Maria nearly got Lucas Jardin/Luc killed in the shoot out two years ago, the same shoot out that Malina took the blame for. Her father is trying to get her to cover for Maria again begging her to take the fall for her drug addicted sister, this time Malina refuses. "You never see her lies, Papa. The rest of us do, but never you. Maria is killing herself and this family, and I refuse to let her destroy my life in the process." Joe, Malina's brother gets wind of his parents plan to make her take the wrap for Maria's latest drug charges and hatches a plan to keep her safe. It just so happened Joe and Luc had become friends after that first incident so Joe uses Luc's hatred of Maria to keep Malina safe. Luc kidnaps Malina believing it's Maria with plans to extract revenge by making her work hard on his ranch. I really liked when they first got to the ranch with Luc still believing Malina is Maria but not understanding why she seemed so different and why he is so attracted to her. I like the fun banter between Luc and Melina and Mason the cat brought some light hearted fun and giggles. So this was a jam packed little novella, it had a bit of everything and I really enjoyed it. Yes it was a little OTT but in a good way, there could have been a little more 'loving' but hey couldn't there always in saying that what scenes we did get were very steamy. I could have kept reading about Melina and Luc's life on ranch. BOOK 2 - COWBOY AND THE THIEF 3 Give A Little, Get A Little Stars This is kind of connected to book 1, in this one we have Luc's friend and business partner Jack and his story of love. This one had a historical feel with the strong Irish accents and the Castle setting. This was set in the modern day though so that was a little weird. Angel came across as a bit of a stuck up prude to me and Jack was this this up himself playboy who thought everyone should love him. This wasn't for me and if I'm being honest I don't think it was needed. I think Cowboy and the Captive was good enough on it's own. -Alicia, 4 Stars

The problem is that this isn't the first time Melina's sister and parents wanted her to take Maria's place and the first time landed her in jail where she was almost killed. But when Melina refuses and returns home she then finds herself taken hostage by the man whom Maria had dealt with in the past. In the second story of the series, Cowboy and the Thief, Angel Manning finds that her father has sold a precious family heirloom that Angel had counted on owning one day. Angel's mother had told her that the legendary Irish torque would lead her to the man of her dreams one day and she refuses to let her father get away with selling it especially when she finds it went to the notorious Jack Riley so she plans to take back what is rightly hers. Well the first thing I'd say about these two stories is I really just didn't get them at all and perhaps was not the right person to be reading and reviewing them. Starting off with the first story it really had some great ideas that just didn't shake out to where I thought it should. The idea of a twin standing in for another in legal trouble certainly had my interest but then the story took the turn of the kidnapping which might have worked if both parties had realized the mistaken idea and then fell in love but instead it just make me think of stockholm syndrome the entire read. Now as for the second book in the series the writing in this one just didn't seem to gel as well as the first book had. My one positive when finishing book one was that the author had talent but I just hadn't any interest in the story but the second book almost seemed to be by someone else. The story also seemed way off of what the first book was and really neither made me think of sexy cowboys which was the draw to picking this one up to begin with. In the end it became obvious this series is just not for me at all leaving me to rate it at 1.5 stars. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. Cowboy and the Captive - 3/5 stars * Melina Catarina Angeles is a humble, refined and selfless lady compared to her twin sister, Maria Catarina Angeles. She's sick of being used as a pawn and suffering the punishments because of Maria's criminal acts. This time, she refused to take Maria's place and being disowned by her parents was a relief. Her parents are ridiculous and it's unnerving they tolerate Maria's drug addiction. It's unclear why they're still favoring her instead of Melina. I just don't get it and the audacity of them to pull the guilt card to convince Melina to stand in Maria's place..... What a bunch of IDIOTS. * Luc Jardin seeks revenge on Maria for what she did to him and his partner Jack Riley. He kidnapped her and unaware he took the wrong lady. I understand he wasn't able to differentiate Melina and Maria but with so many hints, I think he's not smart enough to recognize it. Cowboy and the Thief - 2/5 stars * I crossed my fingers somehow this will trump the first story because this is about Jack Riley's love life. He went to Ireland to visit his old friend, Joseph Manning. He's a widower and has a beautiful daughter named Angel. Angel was a sweet lady and believes in true love. She's mesmerized with Jack but went she finds out Jack bought the Irish Torque, she wants it back. Jack and Angel's romance was an insta- love. The plot was rushed and at one point, I got bored. Despite of my annoyance with the first story I find its drama more promising. I'm just not hooked with this one. The stories are entertaining and the steamy scenes are good. I'll give this book 3/5 stars.

Cowboy and The Captive: This is an enemies to lovers and a mistaken identity situation. Melina has a twin sister, Maria who is addicted to drugs. Her parents keep guilting Melina into impersonating Maria when she gets caught to get her out of trouble. The problem is Maria is getting in worse situations that Melina can't talk her way out of and it's going to cost her her life. Luc has been buying his time until he can seek revenge on Maria for almost getting him and his friend, Jack killed. Luc doesn't want to hurt her, but he thinks he can straighten her up by kidnapping her and making her detox. What he doesn't know is that he kidnaps Melina instead of Maria. Luc and Melina's story was very entertaining. Lora Leigh has no problems with letting the sparks fly between her main characters. I really enjoyed this one. Cowboy and The Thief: Enemies to lovers trope. Jack is visiting his old friend Joseph in Ireland when he meets his daughter, Angel. Angel is very prim and proper with a hidden temper underneath and no one can get her riled faster than Jack. Joseph is conspiring to get Jack and Angel together and he takes a risk by selling a family heirloom to Jack that is legend to be responsible for granting true love to the daughters in the line. Angel is furious and follows him back to Texas to try and steal it back. Once again, Lora Leigh had the sparks flying in this short novella but I will admit I was a bit confused in the beginning. I couldn't tell if Jack and Angel had already known each other or had just met. I felt like I was missing the true beginning of the story. Still a very entertaining read! ARC provided by NetGalley.

(view spoiler)[ The story is about cowboy Luc and too naïve Melina. FYI things get a bit wacky right from the start with this one but if you don’t mind stretching the boundaries a bit (like me) it won’t distract you from enjoy the story too much :- / So long story short, Melina is an identical twin. She is all light and fluff and goodness while her evil twin is vindictive, shallow, narcissistic and deranged. Her whole life, Melina has been made to feel like second best. With her twin always getting into trouble and her parents always giving in and making excuses for her, Melina gets thrown in as the scrape goat. Meaning whenever Maria (evil twin) got into trouble, Melina would step in and pretend to be her to get her off the hook. Things started innocently enough, with school and social faux pas but Maria plays fast and loose with a drug cartel and not only endangers herself but she almost gets two innocent bystanders killed. Melina is guilt tripped by her crap parents into again impersonating her sister, all the while being promises a lawyer and basically guaranteed a slap on the wrist. What actually ends up happening is that Maria/Melina gets jail time and Melina serves time because her parent’s lawyer never showed and her parents were conveniently “out of the country.” Melina suffers sexual assault in jail by a crazy fellow inmate and is physically and emotionally traumatized by this. But it also opens her eyes to her parents and sister’s little regard for her. Fast forward a two years later and Maria is once again in more legal trouble and Melina finally says no to her parents when they again approach her to step in for her evil twin. Knowing their parent’s won’t take no for an answer, her other brother has Melina kidnapped for her own good. Only the guy who kidnaps her is Luc, the cowboy Maria almost got killed a year ago and the same guy who made sure Maria/Melina served time in jail for her crimes. He thinks he is kidnapping a changed-for-the-better Maria whose family desperately wants her to sober up and get clean. The plan is to keep her on the ranch, teach her to be less snobby and more independent and off any drugs she’s on. It’s a bonus for Luc to see Maria brought down since he’s still chaffing over her reckless behavior last year. What I liked: Luc and Melina were great together. That’s why this left me confuzzled… I liked both Luc and Melina. Luc was kind of a douche in the beginning because he though he was dealing with Maria. But when he starts seeing Melina for who she really is and not who he’s been told she is, he became a decent guy. Melina also grew on me even though normally a naïve h like her would have driven me up the wall. She did a lot of growing up, asserting herself with Luc and challenging him rather than meekly accepting his commands. The story was both sweet and heated and was an entertaining read (even with all the crazy going on.) It’s the safety trigger that leaves me confuzzled. On one side, I liked Luc and Melina together, they were a cute couple with banter and chemistry. On the other, the safety trigger firmly puts this in a “eww’ shelf for me. Would I recommend? Even with my mixed feeling on this one, I would recommended for those not as squimish as me. For some, my safety trigger won’t be a deal breaker and for those readers, definitely give this one a try. It’s a bit nuts but still a good read. SAFETY INFO: (view spoiler)[ Ages: Melina is 22 and a virgin, Luc’s age isn’t mentioned but his age would be between 25-35 years old, if I had to guess. Cheating: None. OM/OW drama: Yes, Maria does cause drama, but not the romantic/sexual kind. More of the crazy psychotic kind. Separation: None. Push/Pull: None. Main Pursuer of relationship: Luc is the main pursuer. Triggers: Maria and Luc meet in the opening scene and she gives him a blow job. Being that the h, Melina is her identical twin, that was just too much of an eww factor for me. This story also has anal play, some bondage and spanking. HEA/HFN: Ends on a HEA with a proposal and a baby on the way. There was no official epilogue but instead a time jump a few months later. (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)] COWBOY AND THE THIEF 4 Stars Jack and Angel fed my love/hate addiction. Yes it was cliche and outrageous but I loved it all the same.(view spoiler)[ No-strings ladies man, Jack gets ensnared by prickly Irish beauty, Angel. From first glance these two had some major chemistry but Angel’s been burned by a ladies man in the past and she sees Jack as just another heartbreaker. She instantly dislikes him but the spark that flares between them are just too irresistible. But when a misunderstanding makes Angel push Jack away again, Jack – with his fair share of male pride – strikes back. Buying her family’s treasure, a necklace said to pair only true soul mates together, Jack taunts Angel with it and forces her out of her safe haven. Traveling to retrieve it from Jack by force if needed, Angel sets out to get back what’s rightfully hers. A not so subtle matchmaker in the form of Angel’s well meaning father, has these two opposites awakening desires and forbidden pleasures within each other that neither imagined. What I loved about it: This is a sizzling hot erotic read and I loved the back and forth, love/hate vibe that added spice to the story. Jack and Angel were funny and entertaining but also managed to develop a real relationship in a short amount of time. The necklace that was passed down to each daughter in Angel’s family was a nice whimsical twist that added some sweetness to an otherwise heavily sensual read. Memorable Moments: I like being surprised and Angel matching Jack kink for kink, was definitely a surprise. It fit her feisty character like a second skin and she really sold it. The most memorable scene has to be Angel attempting to steal back the necklace and getting busted by Jack. Would I recommend? Yes, fans of Lora Leigh will love this duo. Admittedly Jack and Angel were my favorite couple but Luc and Melina’s story had it’s own brand of spice. SAFETY INFO: (view spoiler)[ Ages: I don’t remember if ages are disclosed but Jack is in his thirties and Angel is Cheating: .None. OM/OW drama: .None. Separation: None. Push/Pull:Angel does play hard to get when it comes to Jack. She has some misconceptions about him and his arrogance doesn’t really help his case. It makes for a lot of fighting and making up! Main Pursuer of relationship: Jack pursues Angel from the get go. Her rash judgement of him makes him go around about way of claiming her, but I think he was serious about her from the beginning. Triggers: This has light BDSM, spanking, anal play and D/s play. HEA/HFN: (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)] *** ARC provided for an honest review ***

Jardin is angry, almost stoic, as he plots and executes his revenge. Melina has the truth behind her and as the days pass, they both are going to change their minds about the other… “She might as well get used to being his captive, because she had stolen his heart and there wasn’t a chance he was going to let her leave with it.” Misunderstandings are never a good basis for a relationship yet they swirl around every interaction and conversation these two have. Each believes they have ownership of the Irish torque that holds family history as well magic… The battle is heated and pits them against each other in a battle where winner takes all – including hearts… “I love you, Jack… Now remove these chains before I’m forced to kill you.” These two argued their way through most of this story as they each claimed ownership over an heirloom that would either be the best thing that ever happened to them both – or be their downfall. Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Lora Leigh really knows how to write a story and how to combine two wonderful stories into one book. Rugged Texas Cowboy was a joy to read. Like usual, she kept my attention with suspense and two hot cowboys. In Cowboy and The Captive, Jardin held me captive. He was rough, rugged, sexy as hell and one of the kindest kidnappers I have ever read. Maria was a hoot! She kept trying to tell him that she wasn’t the evil Melina and he just wouldn’t listen. He was rough, rugged, sexy as hell and one of the kindest kidnappers I have ever read. Maria was a hoot! She kept trying to tell him that she wasn’t the evil Melina and he just wouldn’t listen. Ugh … to think her wildest dreams were of this exasperating man! Jardin knew that Melina would be wild in bed and it was his sole intent to get her there … the only problem? She kept insisting she wasn’t Melina. It took one wicked night in bed for him to realize that she just may be telling the truth. A couple of phone calls later and he has his questions answered. He’s also feeling a little better about falling in love with the woman who is not the bane of his existence. In the end, he knows that his life would be nothing without Maria and will do whatever it takes to protect her from the one woman who can’t stand her … Melina. In Cowboy and Thief, Jack really made me smile. He was truly a heart-breaker and really enjoyed women. There was something about the uptight Angel that caught his eye and he would do whatever it takes to get under her skin, get her to show some kind of emotion other than disdain. Buying the torque did just that … now he know just how mad she can get! She’ll get the family heirloom back, even if she has to steal it! Jack knew it was only a matter of time before she came for it and he was ready for her. Now, holding her captive, his heart has other ideas. Now, he doesn’t know if he could let her go and Angel has realized that he may just be the man that she has always been waiting for. Each of these stories were different yet similar. Jardin and Jack are partners in a business and both of them had to either kidnap or hold captive the woman that they both fall in love with. Both Maria and Angel were strong, independent woman and neither needed a man to fulfill their lives. But, the circumstances they were put in makes them dependent on them. Sometimes it infuriated them, sometimes they were happy that they were there. Lora Leigh just has a way with words. She knows how to write a story with just enough intrigue to keep you invested in the story, just enough humor to keep you smiling and a whole lot of sexy to keep you were the one on the receiving end of all that hotness.

This book contains 2 stories that I did some research and were previously published by Ellora's Cave back in 2004 and 2009.  I hadn't read these books prior to this and they are their own little series about two cowboys who co-own a company together and also own ranches.  I guess that about summarizes the connection. In the first story COWBOY AND THE CAPTIVE, both friends are flying their private plane and are seduced into taking on a cargo for a beautiful woman who spells trouble.  Once they land they are ambushed and almost killed because their shipment contained drugs.  Luc has wanted vengeance on this woman for a while and he seems to finally get his chance when her brother sets him up to kidnap her.  I'm going to be honest here... This story had my eyes rolling back in my head a bit from the start.  It certainly feels like the erotic romances of the time this book was published and there is a time and place in my reading for that.  So as long as you go into this story expecting that and not an elaborate romance story with a deep connection, then you'll find it enjoyable. The second story COWBOY AND THE THIEF is about Luc's friend and business partner, Jack.  This was like a completely different series in the fact that it took me a while to make sense of what was going on.  We are thrust into a different setting, Jack Riley is going to stay with his older friend Joe Manning in Ireland.  Joe actually has an agenda and that is he feels Jack is the man who will be his daughter's true love.  There's a bit of fate and supernatural beliefs to the whole thing and this story takes place half in Ireland and half back in Texas.  I cared a lot less for this story.  A lot of it didn't make any sense and I ultimately didn't connect with these characters. Overall, if you are looking for some steamy insta love with some cowboys then you'll want to pick this up.  It wasn't necessarily unique but it was fun to read. *ARC provided by publisher Reviewed by Francesca❤ ♡ Don't want to miss any of our posts? Cowboy and the Captive This is the way a novella is supposed to be written. Plenty of character development, a storyline that is strong and doesn’t feel contrived, lots of steamy chemistry, a small bit of angst and some thriller type drama to wrap it all up. I loved that Luc wanted Melina even when he didn’t know who she really was and had no reason to want her at all. Cowboy and the Thief Another great little read. Didn’t have the angst as the previous one did, but it had the potential to be a full blown novel had the author decided to go that way. She could definitely do a historical romance writing the first warrior’s story – the man who received the torque and started the whole thing. Again, there is plenty of chemistry and steam but this one also included a few BDSM practices. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and reacquainting myself with Lora Leigh’s writing. Three and a half It's been a while since I've read anything by this author who pens such erotic stories so I couldn't resist this book. It's actually two stories with a decidedly western flavour so if hot cowboys appeal to you then well worth a read. The first story is definitely a case of mistaken identity and no mistake. Melina has a twin sister who is not exactly a good girl and she's not adverse to others paying the price. So when Jardin seeks vengeance unfortunately instead of kidnapping Maria he takes her much sweeter sister who has no idea just how sensual her capture will be ! The second story introduces Jack and Angel and would you believe an ancient Druid prophecy? Yes when Jack comes into the possession of a torque that Angel believes should stay in her family she travels to Texas to steal it back but the uptight Irish girl is about to discover that not all cowboys get put away wet ! Short but sexy stories with a very different feel so I think one or even both would certainly entertain romance readers but alas for me not quite enough depth This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

The male characters are confident, powerful, and loveable rogues who are used to getting exactly what they want and struggle a little when they find themselves on the receiving end of some not-so-subtle put-downs from these women who have captured their attention. With danger, desire, and a magical connection, both of these erotic stories are sure to warm you up on these cold winter nights, but there are also some heartbreaking moments too that will pull on your heartstrings, and makes these stories well worth reading. *I voluntarily reviewed this book from Netgalley.com

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads. I have to admit that I didn’t get on terribly well with either of these two stories. The first story starts with a betrayal, a shootout and a kidnapping. It’s a complicated yet exciting premise that still doesn’t completely make sense to me. Beyond the complex plot and overly simplistic characters, it was the whole matter of dubious consent / non consent that really turned me off of this book. Beyond the complex plot and overly simplistic characters, it was the whole matter of dubious consent / non consent that really turned me off of this book. Luc kidnaps a traumatised Melina, a woman who was previously abused in prison, and he immediately pursues a sexual relationship with his prisoner. Call me a snowflake but the whole situation made me squeamish. The second story starts with Angel and Jack on a more equal footing but the slightly exaggerated Irish setting and characters didn’t quite work for me. Back in Texas, Angel’s behaviour is childish and pretty bizarre. Jack’s behaviour is less palatable and his ultimatum (sex or jail) made me really uncomfortable. Outside of a consenting BDSM relationship, his threats of physical punishment for her perceived infractions left me cold. I may be overreacting, but I feel #metoo stories coming out of both of these situations and we do young women no favours with romance writing that glorifies kidnapping, coercion, violence and infantilized women. I remember reading some PNR by Lora Leigh some years back. I think the romance genre has changed a great deal over the past few years and this traditional, more simplistic style of romance now feels incredibly dated. In 2017, I expect interesting, empowered women in romance writing.

Lora Leigh certainly knows how to write a book that immediately draws the reader into the action. This is especially true of the first story, The Cowboy and the Captive. It was a very enjoyable romance that centered around a kidnapping paired with a case of mistaken identity. Complete with loads of family drama, this story had a little bit of everything that makes for a great romance. Exactly what I've come to expect when I pick up a book by this author. I didnt like Jardin, and seriously everyone in Melina's family was a big fat bitch. One extra star for the anal. 2.5/5 Cowboy and the Thief When Jack our second cowboy buys an ancient torque, he never expects the owner's daughter Angel would follow her threats of stealing it back from his promiscuous ass, which leads to them banging while she tries to obtain her legacy. Also the heroine kept diving into accents that were Scottish/Irish and that was a little distracting. This was slightly better than the previous one. LL can write pretty good sex scenes, but things I found sexy at 18 feel a little squeamish at 25, and I found the overdose of baseball like humungous cock, lovely pussy and wet sloppy watering river like cunt a little bit nauseating in all their OTT dirty talk. Overall an average read. 2.75/5 Overall rating. SWE (view spoiler)[ In the first book, the hero is sucked off by the heroines sister. In the second, its not mentioned whether he remained celibate after meeting the heroine or not as hes described as a tomcat. Both remain faithful after they have sex. Neither are virgins. Each story was well-written with good characters but I'd have to say that my favorite of the two is the first story. I'm wondering if the publishers felt the same way and led with the strong of the two stories? Food for thought! Even though Cowboy and the Thief wasn't may favorite and did like it too. Rugged Texas Cowboy is actually two novellas in one, and if you've never read any Lora Leigh's books before, this is your warning, they are highly erotic and for mature readers only. These two short novels are so hot that I was surprised that my Kindle didn't go up in flames. Writing steamy scenes is one of the things Ms. Leigh is known for, and few authors are her equal in that regard. Since I liked the first novella more than the second, book one, Cowboy and the Captive gets 4 stars. Book two, Cowboy and the Thief, wasn't quite as good as book one, and it gets 3 stars from this reader. Book one is about twin sisters, Maria and Melina, one good, one bad. Maria, the bad one, is her parent's favorite daughter, and Melina, the good twin, is sweet, kind and has spent her life taking on the consequences for Maria's bad acts. Maria is a drug addict, and as the novella opens, she's transporting crates, supposedly for charity, across the border from Mexico, using a fledgling private air carrier service, owned by two friends, Luc Jardin and his friend, Jack Riley, who, though suspicious about the contents of the crates, need the money to help keep their business afloat, except that they aren't getting paid, they are being shot at and nearly killed once they land and it's clear that they are carrying drugs. They manage to survive, but they want to get even with Maria. Fast forward two years, and Maria hasn't changed a bit, in fact, her twin sister, Melina, ended doing jail time for her because her parents encouraged, in fact, forced her to impersonate her sister. One week in jail and Melina was nearly raped, severely beaten, and barely survived her injuries, as her parents ignored her pleas and went on vacation rather than help her. Maria is in trouble again, and her parents again expect Melina to again take the rap for Maria, assuring her that all she'll get is a slap on wrist--but Melina is no longer willing to aid and abet Maria's crimes, nor is she willing to suffer the consequences. But the next thing she knows is that she's being kidnapped by Luc Jardin, who has a 2-year old score to settle with her twin, except that Luc didn't even know that Maria had a twin, and he wrongly assumes that Melina is lying and proceeds to punish her as if she really was Maria. He's soon to learn differently, and as he does, this short novel really heats up into one sexy, satisfying read. The second novella, Cowboy and the Thief, is Jack Riley's story. He's in Ireland, visiting Joe Manning, and we're never given a reason for his trip there beyond learning that he's still in partnership with Luc Jardin in the import/export carrier service. How he knows Mr. Manning, and the reason he's in Ireland is never clearly explained. As soon as Jack meets Joe's daughter, Angel, he's attracted to her, and she to him. But Jack is an avowed player, and during the time he spends at the Manning castle, he and Angel strike sparks off each other every time they are in the same room. The backstory involves an ancient legend about an heirloom golden torque that has been passed down for generations, and it's something that Angel expects to inherit, but she's shocked and outraged to learn that her father has sold the precious heirloom to Jack, and once he leaves to return to Texas, Angel is right behind him, planning to steal back the valuable piece and return home with it back in her possession, but, of course, Jack catches her in the act, and holds her hostage on his ranch, threatening to turn her over to the law if she disobeys him. As in the first short novel, proximity breeds a lot of heat, and while Lora Leigh certainly knows how to do that, this story simply didn't hold together as well as the first one. While I don't condone kidnapping a woman as a great way to get to know her, it's certainly a theme that Ms. Leigh has employed in the past. That said, the two novellas in this book are short and steamy reads, and although I much preferred the first story, which had more emotional depth than the second, both were enjoyable, erotic reads, which is what I've come to expect and enjoy in Ms. Leigh's novels. Finally, I must add something that has become a pet peeve of mine, and that is the title of the book, which has nothing to do with the two short novels contained within. While Luc and Jack lived on ranches in Texas, neither of them were depicted as cowboys. Luc raises and sells Clydesdales, but since we never see him working with horses, and because the two interconnected stories are about his and Jack's import/export business, I felt that the title was utterly misleading. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

Rugged Texas Cowboy contains two novellas in one book. The first novella is Cowboy and the Captive and the second is Cowboy and the Thief. Cowboy and the Captive: 1 star This book just didn't work for me on any level. I love a good erotic book and I don't mind the kidnap trope if done well. The first novella is Cowboy and the Captive and the second is Cowboy and the Thief. Cowboy and the Captive: 1 star This book just didn't work for me on any level. I love a good erotic book and I don't mind the kidnap trope if done well. I didn't find that in this case and couldn't stand the hero and never connected with the heroine. Luc hates Maria and so kidnaps her or so he thinks but ends up with her twin sister (why/how this came about was really confusing - Merlina's brother hires him to kidnap Merlina but makes him think that she is Maria). It was very confusing - why would Luc do this for Maria's sister? What was the motive? Why didn't Merlina's brother just hire a bodyguard? Really you hire a man who hates Maria and have him kidnap Merlina while telling him it's Maria? The whole premise was preposterous! Then Luc treats her like absolute crap including shoving his junk in her face and telling her to suck him right after he kidnaps her. Even though Maria is a drug addict and Melina has no signs of being a drug user and goes through no withdrawal and tells him she is Maria's sister Luc refuses to believe her. All it would take is an internet connection and a quick search to find out that yes Maria has a twin sister but Luc never does this. He tells himself he should hate her but for some reason his "body just wants her." Luc threatens her a lot including threatening her sexually and basically postures a lot but never really follows through with any vengeance. Mostly, he has her cook and clean for him. Meanwhile Melina although she doesn't like the situation can't help but respond to Luc. She wants him even though he's a complete jerk and believes she is her sister. At first she informs him she doesn't want her sister's seconds but then they have sex (even though he still believes she's Maria) and she just forgets about that. I probably could have gotten into this if the characters realized the mistake early but it went on for way to long. Even once Luc and Melina were together he continued to order her around and treat her like a captive. I never believed for one second these two were in love and it was all just a bit weird and not sexy or romantic to me. Cowboy and the Thief: 2 stars I enjoyed this one a little bit more than the first but still felt it was lacking. Jack buy's Angel's family heirloom as a way to get her attention and get through her cold exterior. Angel is furious and vows to get it back no matter what. She breaks into Jack's house but of course he catches her. Jack knows that their is a connection between them and decides he won't let her go until she acknowledges it. Not a lot of character development and instant lust/love but better than the first book. Overall, neither of these books really had anything to do with being a cowboy so the title is definitely a bit deceiving. The characters lacked development and the plot had a lot of holes. If you are looking for some steamy and erotic sex without a believable plot then this book may work for you it just didn't for me. A copy of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

When she nearly gets him and Jack, his friend/business partner killed, Luc vows to teach the spoiled brat a lesson. With the help of her older brother Joe, he decides to kidnap her and get her treated while teaching her a lesson. What he doesn't know is that Maria has an identical twin sister Milena. A woman who may look identical to the devious woman, but who couldn't be more different. Milena fell in love with Luc the moment she saw him at her parent's mansion when he came to confront them about their criminal daughter two years ago. What made it worse was the fact that he thought that she was her sister. The story of her life!!! She is sick and tired of being confused with her evil twin and the fact that her parents have always been on Maria's side makes it even worse. And even though she isn't complaining that much about the fact that the object of her infatuation has kidnapped her and she is somewhere remote, she just can't stomach the fact that he thinks that she is Maria and won't believe her. It doesn't take a lot for this spark to ignite and we are left with a scorching romance that will literally leave you breathless! A perfect Lora Leigh romance! Cowboy and the Thief Angel Manning has grown up listening to the legend of the torque that has been passed from mother to daughter in her family. A torque with a wolf figure that will lead the women of her family to their destined mates and gift them a life of wedded bliss and happiness. She has lost hope in the power of the torque and doesn't believe that she will ever have a happy marriage like the one her parents had. So when the cocky American cowboy who has come to visit her father and stay at their manor buys the priceless heirloom, she is infuriated. She believes him to be unworthy of the torque and can't stand the idea of a playboy owning it. She is determined to get it back - even if she has to go after him to Texas and steal it. Jack Riley spends his days travelling from one destination to another flying his cargo plane. He is a rancher who has no intention of being tied down so why does he feel like he can't live without the violet eyed Irish beauty? He has never met a woman who has so much spirit and even though he keeps on telling himself that he doesn't want commitment, he is finding it increasingly difficult to convince himself. This story is like a cowboy romance with a highland flare. Though instead of a Scottish lass we have an Irish one who has a spirit of a fighter and a determination as strong as steel. This second story is about Luc Jardin's best friend and business partner Jack Riley. These two men are exactly the kind of cowboys that women fantasise about ;) The only problem I have with this novel is that I wish that they were two long novels. I just couldn't get enough!! After a horrible experience for Melina in jail, where her parents ignored her and Maria once again skated by without being punished, Melina decides it's time to stand up for herself - she refuses to take Maria's place again because serious prison time is expected. Jardin is doing what he believes is the right thing. At the direction of Maria's & Melina's brother, Jardin believes that he is doing what is necessary to get Maria off the drugs that are destroying her life and the lives of those in her family. I had a difficult time with Jardin because despite the author's try to paint him as a victim, he was very harsh and mean to Melina and threatened her in a very questionable manner. Even when he started to realize that perhaps he was wrong about her, it didn't really stop. I wish that Melina's brother had gotten more involved - he set everything up and then kind of disappeared. When it all comes to head, it will pit family against family. The question becomes whether or not blood is thicker than love. COWBOY AND THE THIEF 4.5 stars M/F Romance Triggers: Questionable consent Angel has always had a high spirit. She was sent away when she was young in order to learn how to control her spirit. Now that she's all grown up, it's up to her dad to fulfill his dying wife's last wish -help Angel find her soul mate. That's where Jack comes in. Despite his philandering ways, Angel's dad believes he might hold the key to his daughter's heart and he is going to have to break Angel's heart a little in order to get her to see that. Angel can't seem to understand why her dad would warn her away from Jack, but then give him the most precious piece of her mother's history. She's heartbroken and determined that Jack doesn't deserve it and she will get it back somehow. This is where the story gets interesting. Jack manipulates Angel in to his bed and house and they find themselves in each other. However, Angel realizes that she was the unworthy one of her mom's torque and she leaves it with Jack. It's up to Jack to convince Angel that they belong together. However, with Angel resigned to leave it behind, can Jack catch her?

Rugged Texas Cowboy by Lora Leigh Two novellas in one book – Having seen Lora Leigh’s name about for some time I thought this book might be a nice introduction to her writing but perhaps not. This is a story of two friends/business partners in business together as pilots. They take on an iffy job and nearly die in the prologue and then have their romances told in each of the novellas. I have to say that if you are looking for a cowboy romance or one that could possibly maybe happen and is realist Rugged Texas Cowboy by Lora Leigh Two novellas in one book – Having seen Lora Leigh’s name about for some time I thought this book might be a nice introduction to her writing but perhaps not. This is a story of two friends/business partners in business together as pilots. They take on an iffy job and nearly die in the prologue and then have their romances told in each of the novellas. I have to say that if you are looking for a cowboy romance or one that could possibly maybe happen and is realistic then stay away. If, on the other hand, you are looking for some steamy scenes with more of a fantasy feel then this might work for you – sadly I didn’t really fall for either hero or heroine of these stories. COWBOY AND THE CAPTIVE Luc Jordan kidnaps the woman who set him up in the prologue – or thinks he does – and has the blessing of her brother to do so. I had trouble with more than one thing in this story from the parents adoring Maria and using Melina as her scapegoat to the instant attraction she felt the first time she saw Luc…before the kidnapping. Not my cup of tea…though I don’t mind a bit of bondage and other things that happened in this book IF in the right context with consent of both parties. COWBOY AND THE THIEF Jack Riley ends up in Ireland where he buys a family heirloom with magic powers. Angel Manning, the daughter of the seller of the heirloom, is incensed by the purchase and heads off to steal it back. This book again has some questionable interactions in the bedroom and a romance I found unbelievable…the only thing I can say is that necklace must have had STRONG magical properties to see the Jack and Angel together at the end. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 1-2 Stars

Beautiful, spirited Angel Manning has always longed to experience the power of her ancestors’ most precious heirloom. Her mother once told her that the legendary Irish torque would lead Angel to the one man worthy of possessing her heart. But when Angel learns that her father, now a widower, has sold the torque to the notorious two-timer Jack Riley, she is furious. Of course she plans to take back what is rightfully hers, by whatever means necessary. But the fate of the ancient Druids works in mysterious ways. . .Could it be that this slick, smooth-talking cowboy was destined to satisfy Angel’s deepest desires all along? This book is a re-release of 2 stories that came out a number of years ago. As with many of these author’s stories, they are full of steamy scenes. I really liked the stories and all of the characters. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~ These two novellas which feature best friends Luc and Jack. In the first Luc skirts a very fine line for me, but I trusted that he would redeem himself. I liked the plot of the set-upon twin, and would happily have exiled her terrible parents. It was undoubtedly hot and steamy, but I think some readers will be affected by the early scenes. Jack has some role in the story, but there is no overlap. Jack is now a lone wolf, as Luc is happily settled. On a visit to Ireland he may also have found his match - not that he has any intention of acknowledging it. When the time comes they have an incendiary encounter, from which they may never recover. It has a similar tone to the first book, but there is some fun repartee between the two of them.
