Cursed at First Sight: A Witchy Cozy Mystery (Cursed Coven Cozies Book 1) by Daphne DeWitt is a unique look at witches. These witches have issues, lol. They are a big family of witches and each have a different curse. It is funny how it works in the story. Malady, our witch and lawyer of the story, is trying to help a friend in town where he is accused of murder. He might have been 'spelled' to commit the murder. I enjoyed this story and found this type on new witch story refreshing and a hoot at times. Great job!

(Goodreads) Review: The characters are well developed and well rounded. I so enjoyed getting to meet the Norwood’s and getting to spend some time with them. They are a family of witches who happened to be cursed. Each member of the family has their own personal curse and each one thinks theirs is the worst. From turning into a bird to being not being able to fall in love without disaster striking and so much more, they each try to handle their curses as best they can. All of the characters were quirky and crazy and I loved it. Spending time with the family was a delight and very funny. In fact, from the first page there was so much humor contained in this book. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery is well plotted and it was very difficult for Malady (and me) to figure out who the culprit was. Whenever she thought she had it figured out, she ran into a dead end. But that did not stop her from pursuing any lead and question every suspect. She is nothing if not persistent. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy paranormal. With great characters, plenty of humor and a difficult murder to solve you could not ask for anything more. I am looking forward to having the next book released, I cannot wait to read it.

Every Norwood witch has a curse, and Malady’s is the worst one in the family. She can’t fall in love or be close to feeling in love without causing some disaster to the people she cares about. Over the years, Malady has come to terms with her curse and has learned to control it, for the most part. As long as she suppresses her happiness, everything should be fine. Suddenly, there’s a murder in town. Her old school nemesis has been thrown off a building and her old school crush (her first love) is the prime suspect, who claims that he remembers nothing and, somehow, he felt compelled to be with the victim. Like he was under some kind of spell. Naturally, Malady suspect magical foul play and sets off to prove his innocence. The Norwood witches were an odd bunch with lovable eccentricities, each with their own curse. I mean, we have twins that share a voice, a brother trapped in bodies of winged creatures, and a sister that’s just too perfect all the time. It was fun to read about them. Story had witches, clairvoyants, and ghost whisperers. A charming mystery!

Ms. DeWitt is a fairly new author and is fast becoming one of my favorite in the cozy genre. I have always loved cozy paranormal mysteries because they are just so much fun to read. I’m happy to say this first book in a new series is just as fun as I had hoped. Even the characters outside of Malady’s family were interesting and really jumped off the pages as well. If you’ve ever lived in a small town, each character reminds you of someone. Ms. DeWitt’s wonderful writing style and unique plots are a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. If you like cozy paranormals, give this one a try! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Grab this book if you love cozy mysteries that are a blast to read. Well written, it grabbed me from the beginning and before I knew it I was done. Daphne DeWitt has a delightfully wicked sense of humour...and it is expertly woven into every page of this compelling read. My face hurts from smiling! The development of the characters in this quirky coven seemed effortless; the dialogue was smooth and tight. The relationship amongst the siblings was just as you'd imagine...love/hate. Her use of descriptive imagery made me feel as though I were there. This was my first time reading her work, and I will definitely read more, and recommend this b Daphne DeWitt has a delightfully wicked sense of humour...and it is expertly woven into every page of this compelling read. Good cozy This is a little better than average cozy and its witches are a little different as well. This family has been cursed and each member has a different curse to keep it interesting. The mystery was entertaining right up to the last but I found the solution just a hair unbelievable, though not beyond belief. I'm any case, it was fun to read.
