Following the lovely introduction this book is divided into the sections listed below. It's clear and easy to read, all the recipes are listed at the start of each section so it's easy to find what you're looking for. I can see why dates are used but they just don't work for me. Also the book itself is called Natural Feasts so I expected some group pictures of people enjoying the food but there's so many it began to feel like filler. I received an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I liked the layout and a number of the recipes and appreciated the appealing pictures. I also liked that most of the dishes are approachable for the average cook--no difficult techniques, specialized equipment or ingredients needed. I bookmarked a number of the morning recipes and the Caramelized Banana Bites are a fun addition to a number of recipes (the author recommends them with oatmeal or her blueberry pancakes). I was impressed with the Thyme Fried Mushrooms, Maple-Roasted Root Veg, Chickpea Chili in Baked Sweet Potatoes, Spicy Baked Avocado Fries, and Almond Butter Rocky Roads. I should also add that the sweet dishes rely heavily on dates, which I happen to like, but not everyone does. Two things I found distracting were the frequent references to "skeptical" friends (I assumed she meant people who don't like vegan recipes) and the abundance of pictures of the author and her friends/family eating or preparing food. I prefer recipes and pictures of the finished dishes, so the extra images didn't enhance the reading experience for me. I was also turned off by her suggestion to keep some ingredients secret from people you're serving the food too. Not only is that unwise due to the prevalence of food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances, but if someone really dislikes a particular ingredient, no matter the reason, a hostess hiding it from them seems inappropriate. I don't recommend it.

A word of advice to chefs who are in the process of creating a cookbook intended for the public: if you have a section called "light and easy," the recipes should not have more than 10 ingredients and require over an hour of prep. To me, "light and easy" means "three ingredients and five minutes of prep." Other than that, the recipes in Natural Feasts look pretty yummy. So long as you live near a Whole Foods and have a whole lot of time on your hands. One of the best vegetarian cookbooks I've come across in ages. We're not vegetarians but like to have at least one veggie day each week. This is a very broad and varied range of recipes with a leaning towards spicy / comfort food which we enjoy. I'm looking forward to cooking many of these recipes over the next few weeks. My mouth is watering at the thought! Thanks to NetGalley and Scribner for a free review copy. One of the best vegetarian cookbooks I've come across in ages. Agh, this is a tough review to write. The cookbook itself isn't bad or anything, but it personally just didn't do it for me. The positives: - gorgeous, gorgeous photos. Like. I want to weep at how beautiful the photography is and then I want to put the prints all over my house. - very well done introduction (which to me is super important in a specialized cookbook!! Especially vegan ones!!!!) and lots of good information given for newbies to the kitchen/plant-based eating. Also has a detailed ingredients list, which I was delighted to discover has several ingredients I've never even heard of. So I learned stuff which is exciting - truly, the recipes are nothing to scoff at. They are well developed and presented in a way that motivates the reader to want to attempt to recreate what's on the page, and there are some outstanding creations that the author has published in this book The........eh: - the photos, however beautiful, were way too numerous. If they were mostly photos of the food and dishes themselves I wouldn't be here with this comment, but most of the photos in this book were of the author and her friends just chillin. Lifestyle photos are fine in cookbooks, but once they get to this amount I get like 1) "are you trying to sell me your food?...or what I'm supposed to ~look~ like while eating your food?" 2) "are these photos just fluff to take up space in a book that you didn't have enough recipes to fill up?" - THIS IS JUST A PERSONAL THING FOR ME: there are a few stunner recipes that I am 100% without a doubt going to try, but most of these recipes I wouldn't make myself. Not the kind of stuff I'm interested in making, evidently. (they aren't bad or anything! Just not sparking my personal interest!) - ANOTHER PERSONAL THING: the *vast majority* of these recipes contain coconut in some form. For those with tree nut allergies, you'll have to do a ton of substituting so you won't die from all the coconut products the author uses. For those (freaks, I guess, since so many vegheads are obsessed with the goddam coconut) like me who strictly believe that coconut only belongs in 1) alcoholic beverages and 2) macaroons, ya f***ed. Still, I am honored to have had the opportunity to read this cookbook. It is beautifully designed, and even if you aren't super interested in the recipes listed, just to flip through it is a journey and you will be sure to enjoy it. AND IT'S VEGAN WHICH IS THE BEST PART. We love plants 🌱 Long story short: this cookbook isn't for me, but it was a delight to read and I'm sure that others who pick up this book will truly enjoy what it has to offer. Out October 17th!

Book reviews on www.snazzybooks.com As my partner is vegetarian and I try to stick to veggie meals too, this kind of cookbook - veggie whilst still being healthy and inspirational - really struck a chord with me. As soon as you start you'll be struck by the absolutely gorgeous photos, and I always appreciate clear, lovely images in a cookbook. The recipes themselves are ideal for anyone trying to cut out meat (either in part or completely) and stick to more natural, sans-additive dishes, as they offer a wide selection of options for breakfast/ brunch, lite bites, dinner and desserts. I usually find myself skipping through the breakfast items as they're often the same uninspiring ideas, but in Natural Feasts Ella presents some interesting ideas which are again split into different sections based on the type of breakfast they are - think 'grab & go' for home-made breakfast bars, 'sweet brunch' for- you guessed it - sweet stuff, and 'the new english' for English Breakfasts with a twist, plus others toov (including smoothies, which never hugely excite me, but still)! I tried the spiced potato cakes and really enjoyed them; they'll be easy to cook with a twist on depending on my breakfast mood! I am usually most interested in the dinner options, and I always go through recipe books and put a bookmark next to those I think I'd actually make. If a book has lots of bookmarks it's a good indication that it contains recipes that are actually a) appealing and, for me, b) not too tricky or time-consuming to make. Natural Feasts, I'm pleased to say, have many - and plenty of lovely photos to inspire too! I must admit that some of the dishes don't look hugely filling to me, but I do have a big appetite so that's always circumstantial! Though a lot of the pages are filled with pictures, so you're perhaps not getting as many recipes as you'd think, this is a solid cookbook for anyone looking to eat more healthily, without compromising on taste or simplicity. Many thanks to the publisher for providing an ARC of this book on which I chose to write an honest and unbiased review.

I usually cook a meatless meal a couple of nights a week so I looked forward to maybe getting a few ideas from this book. Pros Nicely categorised with some tasty looking main meals, particularly within the feast section. (Do try the Indian style recipes, very tasty indeed.) Cons There is no Glossary. The norm in most cookbooks these days and, I believe, essential. I like to have a full glossary to explain each ingredient and its possible substitute. For example, which type of coconut oil is the healthiest choice? Especially as it seems to be a controversial food product these days. I would like to know how to substitute those ingredients which are unavailable to me where I live, how much vanilla extract equates to two teaspoonsful of vanilla powder? There is no Pantry list. A suggested shopping list of ingredients to keep on hand would be handy for someone embarking on a plant based diet. Lastly, and my biggest grouch is why, oh why are nutritional values not stated? This is a book about healthy eating, readers need to know if the protein/fat/carbohydrate content of a meal is balanced. I found this omission very odd. Summary I’m afraid I was underwhelmed and a bit disappointed with this book, maybe my expectations were too high, but this book did not provide me with the information I have come to expect from a modern cookbook. Ella needs to give her readers more information for their money. Review copy provided by Hachette Australia

This cookbook aligned well with my cooking preferences, being healthy, plant-based, and full of flavorful recipes. There are 100 individual recipes, no skimping and throwing in a bunch of simple, two ingredient recipes to pad the content. Author Woodward does seem to have ingredients that she favors (cauliflower, sweet potato) and that appear in several recipes, but I did not mind because those recipes were distinctly different dishes. Breakfast bars looked easy and delicious. Woodward's take on Spring Rolls (nameharumaki), called Summer Rolls, is original and looks incredible. I definitely snagged a few ideas to try. Now for the not-so-good: the photographs. Some of the photos were fine, but many were taken from odd angles, or seemed too dark, over bright, or the colors seemed a little off. I felt like a stalker was taking the photos, as often the women in them did not seem to be aware of the camera! Some were taken through windows, or were foggy, blurry, or shot from below or above (where was the photographer hiding/hanging?). Healthy recipes, with easily obtainable ingredients, and nothing frighteningly exotic. Great for families, and for home cooks of all skill levels. **eARC Netgalley**

This book is tone deaf in that all of Ella's friends pictured in this book are young, beautiful, well-off, able-bodied, and Caucasian. I only recently change my diet to exclude meat. And I have a hubby that still eats meat. So I have been on the search for yummy non meat meals that will please us both.

I am not a foodie. I hate cooking. I do feel like I could make everything in this book. That said I feel like it’s a mix of why would I need a recipe book for that and I don’t want to put that much effort into cooking.

Take for example the Charred Coconut Corn. Two ingredients, both in the name of the recipe. I feel like that is way too simple even for those, like me, who don’t really cook. So simple that I am kind of offended it is taking up so much space in the book (if my review copy is accurate, that’s three pages with the recipe and pictures). On the other hand, take the tomato & eggplant bake for the feast section. Looks and sounds delicious. But when someone like me sees a list of 20+ ingredients, I instantly see both a lot of work and an overly high grocery bill (yes, some of that is spices and you’ll use them again but still if you don’t already have them then those spices + the things like eggplants and butternut squash and multiple cans of tomatoes all adds up really quickly). My favorite recipe here seems to be the Sun-dried tomato & butter bean hummus, but I am not sure it’s something so unique that I would buy this book for it.

I’ve finally settled on 3/5 stars. The foods are fine. The recipes and instructions are fine. But, this book is either too simplistic or too advanced. I need somewhere in the middle so I don’t see myself buying this book personally as it’s just not a good fit for me.

My first cook book with recipes from Ella and so far my most favourite one. I am not vegan, but I don't mind meat free meal. Gorgeous food photography. And I'd love to try a number of these recipes (not sure I'd like to MAKE them, because I'm not much of a cook- but I want someone to make them for me, lol). I have no idea where to purchase a few of the ingredients. Fenugreek seeds? I've heard of them but never seen them. But for many of the recipes you probably won't need to visit a specialty grocery. Natural feasts is in many ways, a creative cookbook for persons interested in vegetarian and gluten-free diets. I was surprised at the high ratio of photographs to recipes. The number of pages led me to believe there would be more recipes. Yes, the food photographs are well done but I could have done without all the supplementary images of happy people either eating or relaxing near food. Growing up, our veggie recipes are usually pretty bland. I want you to picture canned green beans with garlic (sans salt and butter) or a microwaved potato. Wasn't convinced by the overly healthy trend of this book, but I really enjoyed the recipes! Ideas are simple enough but tastiness is on point. This must be my favourite Deliciously Ella book! It's packed with so many yummy, gluten-free recipes! And the best thing? As it's targeted for groups of people, it's perfect for meal planning for your week ahead. I found that it not only saves a lot of money from the food budget, but it also helps me with staying healthy throughout the week ! I've only tried handful of recipes (my favourite one is the Chickpeas Chilli with Spiced Cauliflower), but I will continue on reaching for this book time a This must be my favourite Deliciously Ella book! My View: Ella Mills (Woodward) is my go to author for great plant based recipes. I eat a balanced diet, a little bit of everything with a healthy a spin 90% of the time. If you’re having a real sceptic for dinner or trying to get an unconvinced family member to try a healthier meal, then always cook something that looks and feels familiar to them. Choose a classic dish with a healthy spin on it. Something like the Indian feast in this book with bowls of coconut rice, chana masala and aloo gobi. This is a perfect meal and your guests are never going to look at this and think ‘What is that, it looks terrifyingly healthy!’ and decide they don’t like it before they try it, plus it is really satisfying and hearty, which means everyone will go home full. So remember to go easy on everyone, don’t leap straight to raw food, or anything too unfamiliar and scary looking.” P. 11 A great tip Ella, and the Indian feast - perfect – this si a meal that can be enjoyed by all my family and friends alike. A great book full of tasty easy to make recipes that will hold a treasured place in my cook book library.
