**grm** This book wasn't about a love story, also if the cover tricked me in believing it would. Alex Marley and Pat Tessaro aren't a couple and don't become one. Their lives and the brief sexual relationship(not monogamous),and then friendship, that they share, is only a background. Both of them knew anyway that the other wasn't their destined one (so to say). Pat that wasn't ready to forget his ex, and love of his life, Elias, with which the break-up was still fresh, and Alex that wanted a serious relationship, something that Pat couldn't give him, nor that Alex asked him though. They both were in it for the fun, and if I wasn't a fan of reading something like this, it wasn't cheat, but I still felt bad for Elias, also bcs in the end Pat tells him about Alex. The finale was good, and the things we learned bout the Cold Case Squad, of how they worked and who were the faces behind the hard work, kept my interest, but I was actually happy that this book was short, bcs I think it missed feelings. The epilogue showed us, Alex and Pat in the future. They were still friends, but now both had a mate and a son and,to no one surprise, Pat was mated with Elias. This isn't a spoiler since the author made the 5th book about this couple. I don't know how I feel about reading that book though...since I know that they slept with other people while still being in love with each other.... Next!

Disappointed I was disappointed with the ending. I would have liked to know more about Pat's ex. The mystery was interesting though. Disappointed I was disappointed with the ending. I would have liked to know more about Pat's ex. The mystery was interesting though.

I really enjoyed this quickly read introduction to the Never Too Late series, and I very much look forward to reading more of the series. The story was well written and didn't get predictable like some short reads can be. I liked both of the main characters, Patrick and Alex, and would have loved to see them work things out but as with life many times it wasn't just meant to be. Or sometimes you just need someone else to show you what you really need in life. The only problem that I had with the short read was that in the first chapter there were so many characters introduced at one time that it was so easy to get confused, and most of them I never really got a grasp on throughout the story. It got easier to follow when it became focused mostly on the two lead characters. Overall very enjoyable, and I look forward to more of this series and more of Aiden Bates' works.

Special Agent Alex Marley finds himself assigned to a bizarre case in Massachusetts. The town he is in has its quirks and seems odd to him. He initially wasn't too excited to work with the FBI but after catching a glimpse of Special Agent Marley, Pat has no problem making an exception. Alex is one hell of a gorgeous omega. There is an obvious attraction between the two of them from the start. However, they have a job to do. This case is beyond bizarre and the more they look into the case, the bigger it appears to be and the situation is dire. Eventually, Alex and Pat's attraction to each other becomes to strong to ignore, so they finally give into their passions. They are electric together but both know that it can't last because Alex will eventually have to return to Virginia. They decide to make the most of the time they have and not worry so much about the future. I have always been weary of reading short stories. They always feel rushed to me and wrap up way to quickly. However, the author did an excellent job of setting a steady pace from start to finish. Although I would have liked to read more about these characters, I never felt cheated out of the actual story. If more short stories are written like this, I will have to start reading them more often. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

Crossing law enforcement lines I didn't expect this shortened first story of the Never Too Late series especially after reading the Silver Oaks books. We meet the men of the Massachusetts State Police Cold Case Squad - all Alphas. They work well together, even accepting the assistance of an Omega FBI agent on a very important case. While I enjoyed this story and its happy ending I was surprised by the unexpected conclusion. Also I was disappointed in the hurried resolutions. I hope to read more about these main characters in future series books. Some of the circumstances were difficult to read about. I enjoy police dramas, but the deplorable way that Omegas were treated was sometimes hard to stomach. Victims demeaned and dehumanized, then careless tossed aside. I want to learn more about what happened after they received the assistance of the state troopers. Even though this was a quick read, it had a strong mutual attraction, curiosity, acceptance, danger, and rescues. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

A few years down the line they each meet separate people they fall in love with and have a family with. The two men simply remain good friends in contact. That story is fine, but since it isn't what was in the description it threw me off. Really, this was like two separate stories. One was about the case and the murderer and abused pregnant omegas. The other was about two men working the case eventually finding their own happy families. So, it was fine, just a little odd.

2.75 stars Was there an actual point to this book? The 2 MCs came from 2 different law enforcement agencies to help solve a case. There was quite a bit of time spent leading up to the 'arrest' but, it was VERY anti-climactic. The 2 MCs were attracted to one another but never said/showed the other until BOOM, they kissed and had sex... WHAT??? The time line was jumpy, the sex would have been better off being off-page because there certainly wasn't much on page, and the ending was ... just ... NO. Alex is an omega FBI agent who is sent to work temporarily with the Cold Case squad in a strange case. Pat is an alpha Vice Cop who is sent to work in the same case as Alex. This is a short story introducing the series. It is a bit different from the books I have read by Aiden Bates, but still a good one. I kind of like the end because there is no drama about it. Both of them know where they stand and they respect that. Aiden Bates never ceases to amaze me. I thought all his books would be in and around New York City. I was pleasantly surprised to find him basing this in Massachusetts, and even getting a joke or two in there about our archaic laws. Another great read from Aiden Bates. Alex and Pat find themselves working together on a case and they develop a no strings attached relationship and become really close. This freebie to Newsletter subscribers is an introduction to the Cold Case team of Never Too Late. It handles the case of a dead, pregnant omega male found in a barrel, whilst introducing readers to Pat and Alex. It could also be considered a prequel to Together Again, Pat's story. For a short story it did a good job of introducing the characters and dealing with the crime. I'll be reading more of this series. Really good short prequel story for this series. Gave low stars because I was totally disappointed in how it ended. I was really hoping the HEA that was had was going to be the usual one, but things totally went in a couple of different directions. It made me sad to be honest. NOT a romance between the MCs The MCs have a fling and then both go one to settle down with someone else. This is NOT a romance. There is a little bit of solving a crime and some about a fling between the two MCs then a brief explanation of the MCs actually setting down with other people and, oh yeah both families have a kid.

If you're looking for a love story, go away. If you're looking for a glimpse into the life of how this particular cop got pulled into Cold Cases, please carry on. Yes, this has a continuation of the Pat and Elias story at the end. Does my OCD like that? Not so much, but I get it. And it does round out this particular short story nicely. Started strongly but ended on a whimper. I don't think it's spoiling anything to say that the two people who seem to be the MCs don't end up together. And it's all tied up with a summary at the end, so we're just told everything all at once. Honestly I'm not sure what the point of the story is other to get a sense of the author's writing style. 3/5 I didn't realize this was an extra of a series so I was confused with the way the author handled the main "couple." As for the book, due to the nature of its length, the pacing was incredibly fast which drain tension from the case imo. It was like watching an CSI episode in forward. 3/5 I didn't realize this was an extra of a series so I was confused with the way the author handled the main "couple." Not really my cup of tea. The writing was sloppy and it needed a lot of proofreading. At the end, everything happened like it was stuck in fast forward, almost like the author had run out of time.
