Is there anything higher than 5 stars? Look, I'm a little bit in love with Kate Kane. And by "a little bit", I mean a lot! I adore her and this reads a bit like a #0 because it doesn't introduce a lot of what's to come in the series. It mainly does a summary of her life before this series and that was so fantastic! Bennett's writing and the art fit so well together! You get a great idea of who Kate is as a person and why she became Batwoman. Ahh!! I just loved this so much! I liked this, but it felt more like a preview or something you'd get on Free Comic Book Day instead of a #1. I liked this, but it felt more like a preview or something you'd get on Free Comic Book Day instead of a #1.

If you're at all familiar with Batwoman, either in Preboot, N52, or Rebirth, you can easily skip this. If you're not, it's a nice, concise summary of her history. I myself was rather bored because it was so repetitive of what I've already read, but it'll most likely serve as a good jumping-on point for new readers. A great starter. But I swear to god, if DC won't do a Rebirth for Martian Manhunter, Dr. Fate, or the Question, then Renae Montoya (sp?) better show up as the Question or I will sue! This is more of a quick overview of what Kate's been up to and the events leading up to Batwoman's origin. It sets context for issue 2, which seems to be where the actual story will begin. Treat this like a zero issue. That said, there are a few delicious treats in here... Like how Kate's just as good as Renee Montoya at getting around ;D This is more of a quick overview of what Kate's been up to and the events leading up to Batwoman's origin. This seems promising but it should have been a #0 issue, not the first official one. Let's hope the rest is less all over the place. This seems promising but it should have been a #0 issue, not the first official one. Let's hope the rest is less all over the place.

I was told this was good and it does look promising. Although these "Rebirth #1" issues are apparently all painfully vague, I guess. But yeah I'm sold on Kate Kane lesbian ex-soldier turned vigilante. Also I should look up what Batwoman appeared in before this in the Rebirth stories. I know she was in some of the other Gotham comics and now I'm curious. I was told this was good and it does look promising. Bit of a tough call on this one as it was more of a clip show/greatest hits of Elegy. Now, that is an amazing Batwoman story. Are these shoes too big to fill or will it be a cheap imitation? Here's hoping that the actual run of Rebirth Batwoman will be both creative and intriguing. Bit of a tough call on this one as it was more of a clip show/greatest hits of Elegy. Did I give this 5 stars because Batwoman is a lesbian? Yes. Also, the artwork? Amazing. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

Won't Lie to you , I had been waiting a long long time for this Rebirth to take place , the idea of Batwoman vs the League of shadows was also exciting for me . This however was just sort of a teaser or a trailer to what we should expect from the Batwoman issues in the near future . The book hints at some really fascinating events to some real eye-roll-worthy ones , The art looks good enough to hold on it's own and not get any criticism , fair or unfair , labelled it's way . Having wandered from comics for a few years I kept up reading about what was taking place while still not reading the comics coming out. One item of note was that there was a new Batwoman in town and this time rather than be a love interest for Batman she would be a lesbian as well as Jewish in an attempt to diversify characters at DC. To my knowledge this wasn’t the first time a lesbian appeared in a comic but being the world of Batman it made a splash. Introduced during their 52 saga with her own series following it seems like the character garnered sales with the announcement of who she was and her sexual situation but never really took off afterwards. Still, sales were enough to continue using the character and now with the Rebirth storyline going on she’s back again. This book collects the story to date with us learning more about Kate Kane aka Batwoman and her life prior to her return to Gotham. It is a year unaccounted for but that we now learn about. Shipwrecked off Coryana, an island known to be a safe haven for criminals of all sorts, she is taken in by its unofficial queen, Safiyah. Not only does she mend physically and mentally, she also because entangled romantically with her benefactor to the displeasure of Tahani, an earlier lover and rescuee of Safiyah. We learn most of this in flashback as the real nature of the story is about Kate returning to Coryana, now controlled by a major corporation known as the Kali Corporation. When Kate left it resulted in Safiyah leaving as well and with no one to protect the island from outside interference Kali came in. But the corporation is a front for a terrorist organization that Tahani, now called Knife, belongs to. And their intentions for Coryana are not near the noble goals that they claim. The artwork here is quite good and does the Batman family proud. The story is more involved than one would expect with less concern about action and detective work than it is about the personal history of Kate Kane. While not overly indulgent there is plenty or romance involved here. Those who find this offensive will surely be so but others will understand this is a story about something that happens in life. It’s real. At the same time this is a different type of Batman story in that most of his adventures had little to do with romance though it popped up on occasion. Kate Kane is an interesting characters and this compilation of issues could make a nice starting point for those interested to learn more about her and her past. Well put together my only issue with the compilation is the sudden departure at the end. Not reading comics on a weekly basis perhaps I missed something but we change for the Coryana story to one of a future where a Batman-like fascist regime has taken over half of Gotham, marching bootjacks and all, and Kane has returned to take on this new Batman. The complete 180 in storyline with only one issue covering this made me wonder what was going on. Other than that the books is solid.

I wanted to like this, especially since I've been enjoying Detective Comics, Rebirth, in which Batwoman plays a prominent role. I also can't help but be drawn to the character of Batwoman. Although this was entertaining, and I like the idea of including lesbian relationships in mainstream comics like it's not a big deal, this was poorly executed. The art quality wasn't near the standard as some of the other flagship DC Rebirth titles, and despite being written by a woman, the stress on the love I wanted to like this, especially since I've been enjoying Detective Comics, Rebirth, in which Batwoman plays a prominent role. Now, instead of two hot chicks fighting over a guy, it's two hot chicks fighting over a girl? This is not better, especially since it just seems like an excuse for action cat fights, at least one of which included grabbing Batwoman by the red hair (wig) and slamming her against a wall. :/

More than anything, I’m just happy to have the only lesbian superhero lead in the DC world back. Hopefully one day Batwoman will get a Patty Jenkins to give her the adaptation to the screens she deserves. 🤞 Now, on to volumes 2 and 3!

This is one of those cases where you need to have a strong background in a character to really get what the story is trying to say. I don't, having only recently picked up Western comics. I've mostly read New 52 Batwoman, and not even all of it (such as it is). There were so many references being made that would probably have had emotional impact if I'd known them, that instead left me puzzled. The story was a little disjointed, with timehopping for no apparent reason (to me, unless that's just This is one of those cases where you need to have a strong background in a character to really get what the story is trying to say. The art was lovely, the writing otherwise solid.

So not read much on Batwoman before - lots on Catwoman so this was a departure for me. What a great read however. This is a great place to start if you are unfamiliar with her story as it gives a lot of background.....and shows her past. Brilliantly written and a captivating story that did not flag and kept me engrossed all the way to the end. I am now hooked and an avid fan. This story leads the reader to believe there will be a lot more to come and this is merely an introduction....I certainly So not read much on Batwoman before - lots on Catwoman so this was a departure for me. $2.99 for a comic? I love it. This is a prequel?/recap of Batwoman. I am not very familiar with Katherine Kane so stories like this are made for me. There is a little bit of action, a bit of mystery, and lots of characterization. I love the big villain who is introduced; they have a real Cobra Commander vibe to them. I am looking forward the this series.

This didn't do anything for me. I love Batwoman's costume but that is about it. First, there were so many advertisements that it felt they were equal in number to the story pages. There is a lot of talk and not much action. The story seems headed in a political thriller type direction which doesn't interest me. This didn't do anything for me. When I first read this all the jumping around really messed with my head and I felt like I was missing pages smack in the middle of the book. I just re-read a digital copy and with the guided format I no longer felt that way and I am hoping for better story lines to come.
