Rising Star is book one in the brand new series, Shooting Stars, by Terri Osburn. I have only previously read one short story by Terri but I fell in love with it. Why I never read anything else is the big question here. I decided to jump in now because this is a new series and well, just look at the cover. I can’t say no to a man that looks like that in his Stetson. This book was amazing. It was everything, fun, sexy, the Hero was seriously swoony. Sometimes when I fall in love with a book right Rising Star is book one in the brand new series, Shooting Stars, by Terri Osburn. Sometimes when I fall in love with a book right from the start, I wait for the feeling to fade, for the story to dim a little bit. But that never happened. I loved it more with every page. And that ending. I had to wipe my eyes. So after all this build up, let me tell you about it. Charley Layton is twenty-five years old and has only been in Nashville a few months. She came from a small town where she was a DJ for a radio station there but to work for a well known station in Nashville was her dream and now she was living it. She was the newbie but that was fine. She would gain everyone’s respect. This was all she’s ever wanted to do. She has made a pact with herself that relationships are a big NO! She has to concentrate on her career. She is an independent woman and she won’t give up her dreams for anyone. It’s her birthday so her roommate has taken her out for the night. You know that old cliché of the eyes that meet across the bar and sparks erupt? Well, that happened. She saw him at the end of the bar wearing that black Stetson and was struck speechless. She was off of relationships but that didn’t mean maybe she couldn’t give herself a birthday present of a one night stand with a very hot cowboy, right?! Dylan Monroe is a country music singer who is on the cusp of finally gaining some recognition. He had a chance once before and it fell apart. After years of struggling, now is his big chance. He has a single releasing and it’s only the beginning. When he saw the beautiful woman across the bar, he couldn’t look away. And when they talked, he was even more taken with her. When he held her in his arms in a dance, he didn’t want to let her go. And when they kissed, the world stopped spinning. “His gut said there was something here. Something worth pursuing.” Clay Benedict is the owner of the brand new record company, Shooting Stars Records. He has put everything he owns into getting this company off the ground and currently, they have one artist, Dylan Monroe. Clay has secrets of his own, the reason he walked away from a very lucrative partnership with his life long friend. “I’m here for a song, remember?” “You are a song, Charley Layton.” So starts Dylan and Charley’s relationship. Perhaps starting a brand new relationship at the same time that a musical career is just taking off isn’t the best timing. Dylan is so taken with Charley, though, that he is determined to make this work. Charley was so determined not to get involved but she just can’t resist Dylan. But what happens when Dylan is on the road and all those young groupies are throwing themselves at him? She hasn’t even known him long enough to be able to trust him. “Do I seem like a damsel in distress to you?” “Not in the least.” “Then why are you always coming to my rescue?” “Lucky, I guess.” “Who’s lucky? Me or you?” “Maybe we both are.” This book! I loved every page. I am so in love with Dylan. He made me sigh, swoon, just melted me into a puddle. He was just that perfect. One thing that I really loved about this book was that there was so much more than just the relationship between Dylan and Charley. There is a whole story with Clay of Shooting Star Records. Charley’s roommate, Mattie was a character. Dylan’s roommate, Casey, had a bit of a story going on. So, there was a lot happening. Did I convince you yet? I hope so. I am so glad I finally jumped on the Terri Osburn bandwagon. I can’t wait for the next book in this series, Falling Star, which will feature a brand new star for Shooting Star Records, Chance Colburn.

I love music. I mean all music. Everything from Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline to Bad Religion and the Dropkick Murphys. I love Bluegrass, Folk, Rock, Pop. I love it all. But I don't much like books about the industry. For me the music is a story on its own and I don't need to or want to look behind the veil. Calling a spade a spade, I find the "business of stardom" vacuous. So I wasn't expecting to love this book. Hell, I was worried I wouldn't even like it. I should not have worried. Rising Star is perfect! It's everything I want in Contemporary Romance. Characters I love, a story that dragged me through the pages and an ending that came way too soon. This book goes right up there with my favorites. It's a book that just leaves you happy with an embarrassing stupid grin on your face.

Dylan is getting a second chance at getting his singing career started again and is counting on Shooting Stars agency getting him there. When they meet at a bar and they spend the evening together they never would have thought that they would find that special one to fall in love with. Both would say that the timing was bad but maybe this was meant to be. With each new day they realize they might have a chance at making this work if they have a little faith and trust in each other. Rising Star is a fun and enjoyable story that I finished in no time. The characters were well developed and the witty dialogue was smart and funny. Charley is a strong and independent woman who wasn’t going to let anyone sidetrack her from her job. Relationships came second and she tried to stay away from Dylan but his charm kept her seeing him again and again. Dylan was the perfect hero and I fell in love with him. He didn’t come on too strong and got to know her and what she liked and really cared for her. All the characters were interesting and added more to the developing romance. The romance that developed between Dylan and Charley developed fast but had its sweet moments and some very sexy times. I’m so glad I fell in love with the cover for Rising Star because it introduced me to a new author and her wonderful writing style. The story was engaging and the characters very likeable. The secondary characters that were introduced were just as dynamic as the main characters and I hope to see them later. I can’t wait to read more from Terri Osburn and the next book of the Shooting Stars series. Review copy provided for a voluntary review.

Sweet read Sugary sweet read/listen. Started off slow but then picked up. No real action just done predictable drama. It was interesting to see some inner workings of the recording industry and the PR blitz. I listened on the way to work. Kinda of a weird narrator at times. I think I will check out the second book.

This book totally stands alone and does not end on a cliffhanger. They don't have to be swaggering “alphas” (a term that in the romance world seems to be synonymous with 'total a-hole') who order their women around and act like total jerks to be sexy, they're just really great guys who are confident and sexy while being unashamed to love. I adore that about her books and Dylan fit perfectly into that mold, being just a solid, good dude despite being a rising country star. He didn't put on airs or pretend to be some ridiculous 'alpha male' in order to look important, he was just a good guy who happened to also have a talent for singing and I loved that. Even when things went south with Charley, he loved her enough to figure out what was going on and to fight for her, which made me swoon. Charley was a strong, smart woman who was incredibly likable as a character. I found myself heavily invested in this story as I read it, just wanting these two to get their act together and find their happily ever after. The side characters in this one were really great. They added a lot to the story without overwhelming it – even though Matty made me want to grind my teeth more often than not. In the end she came through but for more than three quarters of the book I had no idea why Charley even talked to her. Ms. Osburn's books are always written with humor and heart, and this story is no exception. I loved the banter between Dylan and Charley as they drove toward the Pharmacy, and the dozens of more subtle moments that made me chuckle while I was reading. This book also felt a little bit like a love letter to the city of Nashville. If you enjoy a book set in the music scene that features two very likable characters who belong together, you should read this book. I hope that Ms. Osburn has plans to write stories about the other band members and even Matty, because I would happily read all of them. I requested and was generously granted an ARC of this story via NetGalley and the publisher. I was under no obligation to write this review, I did so because this book is great.

I loved the mix for these two and how they are brought together. I loved the build up of the relationship but I am not going to lie it’s an easy story plot to read into and know where everything is headed. This isn’t a butterflies in your stomach or angst story line, it’s more hearts and flowers! For me as a reader I did get mad at Charley during one part but my anger passed just as quickly as it came. I am not going to lie though, I completely am in love with Dylan as a character. The way Terri wrote him is exactly what I dream ever country star is. Just go look at his smirk on the cover and tell me he is not melting things. FYI He is totally melting things! Oh and don’t worry there is also that character that you want to throat punch repeatedly in here so I shouldn’t really say it’s all hearts and flowers!! Actually, there are a ton of secondary characters that I want more from, especially, a certain character named Casey and the lucky damn hat!! I just need that whole story ** HINT, HINT ** However, I am totally ready for Chance to fall in my kindle, I mean a girl can never have too many country boys!!

I needed some time getting into this story but I instantly loved Dylan and Charley together. They have sparks flying, slip naturally into something serious and are simply awesome. I got her, when she thought he was too good. He's actually pretty perfect when he wasn't a fool. You can't not swoon over him, especially when he has his cute moments, like letting her friend, who didn't really care, know where she is. Also this is much more than just a love story. There's the story of Clay and his label Shooting Stars after his secret made it impossible for him to stay partner with his lifelong friend. I really liked him but his little story makes me seriously doubt him. There's his roommate Casey, who also has a good little story of his own. I didn't get all that Instagram drama. Like how could Dylan be such a fool and Casey even worse? With women all over them, it really irritated me. And not because it's such a cliche. Why wouldn't Dylan check in regularly in the first place and be such a naive idiot, letting all that happen? It was explained but still feels stupid. I did like the whole Mitch thing, which developed into representing the whole business. And Country is completely new to me but I was quickly sucked into this world and really enjoyed the story.

4,5 stars This was the first book that I read from the writer Terri Osburn and to my delight I liked it very much. When I read the blurb I was very curious about the story because I have read many ‘rockstar’ books but this was my first book about a country singer. ‘Rising star’ is a contemporary story that is writing very fluent and that is a light and easy read . The story is told in both POV’s. If you’re looking for a story with a good guy in it, then you really have to read this one. When Dylan and Charley meet at a bar, sparks immediately fly and fate is set into motion. I loved the aspect of this novel. Up and coming country music singer meets a young and fresh DJay. I have yet to read something like this when it comes to novels with a music aspect. I was intrigued and curious to see how this would go. Rising Star was a cute as hell novel. I literally was over here swooning over Dylan Monroe. He's a man with a kind heart and a set of manners to go along with. He's sweet and endearing. He knows how to treat a woman. There is not a single asshole bone in this mans body, but don't let that deter you from reading. Dylan Monroe is also cocky but in a hilariously charming sense. He and Charley vibe just right. I really enjoyed this novel and I can't wait to read more from Terri Osburn and the Shooting Stars series!

She has decided to put relationships and men off. Concentrating on her career only. But a night out at the Wildhorse Saloon and meeting Dylan Monroe might have her changing her tune. Dylan Monroe has this last chance to make a go of his music career. He needs to put all his time and energy into his music. He has no time for relationships. One night he meets the smart sexy and beautiful Charley Layton. Will she change his mind? Dylan and Charley have such a wonderful chemistry through the entire book. They banter back and forth, they joke and it makes them very likable. Their story is very likable. Yes they have issues to deal with but it is not all this crazy over the top drama you find in so many romance books today. It is a very funny, warm and lovable romance. I recommend this book to everyone. On a side note, I hope that further books bring us a story for Matty.

Unfortunately the story is more like Pop music; enjoyable but with little heart behind the words. In the south, Country radio is king and nowhere is that more apparent than in Nashville. Getting a mid-day DJ slot on the popular Eagle 101.5 is no small feat for small town girl Charlie Layton and she’s ready to show management that she’s the right fit for their station. Charlie loves her work and her co-workers; morning show host Ruby Barnett and the station’s bookkeeper Matty Jacobs have become her closest friends in town. Their plan to celebrate Charlie’s birthday mix a little business with pleasure as Ruby is scheduled to host an open mic night at the Wildhorse Saloon. From the safety of the bar, Charlie watches Ruby in action as she plays to the crowd and keeps them entertained before the live music starts. Being the center of attention has always made Charlie uncomfortable and live appearances like this are the only part of her job she dislikes. It’s a necessary evil, but one she’s happy to let Ruby handle whenever possible. Charlie is also content to let Matty get most of the male attention. Blonde and petite, Matty is always the one receiving free drinks or invitations to go out on the dance floor. It’s no surprise then when the bartender walks up with a fresh drink for Matty, compliments of the man at the end of the bar. Charlie barely notices the guy but her eyes are drawn instantly to his companion. Tall, dark and wearing a black Stetson, he’s a picture perfect cowboy and the stuff of female fantasies. Not Charlie’s of course, since he’s probably on wingman duty and will only talk to her so his friend can introduce himself to Matty. As if prompted, the men walk over and Charlie finds herself paired off with Dylan Monroe as they watch his buddy crash and burn with Matty. Please read the full review at All About Romance

This was a fun one to read. I loved how Charley and Dylan met, but knew that Dylan keeping what he did a secret would cause problems. Dylan could have taken advantage of things, but he didn't, instead he showed Charley a good time with the low key things they did. It was fun to see their romance evolve, but I knew the issues that were coming, you could see it coming. It was interesting to watch Dylan get his eyes opened. I have been a fan of Ms. Osburn from the beginning of her writing career. This book to me is a departure from her previous works. I loved the steady built of the story and the characters and how it played. A great addition to Ms. Osburn's work.

Love the chemistry between country star, Dylan Monroe, and radio personality, Charley Layton. Dylan is a really good guy which prevents him from seeing just how sleazy his manager is. The things Dylan's manager did to destroy Charley's and Dylan's relationship should have landed him in jail. Charley is a strong, independent woman who doesn't put up with anyone's bad behavior and Dylan really respects that. Elvis and Charley's grandfather are hilarious. Really cute story! Sometimes the line between blogger and fan gets blurred. I started reading Rising Star as a blogger to clear my reading list. But my reading quickly became that of a fan, as I was quickly reminded why I was one of Terri Osburn's first fans. She drew me into the story with likable, relatable, everyday characters. Dylan Monroe may be an up and coming country singer but he's real. He's just a guy from Louisiana with manners galore. He doesn't want to be famous. He just wants to make music. Charley Layton is an up and coming DJ. She is probably one of the best people at doing her job, but she doesn't know it. She doesn't want Dylan for fame or fortune. She just wants him for him. Rising Star is one of those stories that surprised me. I wasn’t expecting to immediately start laughing. I wasn’t expecting to have happy endorphins filling my body throughout the entire book. Not only were Charley and Dylan great characters but so were the secondary characters. Many of whose stories I definitely would love to read. I really liked that Rising Star was a story about Dylan and Charley coming together without having baggage from the past weighing them down. I simply loved everything about Rising Star. I highly recommend reading it. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for the stars of Shooting Stars Records. **Received a copy from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed the book.**

Rising Star by Terri Osburn A Shooting Stars Novel, Book 1 I love books that make me want to step into and become part of them. This book made me wonder what it would be like to be a DJ on the radio as well as think about what being a star really means. Who is behind the person who makes it to stardom? Who assists and who doesn’t? What does it take to be the significant other of a star? What qualities are required to make it to the top? This book made me think and that is always a good thing. It also made me feel and care and kept me entertained. Great characters in Dylan Monroe and Charley Layton – their chemistry sizzled though their communication missed a few beats from time to time. In addition to the H/h that kept me tuned in with more than conversation there were other worthy characters that intrigued me that I would love to see in future books. I have a feeling Chase and Naomi may show up in book two of the series but before the series ends I do hope that Clay and his ex-partner Tony can be friends again AND that Clay finds professional success AND a romance that will provide him with a HEA. I have a feeling that Dylan and his band, Charley’s friends Matty and Elvis and some others may keep making appearances as the series progresses and I look forward to following this series as each book comes out. Dylan Monroe is a country singer/songwriter getting a second chance at making it in his chosen profession. He has just signed a contract with Shooting Stars, a new record label in the industry. Dylan has lived the single life but is now looking for more. He is a Southern boy, charming and well mannered. Charley Layton is a DJ with a local radio station. After being burned, her career comes first and she doesn’t do relationships. She prefers being behind the scenes and not in the spotlight. Dylan loves Charley’s intelligence, sass, the way she speaks her mind and down to earth personality. When he wakes up alone, he’s determined to go after her. I liked Dylan’s character. He’s a good guy. He seems to just know when to push Charley and when to back away. Charley annoyed me at times. For all her I don’t do relationships attitude, she caved to Dylan’s request to see where things could go pretty easily. There is some music industry info but the story doesn’t get bogged down in those details. Good cast of supporting characters. Many opportunities for future books. You know by the end of the book which pair is up next. This is not a heavy, involved read. It’s a day at the beach, quick, easy read. So, starting something with Dylan Monroe is out of the question, but spending one night with him would definitely be worth it. Yet, when Dylan's dream starts to become a reality and he finds himself a star loved by thousands of fans, will he and Charley's relationship survive or will Dylan lose the woman that he wants forever after with? Ms. Osburn is a wonderful author and her books are a real treat to read, and this story starts off her Shooting Stars series brilliantly. Because it's a story about how a one-night stand can lead to so much more, encompasses two compelling main characters that I loved from start to finish, and riveting dialogue that had me reading quickly, determined to discover whether the heroine will be able to handle the lifestyle of an up and coming country star. The way this story started drew me in immediately, as the opening line was totally amusing and I wanted to know whether a certain secondary character would get her wish in seeing a certain male body. As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and I loved every moment the hero and heroine conversed. Both are determined to focus on their careers with Dylan becoming more and more popular as a country music artist and Charley becoming more and more popular as a radio host. Will their relationship survive when Dylan's popularity skyrockets to the point where he doesn't have much time to spend with the heroine? Will Charley be able to handle the women that throw themselves at the hero? Moreover, the heroine is strong, brave, independent, hard-working and I liked how determined she was when it came to her career. I also liked how Charley stood up to her friend -- the man-hater -- when the woman was so determined to write Dylan off like all the men that have ever disappointed her, even though Dylan is a good guy that would do anything for Charley. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is her friendship with Elvis, one of the secondary characters, and that he would do anything to protect her from getting hurt. In other words, Dylan better watch out. While the hero, he's been through a lot already when it comes to his music career, but hopefully now things are finally starting to come right for him. Furthermore, he's confident, hard-working and very determined when it comes to winning the heroine's heart and doing everything he can to succeed in his music career now that he's been given the opportunity of a lifetime. I also liked that he wasn't afraid to go head-to-head with the secondary characters that were determined to protect the heroine when it came to their relationship. Will he win Elvis and Charley's roommate over? Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is the decision he made towards the end that would be most beneficial for him as well as the heroine, especially since someone was determined to make trouble for this couple's relationship. Overall, Ms. Osburn has delivered a remarkable and smoking hot read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was instant and intense from the moment they met; the romance was delightful and had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after; and the ending had me loving how far the hero was willing to go to win back the heroine. Certainly, a face-off with one of the heroine's friends wouldn't be easy, especially considering the person's past career. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, because of how far Dylan has come in his career, which is proven by the surprise announcement when it comes to his talent. I would recommend Rising Star by Terri Osburn, if you enjoy the surprise pregnancy trope or books by authors Jaci Burton, Melissa Foster, Marina Adair and Catherine Bybee.
