due to the overall topic of the book) than is normally present in Ms. Blevins books. Overall, this was an interesting book. I cant wait to read the next book in this series and see where Sam and Ethan continue their story.

I would rate Safeword Matte: In Training four and a half stars. I did not like it as well as the initial book, but still enjoyed it overall. A good third of the book was dedicated to Ethan training Sam for anal sex. It got a little too clinical for me. Early parts of the book were dedicated almost entirely to the anal training and there was just not enough relationship drama to keep it interesting. For me, anal play is best when it is a side dish to other play. At least in the beginning anal play was the main course, side dishes and dessert. Sam’s training for Ethan’s super sized appendage left me very grateful for my husband’s more normal sized appendage. Once the focus shifted to the relationship later in the book it got a lot more interesting for me. Trust issues that arose in the first book carried over in to this book. This was especially true as one of Sam’s clients has her questioning the difference between sadism and abuse. Given the intensity of the relationship I can see this being a very real struggle. There were several times in the book where the intensity of play was such that I thought Ethan and Sam were actually kind of bad for each other. Family drama also became an issue in this book as Sam and Ethan prepare for the wedding and issues of race have to be addressed. Both families are very realistic southern families. Ethan’s large boisterous family is very similar to my own when all of the aunts, uncles and cousins come together. I think Sam’s parents are very much clones of my own parents. So many of the conversations that Sam had with her mom are almost identical to conversations I have had with my mom. Unfortunately, I think the issue of race that arose is also very realistic for a southern family. Overall I enjoyed this book, but it is not for the faint of heart. There is lots, and lots of anal play, and the one true punishment scene was incredibly intense.

Spoiler Ahead Read at your own Risk This was the six book in the "Safeword" series and the second book about Ethan and Sam as they plan their wedding and Ethan prepares her to take him anally on their honeymoon. I also liked how Ethan set up the schedule for Sam to follow and how if she didn't she would be punished and how as her Dom he had to keep his word and go through with it.Sam is also dealing with stress with her clients and her mother who didn't know that Ethan was of mixed race and how she told her mother that if she didn't accept it she would so her or any kids that she and Ethan may have. She also had to deal with a clients abusive husband who thought that he could intimidate her into forcing her to telling him where his wife was and how she beat the man up. In this book we also got to see when Sam first learned that Frisco was a Dom also and how he told her he was Bi but only played with men. This book had a few errors in it nothing big but toward the end Tyler became Travis and I had to go back to he and Viv's book to make sure I had it right. If you like reading about hardcore BDSM scene's than I recommend that you read this series it is hot and I am looking forward to reading the next book.

The only other book I’d read of this author was Safeword: Matte, however when I finished reading this one, I promptly went to my TBR list and crossed off all the other ones (I think I have one more in the series and I will have read all of them!). Sam and Ethan are getting married and he wants to engage in a special honeymoon activity, however, she needs to be trained to do it, with lots of rewards if she is able to reach the target each week or punishment if not. Throw in some testy clients that Sam is working for, family’s prejudices, the bachelorette party…wow this makes for lots of drama. I can see the love they have for each other, such strong chemistry that makes the pages sizzle and leaves you a bit hot and bothered. The author’s details are amazing, I could totally see the scenes in my head. I am waiting for the next phase, The Honeymoon, can’t wait to read about it and experience if only through such intense words that I know the author will create. *I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review This is part 2 to Sam and Ethan’s story. I was a little conflicted during this book, as it seemed to be very much about the training and almost clinically so. I was yearning for some more emotion. I wanted to feel more of what they were feeling in their hearts, not just the training stuff. That did come towards that last 1/3 of the book and it satiated my need for that emotional connection. So Sam and Ethan are training Sam to accept his very large penis (I would love to see this thing) on their honeymoon in her ass. Holy Crap – the detail during this training had me at one moment cringing and the other turned on. Let us not forget, this is not just about them getting married and training her, but it also about Ethan’s needs as a dominant and boy does he know how to exact punishment. The contract negotiations seemed a little awkward to me, but maybe they would be. I preferred the first part of their story - Safeword Matte, but I still rate this 4 stars. Ms. Blevins sucked me in towards the end and gave me what I wanted. Bravo.

I read some reviews before I read this story, which I usually don't do because I like to have a clear mind when I read. It put me off reading it a little, but I finally picked it up. I didn't have the same problems that other reviews had with the technical stuff. It only dragged for about 5% until I saw where it was going, and then I was completely hooked. It wasn't the best story I've read by Candace Blevins but it was still quality. A few issues I had were mostly based around Sam's reaction to her client. This disturbed me because it leaned into victim blaming, which I don't enjoy. I struggled to sympathise with Sam's feelings about this, as the information she recited is not actually how most abuse cases start. There is no mention of the grooming process that narcissists use to suck their victims in and keep them dependent. I could have used more details surrounding the enema scenes. That would have raised the heat level for me. The heavy impact scenes were hot, especially the dungeon 'reveal' scene. A good solid storyline, with clear intent to continue into the next story, and briefly touching on future characters, which is exciting.

To understand the need for this book you should read the first one. i promise that if you enjoy the subjects in the headline, you Will enjoy them! To prepare for their Honeymoon there is much Training to be done. Ethan's c**k is scarily humongous!! In order to fit, much stretching has to happen. Ms. Blevins does it correctly, everything written could & does happen. i've watched many scenes with similar activities. It's how i was able to get lost in & enjoy reading, even tho it's not my level of kink. The love & romance mixed together with S/m is wonderful. On to the Honeymoon! Enjoy!

After reading the Safeword: Matte I thought I knew what to expect but this book was so much more. I really got to watch the characters blossom and grow not only on their own but as a couple as well. I thought that the continuation of the story brought the reader more into the relation and let someone who isn’t quite vanilla understand the fetish a lot more. The heat factor for this one is turned up a notch or two and made me need an ice tea to go with my fanning. The author made me see that while their fetish is strong it brings them closer and that the element of trust that is required in this kind of relationship is exceptional. I was wrapped inside a word inferno and look forward to getting to know more with the next books in this series. Again I would recommend this series to those that are okay with extreme fetish that isn’t drowning in hearts and flowers but has a different kind of love and respect. I loved this series and how it opened my eyes to a different kind of love.

The relationship between Ethan and Sam grows stronger, and dang is it hot. "What is it about hurting you that makes me just want to hurt you more?” Even though Sam is a masochist and submissive, handing over control of her body and free will to another has its struggles. I want you to watch me take it off and wrap it around my hand. I want you to watch me raise my arm and bring it down, and lay still while it’s coming at you. You don’t get to look away, Samantha.”

Sam and Ethan are getting married and Ethan is helping Sam plan for a " special" honeymoon. Sam has her hands full with all the rules for her prep for the after wedding celebration and work. Again this book was a bit more then I really liked. As I commented in the 1st book the author is great explaining in detail of what's going on and how things work. The story is well written and and plays out smoothly. I would rate this book 3 *Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that rock* Sam and Ethan are getting married and Ethan is helping Sam plan for a " special" honeymoon. Now we are back to Sam and Ethan ... and lots of pain and owies, and I can't EVER imagine reacting to him like she did in the shower ... I don't know when I'd sit down again!! She is obviously struggling with some stuff, and honestly, I think they need to do more talking about it than they do, but hey, that's JMO. This was a painful read - seemed like it took forever to get through. My main issue is that it was written so clinically. Their relationship felt transactional too - I just couldn't connect with them at all. This was a painful read - seemed like it took forever to get through.
