n Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe we meet Gertrude (Gert to her friends) a disabled cat lady whose a bit of a curmudgeon. After taking a count of her cats she discovers one has escaped her trailer and sets out with her walker to find Tornado (the missing cat). A woman and her two young children have recently moved into one of the trailers and it is here she discovers Tornado. Only the kids aren’t at school and their mother is missing. What began as a quest to find their mom soon leads to a murder n Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe we meet Gertrude (Gert to her friends) a disabled cat lady whose a bit of a curmudgeon. A woman and her two young children have recently moved into one of the trailers and it is here she discovers Tornado. Only the kids aren’t at school and their mother is missing. What began as a quest to find their mom soon leads to a murder mystery. The cops dismiss, Gertrude’s investigative skills and encourage her to go home, but she has evidence and sets out to save others and catch a killer! Oh lord, Gert is an absolute hoot. Rude, surly, and apt to say whatever pops out of her mouth, I couldn’t help but laugh at her over the top antics. I wouldn’t call her lovable but she is entertaining. She gains help from the disability van service, a friend and even enlists her reluctant neighbor Old Man Crow. Humor, a little suspense and Gertrude’s over the top mannerisms, conversations, and actions made this a quick fun read. Gertrude is back in Gertrude, Gumshoe: Murder at Goodwill. Needing to get her Christmas shopping done, she calls the van and gets a ride to the local Goodwill. It’s Saturday and quite crowded. After rummaging through the children’s section she heads off to the perfume section where she makes a ghastly discovery. She discovers the body of a dead woman and the ugliest green lamp she has ever seen. She lets out a scream and is soon discovered by employees. She turns to tell them she simply found the body and that quick the lamp disappears. Hale the local handsome detective is shocked to find Gert at another murder scene and angers Gert when he isn’t upset about the missing lamp. Once again Gert beings investigating, even going to so far as to secure a job at Goodwill. A burglary, boobytraps, and trouble insue as Gert and her reluctant neighbor investigate. For me, this was a stronger story and I enjoyed seeing familiar characters. This was a quick, funny, and clever case that I quite enjoyed. Again we see a tie-in from a former character in Gertrude, Gumshoe and the VardSale Villain. In the first story, we met Andy a janitor who works at Private Eyes (a dance club) His girlfriend is missing and Gertrude has her first paying customer. Thanks to a calendar she learns Samantha Cooper was met by a seller from a wildly popular site called Vardsale. She enlists the help of Calvin (Old Man Crow) since she needs A. his computer and B. a ride. Gertrude’s investigations have her meeting sellers, gathers clues and getting herself in trouble. Hilarious, and daring Merrill delivered another interesting case. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Gertrude Gumshoe is a character you are going to love from the moment you meet her. Her Spunky attitude, her tenacity for sleuth thing, and her ever present walker with a pouch and her jitterbug phone, just makes her a complete character, you can see in your mind. Adventure she faces in each of these books will make you laugh and have you guessing who done it till the end. It will have you rooting for romance, and whooping when justice is done. Although I was given an ARC for some of her books, and bought some on my own, my reviews on my own, are honest, and freely done simply because I love her books.

This book includes; Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe; Gertrude, Gumshoe: Murder at Goodwill; and Gertrude, Gumshoe: And the Vardsale Villain. The books follow Gertrude trying to hone her Gumshoe skills. She is investigating deaths and disappearances that seem to follow her. I can't wait to read more of Gertrude's story. Very Entertaining Book I loved Gertrude who is an old lady who refuses to be your usual old lady. She is funny, feisty and very lucky. I chuckled at her adventures and admired her adventurousness. She reminded me that age is a concept and you can be young at heart whatever your birth certificate says. I'm going to read more books about her because she is an entertaining character. I had listened to a couple of the stories in this set before, and when it came out as a box set, I just had to listen again. Now I’ve been able to enjoy them all. Gertrude is one of my all time favorite characters in cozy mysteries. Robin Merrill has developed her in such a believable way, and I can’t imagine anyone but Darlene Allen bringing her to life. I actually laugh out loud at her antics. I really hope we get to see much more of Gertrude... I’m a true fan!

Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe was my fourth read from author Robin Merrill. Very different than the Piercehaven books I'd previously read by her, the book was entertaining & enjoyable. Gertrude Gumshoe: Murder at Goodwill was my fifth read from author Robin Merrill. This mystery was entertaining & enjoyable (think Murder She Wrote with an average female lead). Gertrude Gumshoe: Murder and the Vardsale Villain was my sixth read from author Robin Merrill. Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe was my fourth read from author Robin Merrill. Although something went wrong with the third story in the series and I was unable to listen to all of it, I found the other stories to be funny, suspenseful and just plain fun. Gertrude is a very unusual detective but in her naive and relentless way, she manages to lead the reader through the clues to the murder while providing plenty of smiles and laughter along the way. Highly recommended.

Cute I had trouble finishing this book set. Its a little too unbelievable. Rather than a cozy mystery, it should be in the fantasy genre! The rating probably shows four stars but I was aiming for a two star! I w ould not recommend these to a true cozy reader.

Read the whole three books purely because I'd bought them. Didn't find them particularly funny, maybe not my sense of humour. The ideas of the stories were pretty good but could have been worked on more, and the delivery was poor. Too cosy for me. Read the whole three books purely because I'd bought them. Kind of campy but it was a definite fun read. I love hearing all about Gertrude’s shenanigans. I’d love to read more about Gertrude and see where certain relationships will head.

Gertrude, Gumshoe Cozy Mystery Box — Robin Merrill July 1-4, 2018 This is a very fun cozy mystery box set. Gertrude is an older lady who solves mysteries with her walker and trusty friend and neighbor, Calvin at her side. It is completely clean and safe for all ages to read. They also read very fast! Per usual, I will dissect each book separately within their own book section; briefly here; then give my overall impression in this space. —— Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe (17 chapters) July 1, 2018 Ger Gertrude, Gumshoe Cozy Mystery Box — Robin Merrill July 1-4, 2018 This is a very fun cozy mystery box set. Per usual, I will dissect each book separately within their own book section; briefly here; then give my overall impression in this space. —— Introducing Gertrude, Gumshoe (17 chapters) July 1, 2018 Gertrude, an older (but not too old) hoarder cat lady, is is search of her missing cat, Tornado. She goes in search of him and winds up finding a dead body. With the help of her neighbor Calvin, solves the case. —— Gertrude, Gumshoe: Murder At Goodwill (18 chapters) July 2-3, 2018 Gertrude is shopping for Christmas presents, when she finds a dead body, with an item next to it. The item disappears and a worker is arrested. Gertrude believes he is innocent. She sets out to prove it. —— Gertrude, Gumshoe And the VardSale Villain (20 chapters) July 3-4, 2018 Gertrude is visited by a character from a previous story. His girlfriend is missing and asks Gertrude to help. Other women wind up missing too. A virtual yard sale seems to be the link. Gertrude sets out to solve the case, but ends up being in a sticky situation and contemplates ending her gumshoe business. —— There were three things I really liked about this series: 1) it’s clean and wholesome (whatever that means;) 2) Gertrude loves cats; 3) Gertrude is spunky and smart and gives older folk a good name. Here’s a bonus like: they are super-duper short, but well paced and very compact so that I am getting a really good plot and characters without useless filler. I learn a little more about Gertrude in each book, and she grows and is willing to change with the times. AND: she keeps learning. If you haven’t figure it out: I love this series, and hope to continue reading it. I am not a fan of older lady/men stories, but this series is appealing to me, and I think a wide range of readers will enjoy them. Four stars.
