And after a quick, or should I say bad trip down the wrong side of memory lane I found myself holing up in a sleepy rural town on a strictly cloak and dagger mission. Copperwood Falls. Think rolling forested hills, white picket fences and lush apple pie - with a maggot wriggling under the crust. A haunted town where the woods whisper at night and demons come calling. Intense, edgy and dangerous are only a few words that I can write for this review. The second book in the "Morgan Rooks" series was a serious page turner. I didn't want to put it down, although I had to for a short time. Morgan is still intent on avenging Willow, his dead girlfriend and the deaths of his mentor and new friends. Sent on a mission to discover a "Dark crystal" factory his runs into enemies and New friends. His dark side comes out to help save the day a few times. Another great read Kit pulled it off against. It is a little dark and a little shorter than I expected, but I truly enjoyed the story. Please keep it up, I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible: The second adventure of Morgan Rook is intriguing, dark and unputdownable...:) I liked the first book in the series, though I thought the pace of the story was a bit uneven. This installment, however, takes you on a fast ride and never slows down. This time Morgan has to find out why there are people going missing around a small town of Copperwood Falls. It's a good thing he has a task to do as the Organization seems to have a problem with his latest job at the Asylum - it's probably better for him to get away from their radar for a while. And so Morgan goes undercover - and as ususal he gets himself into much more than he expected... Morgan Rook is one of those characters readers love - complex, sometimes confusing, with a lot of secrets in his past that he himself is unaware of. There is a lot of grey to him, but there is also moral strength that has kept him on the good side - so far... And though we may have thought we knew all there was to know about him in the first book, we realize as we follow him in this case that there is definitely much more in store for us to discover about him... The imagery and the storytelling by Kit Hallows is very cinematic, and the first person narration makes the story even more engaging. Shawn Compton's interpretation adds another layer to the experience - he doesn't read Morgan's story, he IS Morgan Rook telling you about his adventures:) It's a perfect interpretation of the book. While the underlying arc of this series continues to a certain extent in this instalment, this is still a fairly standalone book too and somebody could choose to jump into the series at this point if they wanted. The performance of the narrator is a good one, serving to nicely enhance the book with clear and distinctive tones that help to draw in the listener. Overall, an entertaining follow-up to the previous book in this series and I will be interested to see how the series progresses. Disclaimer. I had requested and received audible version of this book for free from the narrator, in exchange for an unbiased review. What I liked about the book - Even though this is the second book of the series, and I hadn't read the first book, I didn't feel like I'm missing a huge chunk of the story or anything. This book works absolutely fine as a standalone, because this series is mostly a "mystery of the day" episodic series where each book has a new story. This was an entertaining read, wi Disclaimer. This was an entertaining read, with dollops of mystery and thrill throughout the book. Rook's character is very interesting and makes you root for him. He keeps the story intriguing, which moved at a comfortable pace. What I disliked about the book - Nothing specific that I can think of. Narration - Narration by Shawn Compton was a good match for the content.

I really liked this book, great stuff! This is the first in the series that I've listened to, so I probably won't have as much insight as those who've read the others, but all in all I really enjoyed this!! Great story, great writing, and loved the narration! Morgan is awesome! I'd definitely recommend listening and going on this ride, well worth it!! :) I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. My review is based on the audiobook. Overall 4 stars Performance 5 stars Story 4 stars Rook's story continues in this fast paced action packed second book. Filled with twists, turns and tons of magic this story had me captivated from start to finish. The narrator was on point bringing the story and characters to life. I have multiple books on my read list and I had to drop everything to read this ahead of everything else. I am getting drawn into to series very quickly. So much so that as soon as I finish one I have to start on the other. I can myself reading/listening to this series often over the years without a loss of entertainment value. Bravo.

There is definitely growth. Morgan gets a change of scenery and the overall plot thickens! Excellent ongoing character development. Still very to the point, but the dialogue is flowing and not forced. I find myself getting invested in Morgan Rook. I will be continuing this series.

A good sequel to dark city. Not really the best paranormal thriller I've ever read, but still worth reading. I definitely recommend this series for everyone. A good sequel to dark city.
