Ok, I am now a definite fan of Becki Willis's The sisters. A very entertaining read. She has made them come alive and I will miss them , at least until the one comes out later this year. you go girl, keep writing, please. I have been a long time reader, I am 69 and have always been a reader and a dreamer. I is difficult to find a truly different plot. You deliver. Genny’s Ballad: The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series Book 5 is by Becki Willis. This delightful book continues a mystery set in The Sisters, Texas. It is fun to read and makes an easy and quick read. It would be great for summer reading. Genesis Baker had left town for college and had never come back. She had gone on to Paris to work for a great chef, set up a catering business, and had come home to The Sisters and opened a restaurant here. She could still feel the whispers about her and Tommy Evans even though that was long ago. They had married and had the marriage annulled in the same night. Tommy then married Kayla Sorensen who was claiming she was pregnant with Tommy’s baby. By the time she was discovered to be a liar, Genny was gone and Tommy committed suicide. Now that Genny was home, the rumors and whispers had begun again. This time it was because Cutter Montgomery, who was eight years younger than she was, was being seen with her a lot. As if this wasn’t enough, strange things began to happen. She would get phone calls with no one there, the fire alarm went off in her restaurant with no evident reason, someone wrote nasty things on her trash cans, and someone was setting fires around her house. Genny has no idea what is going on and why. She and Cutter need to find out who is going these things before things get out of hand. Can they do this?

Creepy ex-boyfriends, layers of mystery, hunky firefighters, supportive female friends, a cozy small-town setting, and apple turnovers – Genny’s Ballad, book five in Becki Willis’s The Sisters Texas Mysteries has all of that and more. What more? How about a compelling plot that opens with bumps and grunts in the night and said hunky firefighter coming to the rescue. What more? How about a compelling plot that opens with bumps and grunts in the night and said hunky firefighter coming to the rescue. But while that’s a good beginning, a novel needs more than just an opening scene. Fortunately author Willis delivers. This is no ordinary cozy mystery. It’s got layered stories and nuanced characters, and it deals with the reality that the hopes, dreams, and loves we have when we’re young are not necessarily the hopes, dreams, and loves we get to keep, or choose to follow through with as we mature. While I enjoyed that one of the many subplots involved the main character Genesis “Genny” Baker’s best friend Madison going through the joys and perils of her home (and life) being featured on a reality show about remodeling (and, by extension, Genny herself and many of their other friends) a scene I found particularly delicate and touching was one with an aging teacher who was clearly suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s. Working that into the story in a way that felt organic but still respectful of real people who live with such conditions speaks a lot to the author’s talent for writing believable characters. I also liked that Genny was flawed. She didn’t like asking for help, and that meant that she put herself in harm’s way. It’s easy to write a protagonist who is perfect. To write a character who is imperfect and still really likeable, someone we want to root for, takes real craft. And I did root for Genny to resolve her issues, and for Madison to resolve her cases, just as wanted all of the various romances to end successfully, because in a cozy mystery you get to solve the crime and have the perfect kiss, if the author has done her job, and Becki Willis has absolutely done her job. (Similarly, I wanted the less savory characters to get their comeuppance. I’m looking at you in particular Pembroke. You really annoyed me.) Of course, I have to mention that Genny’s Ballad is book five in an ongoing series, in which book eight has just been released. While it’s completely satisfying as a stand-alone read, it would be even more enjoyable within the context of the series at large. Cuddling, coziness, and creative crime solving by strong women characters – Genny’s Ballad has it all. Goes well with apple turnovers and fresh coffee.

Genny's Ballad #5 - This story concentrates on Genny and Cutter. The past and the present mix and it's not an all good combination. Well written, intriguing and substantial, this story keeps the reader immersed in the pages. The pace is fast, the action intense and the characters don't disappoint the reader; a well thought out plot. No cliffhanger, but there's another book hinted. 5* Chicken Scratch #1 - This is my first book by this author and I was greatly surprised at how well written, well th Genny's Ballad #5 - This story concentrates on Genny and Cutter. The pace is fast, the action intense and the characters don't disappoint the reader; a well thought out plot. No cliffhanger, but there's another book hinted. 5* Chicken Scratch #1 - This is my first book by this author and I was greatly surprised at how well written, well thought out and laced with humor and intrigue; this little gem is packed. The area is near and dear to my heart since I was born in the area. The people, while not as easily identifiable as in a Jeff Abbott novel, are locals I know. The Texas speak is just as if Ms. Willis and I were at the Creamery (TAMU) sharing milk shakes and local gossip. The kinks and knots in the plot made it hard to put down the book, even to get a tea refill. You can't help but like the characters and root for them. The story, filled with life stories, is actually pretty substantial, not fluff, and Ms. W is an entertaining storyteller. 5* When The Stars Fall #2 - This book is better than Chicken Scratch (#1), which is a good book, too. A lot of suspense, along with developing romances amongst several characters, keeps the reader immersed in this substantial story. Like the first book, the baddie is easily figured out, but the story is well worth reading. There are too many of the well rounded, well developed characters to shout out separately, but they're all interesting, funny, sincere and just plain folk. The Big House becomes a prominent character and helps the family with a huge change to their lives, maybe. Not a cliffhanger, but there's a tease about the future of Big and Madison. 5* Stipulations and Complications #3 - This is a heavy, suspense filled book full of dark secrets and mysteries with the past and the present colliding and the darkness is felt by all involved. Yet, there's plenty of good and love along with the humor. This intriguing, substantial read is hard to put down with its interesting storylines and well thought out characters. This book is on the level with DeMille, Follette, Grisham and Ludlum. 5* Home Again: Starting Over #4 - Amen Sister to that comment about Texans and wannabes! This series must be read in order; they keep getting better and better. I love the fact that what happens in the earlier books are just slightly mentioned, instead of being retold. All the characters keep growing and their past and secrets coming to light as the books go on. Multiple storylines in this book and the twists and surprises just keep the reader glued to the pages. I've chain read the first four books and don't have the next two available to me. But I'm diving into book seven, the newly released The Lilac Code. 5* The Lilac Code #7 - Trouble even finds them outside of Texas! I missed the two books before this one, but it was still an interesting read. I was disappointed with the ending - the gun in her hand was forgotten. But the pages were full of intrigue and suspense, and the characters were intense. Again, there were multiple stories occurring, along with the main story. Current events were featured, which isn't surprising with all that's happened in Texas and other U.S. locations in the past year alone. While not a cliffhanger, there's definitely more books in the future. I chain read five books in three days and never once was bored with this series. 5*

I absolutely adore this series by Becki Willis! That being said, there were a few things I would point out about this one in particular. First, the foreshadowing at the beginning of the book was fine. But I was frustrated to read the exact same chapter again in it's entirety later in the book. Maybe the foreshadowing could have been just a portion of the full scene, a teaser? Secondly, I really missed Maddie and Brash. Don't get me wrong - I love Genny and Cutter! How does a ballad have anything to do with this story? I know this all may be coming across as critical and give the impression that I didn't like the book. But that couldn't be further from the truth (well, except for the whole repeated foreshadowing stuff). I gave it a very solid four stars and I read it in two days, after all. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and I'm seriously having to pace myself since I can devour these great stories faster than Becki can write them. ;)

This is the second book I have read by this author Becki Willis, and I loved it! I love Willis' writing. I like that she uses a strong, independent woman as her primary character, and combines her with an equally strong likeable male character to create her romance angle. Another excellent read by Becki Willis. So far I have read all of The Sisters series up to and including Jenny's Ballad. I can't wait to start the next one. A FUN READ This is a very likeable bunch of characters with lots of interesting twists . I do wish however that the Kindle editors would spell "pus" correctly. Puss is a cat or a form of sexist slang. Pus is the nasty result of an infection. Mixing up the two makes for disruptive and occasionally humorous reading at a point that the author never intended. Use a dictionary. Spellcheck is notoriously unreliable. A FUN READ This is a very likeable bunch of characters with lots of interesting twists . I am so glad the author did this story about Genny. It explained a lot about Genny and her feelings about Cutter. And the suspense was an edge of your seat type of suspense. You could really feel Genny's fear and anger when dealing with those stalking her. I did miss some of the other characters, but I'm sure we will see them again. I will be anxiously awaiting the Christmas story to be released. I am so glad the author did this story about Genny. It explained a lot about Genny and her feelings about Cutter. Sweet book This is a romance that tries to be a mystery and falls back on some outlandish plot ideas at the end to fulfill the mystery part. There is a section in the book where some pages are repeated completely, needs to be edited out. If you want to read a sweet little romance with some strange stuff pasted on to make it a mystery, this book is for you.

Ahh , the heartbreaking story of our sweet Genny. Absolutely love this glimpse into her life both before and after she moves to the Sisters.
