I've read many going-to-Kindergarten stories, but this is one of my favorites. Lessons are taught through a group of fun little fairies. I've read many going-to-Kindergarten stories, but this is one of my favorites. Lessons are taught through a group of fun little fairies.

“Fairy’s First Day of School” is a fairytale about a fairy named Fairy and her mother explaining what will happen on her first day of school. The mother begins explains how much fun Fairy will have when making new friends and learning during centers. Throughout the book, the mother is the narrator and explains to Fairy certain instances that may occur such as being too shy to make friends and taking a nap after recess. A lot of the book is also her mother giving her motherly advice on what to do “Fairy’s First Day of School” is a fairytale about a fairy named Fairy and her mother explaining what will happen on her first day of school. The mother begins explains how much fun Fairy will have when making new friends and learning during centers. Throughout the book, the mother is the narrator and explains to Fairy certain instances that may occur such as being too shy to make friends and taking a nap after recess. A lot of the book is also her mother giving her motherly advice on what to do at school. For instance, the mother suggests to Fairy to not talk loudly or fly quickly while indoors. In the end, Fairy enjoyed her first day of school by completing all of the tasks that her mom said that she would. The theme of “Fairy’s First Day of School” is positivity. I think that positivity is the theme in this book, because Fairy is very nervous in the beginning of the story to go to her first day of school, but in the end is excited to return to school the next day. I personally found this story to be very relatable, especially putting myself back into a kindergartner’s shoes. This book emphasized typical school-like concepts that a child could relate to but put a twist on it so it would be from Fairy’s perspective. For example, the author used a bird as a school bus but called it a “schoolbird,” to relate to students, which I found very fun and creative. This book also made me feel like a little kid again going to my first day of school, which I really enjoyed. I would recommend this book for parents of young students going to their first day of school. For instance, I think that kindergartners and first graders would relate most to this book because of the school bus example, but also because the mother in the book gives advice that a child could understand, similar to telling Fairy to remember to stay quiet while in the classroom.

Here I was judging this book by its cover and rolling my eyes as I began to read it... and then I was totally charmed by it! The author describes so many fun details about fairy school, such as tooth counting and acorn ball, that the illustrator was able to include in her pictures. It reminded me of being a young girl and reading The Littles or any number of books where I wished I was small and could walk on a cobweb or sit on a toadstool. I would've loved to disappear into this book back then, Here I was judging this book by its cover and rolling my eyes as I began to read it... and then I was totally charmed by it! Thanks to #kidlitexchange for sharing a review copy of this book! If you have a little one getting ready to start school~ Fairy’s First Day of School is an adorable new book! Children will feel better knowing fairies have first days of school too! You can see the first day in Fairyland is similar to yours! The illustrations are very detailed. We noticed new things each time we read! Our favorite part was Show and Tell. Fairies bring in their favorite ‘Teddybug.’

Thanks to the Kid Lit Exchange for the review copy. All opinions are my own. Fairies have first days, too! This clever new picture book eases kids' minds about the first day of school by describing how it works in fairyland. It's sprinkled with cute ideas like sitting "cross-cross berrysauce," bringing your favorite "teddybug" for show-and-tell, feeding the class firefly. A nice twist on a topic that comes up every year! A very endearing book with gorgeous illustrations. A wonderful book to read to young students on the first day of school. Each page is bright and almost full page of illustrations. Students will have a fun time pointing out what is happening on each page.

Wonderful back-to-school tale for fairy fans. The kids enjoyed this one, and we loved the "fairy" twists on the typical back-to-school day - the school bird, the teeth center etc... It's a young Fairy's first day of school, and all the things and activities she will do is explained in this colorful picture book. It's very similar to human school, with a few exceptions. A cute 'first day of school book' for little fairies (and girls and boys). Most of the references are clearly a younger grade classroom so I would likely just read this with K-1 (maybe 2?).
