Ray Aldridge takes us to the Gulf Coast where a woman drifting aimlessly through life in an abusive job meets a strange man whose memories are taken from others in “Filter Feeders”, and Dean Wesley Smith gives us a memorable seasonal fantasy where a bar owner gives some of his friends a second chance at Christmas via his “Jukebox Gifts”. A street person who appears delusional because he sees orcas and dolphins with hands in trenchcoats planning to take over Earth is vindicated in Robert A. Metzger’s paranoid “Planet Of The Dolphins”, while Jack McDevitt shows us “Standard Candles” - a means of measuring distance to stars by their constant brightness - but it is also a metaphor for Carlisle’s career and marriage. Finally L. Timmel Duchamp tells us through a series of unearthed emails in the future about “When Joy Came To The World” - a rain of germ plasm that transforms the planet. Good issue.
