Rating 3.5 I've been a big fan of Chloe's ever since I saw her win Cupcake Wars on Food Network so long ago. Being the first vegan chef on that show and to win it. Frankly, I would have a been a fan even if she didn't win. I had followed her early blog and made a few recipes from it. She was a *go to* cookbook author for me that I would buy her cookbooks, an advanced purchase, sight unseen. Just because they were hers. I have them all and love them, but think the Italian one is my favorite. But f Rating 3.5 I've been a big fan of Chloe's ever since I saw her win Cupcake Wars on Food Network so long ago. She was a *go to* cookbook author for me that I would buy her cookbooks, an advanced purchase, sight unseen. Just because they were hers. I have them all and love them, but think the Italian one is my favorite. But for this one, I hesitated. Think it was more of a 'You have no more room for books in the house' kinda thing. Anyway, I grabbed this from my library getting the first copy, ran home (probably thinking 'my precious' all the way home) and dug into it. But in the end....it was just OK for me. I was not wow'ed by it. The book has sections for breakfast & brunch, snacks and sides, soups and salads, sandwiches, burgers & tacos, noodles & pasta, bowls & plated dishes, cocktails, smoothies & drinks, and finally dessert. She first starts out about her path to veganism and her restaurant (arrggh, I can't even go here). She discusses the vegan pantry and gets right into the recipes. I'm not sure what I expected here but I didn't have too many that jumped out at me. Now, lets get to the positives....all recipes are easy to make, have good all-natural ingredients, no faux processed meats/cheeses, many have gorgeous photos to go with them. She's also cut down of photos of herself in the book. (Seriously, her early book was insane, more photos of her than food, ha!) On the food - recipes for things like croutons, sour cream, vegan parm - no store bought items here. There were some inventive recipes such as Pesto Beet Burgers with Pickled Red Onions, Coconut falafel sliders with Mango Salsa, and Chocolate Bourbon Walnut Pie. OK, so what I didn't like....seemed like a number of recycled recipes from her previous books or just one ingredient changed from the original recipe, too many odd basics such as avocado toast, tomato toast, grilled corn, nachos, and others. I also had a big issue with her 'pad thai' recipe which uses apricot jam. (OK, I am a pad thai JUNKIE. I eat it any chance I get. Found an awesome vegan recipe that I just adore. Had the best pad thai at a street cart in Thailand and nothing will ever top that, so I'm hard to please here. But pad thai requires tamarind for that specific flavor, and it's not pad thai with apricot jam. OK, rant off.) She also has quite the love for vegan butter which is used heavily in many recipes and it appears a new love for sriracha which is also in so many recipes. Now, this book is great for people who are new to veganism and want to get started with basic, simple recipes but kick it up a notch here and there. You can make a complete meal from starter, to main, and dessert all from this book. For me, I think I had just such high expectations. And because I have her others books and use them so often, I think I was able to notice more those recycled recipes. I don't think I would cook much from this one but would continue to use her Italian cookbook. But for now, off to get bourbon for that chocolate bourbon walnut pie.

A beautiful production and one Chloe Cascarelli can be proud of. Nothing like spicing up your vegan. The problem I had with her recipes was all the added sugar she uses. Not good. Not healthy. Nice book to look at, but not much help in the cooking category, at least for someone like me who restricts sugar intake to only what can be had by eating whole foods.

I’m not a vegan but my family and I are working our way to a more plant-based diet. That’s why this book interested me. I liked that she starts by talking about her journey to vegan. She is a vegan chef who is committed to her craft. Opened a restaurant in New York City. She set out to prove that “animals don’t need to suffer in order for humans to eat tasty, flavorful meals.” Her favorite quote is “Stand up for what you believe in, even if you are standing alone.” “She has personally tested and I’m not a vegan but my family and I are working our way to a more plant-based diet. The Chef breaks the book down into these headings: Breakfast and Brunch, Snacks and sides, Soups and Salads, Sandwiches, Burgers and tacos, Noodles and Pasta, Bowls and Plated dishes, Cocktails, smoothies and drinks and desserts. She first lists ingredients how they taste, how they can be used and what flavor they can add to your meals. Many of the recipes have beautiful color pictures. She lists the servicing size on the top. The ingredients are listed on the right-hand side of a description of the dish and clearly written instructions. Some recipes have a few ingredients. Others have many. Most of the ingredients can easily be found in the grocery store. The recipes I’m looking forward to trying are Matcha Chocolate Chip Muffin, Corn Carbonara, Vegan Parmesan toast, Butternut Mac, Chocolate-avocado cupcakes, Everything cookie. There are so many others, including the Beet Fettuccine Alfredo with Basil Ricotta. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Blogging for books site. I loved Chloe’s 1st cookbook and bought this one online without looking at it first. So far it’s pretty good. I will definitely use more recipes from this book than her 1st one. I have 3 complaints though. First I wish there were more pictures. Second I could leave the chapter on drinks and just have more main recipes. And finally there is a recipe in her 1st book that my husband and I love. I bought this cookbook thinking it was about cooking vegetarian food and not vegan. I should have paid more attention to the words on the cover! Vegan means my favorite food group, cheese, is missing from the recipes. Oh, the horror! After reading through it, I will definitely try several of her recipes though. I’m interested in her vegan mac n cheese and eggless breakfast scrambles. Chloe’s notes on each recipe are fun to read. Not all of the recipes have pictures which is why it’s not 5 stars. Great recipes. And lots of recipes I want to try. Unique take on being vegan. I love that she included a thanksgiving recipe for sweet potatoes. That will help win over the vegan haters. Her colleagues at NBC loved it. And another holiday recipe. You rarely see that in other vegan cookbooks. My only complaint is that the dessert section has a lot of recipes that call for 1C of butter or vegetable oil. Vegan butter or not, I prefer other substitutes like flax seed meal or applesauce. I read Chloe's first book and fell in love with the recipes. This book is a wonderful addition to my Vegan cookbook library. There are so many delicious recipes that it is hard to decide where to begin. The photography is beautiful as well. Even if you aren't Vegan, this book would be handy for eating healthier and incorporating more plant based recipes into your life. You will not be missing meat if you try these recipes! Great recipe book for someone trying to covert over to a plant based diet without giving up their familiar comfort foods or trying to cook for vegan family/friends and still please those that are used to a standard American diet.

Every recipe that I have tried so far works; every. single. one. - I have quite the library of cookbooks which I keep for just a handful of recipes each and most I have had to edit or change for my tastes. With all of the recipes I have tried so far in this book working for me (no edits!), "Chloe Flavor" is quickly becoming my favorite cookbook. I'm transitioning to the vegan diet and these recipes have been amazing! Most have complexity to them, but largely do not take significant time. Especially if you are into meal prepping, then these recipes can be made very quickly on weeknights. My favorite has been the Pad Thai so far, and I can't wait to make every recipe (including the pup treats at the end). Lovely photos (I'm huge on making sure what I produced is accurate by photos) and easily laid out so that a household that doesn't have a fully vegan family (like mine) can adjust to their carnivorous members. I read her other cookbooks and (for me) this is a much more flavorful (yes, as the title suggests), easier AND accessible cookbook. I read this cookbook first, and then looked for additional versions because I like "Chloe Flavor" so much; this book appears to be a different version of the author so I can see why those that love her earlier books are giving this cookbook 4 stars (it's totally different in layout and modernized flavor profiles). This book is 5-stars if you are looking for flavorful vegan recipes with modern ingredient and global flavor profiles. Unique and upscale; certainly worth the investment in (yet another) cookbook for me!

Chloe is a go-to cookbook author for me. This book is beautiful to look at. Just the right amount of pictures (the book is pretty big). The recipes I tried have also been delicious, as expected. I trust that her recipes will come out and they always do, she uses accessible ingredients, and her directions are also easy to follow. But I wish she had more recipes for main entrees and stews in this book like she does in her previous books. I love this cookbook! The recipes are easy, use ingredients that are usually easy to find most anywhere, and absolutely delicious. The cookbook serves as a great reminder that vegan food is beautiful, diverse, and delicious in its own right. The recipes within it do not aim to replace or mimic animal products; rather they open our minds and appetites to all of the wonderful plant-based foods and flavors that exist.

Yep, this is another vegan cookbook, even though I'm not vegan. I am trying to eat more plants and avoid dairy, though, and Chloe does the trick. There are many interesting recipes and some I have no interest in (like tofu, I'll make it with chicken.) The photos are enticing and interesting. Something for everyone in here. Useful new things to learn being vegan already 5 years and an avid cook but Chloe loves sugar a bit too much and I have a hunch that she's got low stomach acidity, hence for that reason likely having a whack stomach with issues in bacterial imbalances, hence perpetuating the cycle of loving sugar so much.. I’m not vegan but everything in this book looks amazingly delicious....I like that it all seems fairly simple to carry out and is not pretentious like a few of the vegan cookbooks have hit me. I’m very excited to execute several of these meals.

Many plant based cookbooks can be intimidating because of the types of exotic ingredients. This is not one of them. I think this would be best for a new vegan or veg-curious cook. Simple recipes with easy, already in your pantry ingredients.
