Well, this is how you do a mini-series! Take note, Elle James and Jenna Kernan! The plot has Walt Riley, part of some combined task force in Colorado, going undercover with Hannah Dietrich to find her baby niece, who she believes is with a cult that her sister joined. Her sister has died, possibly under mysterious circumstances, and she is the designated carer in her sister's will. This is the same cult as was found in Myers' last book, Murder In Black Canyon, whose charismatic leader Daniel Metwater is holding more than a few secrets! I took a star off because it was very hard to get past the fact this involves a civilian going undercover as part of an official law investigation. It just wouldn't happen! Also, the climax wasn't quite as good as what had come before it. However, like the previous book, this manages to stand alone, despite being part of a larger story-line. I had all the answers I needed at the close of this book, but with other possible story-lines up in the air for future books. I must say, Daniel Metwater is quite the intriguing villain, and I look forward to more books with him in it! The main characters were likable, even though there didn't seem to be much depth to them. I particularly liked the supporting character of Phoenix. She had quite the history, and was actually more interesting than Walt and Hannah! But that's not a negative. I really like it when a romance can give us intriguing secondary characters along with a hero and heroine who are easy to get behind! This book only solidifies my dislike of Elle James and Jenna Kernan not delivering cohesive mini-series. Undercover Husband, despite the lame title, is a fast-paced and suspenseful romantic thriller. The tension builds confidently from start to finish. Certain plot points took me by surprise - at times I didn't know what to expect next! That's always a good thing. I found the characters interesting and engaging. I look forward to further books in the series. I read it in one go! This is what an Intrigue book should be.

Good book. The Ranger Brigade task force continues to investigate the cult called "The Family". This time a woman has come to them asking for help finding her infant niece. Hannah's sister died after spending time with the cult, naming Hannah as the baby's guardian, but the members claim to know nothing about either one. Without proof, the Ranger Brigade's hands are tied. Walt comes up with the idea of he and Hannah posing as a couple who wants to join the "Family" while they search for the proof needed. I liked both Hannah and Walt. Hannah is the older sister, and feels guilty about not being what her sister needed when she was pregnant and grieving. She is determined to find Joy and be the mother that Emily would have wanted her to be. Hannah is determined, stubborn and a little short on patience. She also has cut herself off from relationships, events from her past convincing her that she doesn't deserve to be happy. Her attraction to Walt is unexpected. Walt is fairly new to the Ranger Brigade and is just getting used to the job. He joined the Brigade as a way to put some distance between himself and his brother, who married Walt's former girlfriend. Walt is honorable, kind, and sympathetic to Hannah's distress. He is also attracted to her. I enjoyed the development of their relationship. There are sparks between them from the beginning, but they try to subdue them in the interest of their investigation. Hannah finds that she's relieved when she discovers that Walt will be the agent posing as her husband when they infiltrate the camp. Both of them sense the connection they have as they prepare for their mission. I liked seeing how quickly they became comfortable with each other. That comfort was especially important when they got to the camp and had to deal with the suspicions of the members. They grow closer as they depend on each other for support and safety. Walt is especially protective of Hannah and finds himself in hot water because of it. A run-in with the Prophet's enforcer puts both of them in a dangerous situation. The struggle to survive brings them even closer, as each realizes that their attraction has grown into more. Walt's love helps Hannah move forward from the past that has kept her avoiding relationships and they are able to find their future together. The suspense of the story was good. The cult made their first appearance in the previous book, Murder in Black Canyon. The cult leader is definitely creepy with his way of mesmerizing his followers. It is obvious from the beginning that he is hiding something regarding Hannah's sister and her baby. Hannah does a really good job of figuring out the truth and getting help from a surprising source. They also are looking for information about a missing woman, and the discovery of a grave in the woods has Walt disobeying cult rules and getting word to the Brigade. This puts him on the outs with the leadership and gets him attacked and left in the woods. His determination to get back and save Hannah from whatever they have planned for her is impressive and the final confrontation is intense and dangerous. While there is partial success in their mission, the Prophet is still free to continue his activities. I'm really looking forward to him going down and finding out just what he has been up to.

I just have to mention - that cover! It is so perfect! First of all, he is gorgeous, and secondly, and maybe more importantly, it fits into the story so well! I really enjoyed this story, Undercover Husband has a palpable fear and a constant threat of danger that had me curling my toes and holding my breath. The cult - the Family - that the series is focusing on, it is giving out such strong vibes of peril and menace. That instability, danger, fearsome followers of the leader, it is tangible in the air. Special Agent Walt Riley is the new guy in the Ranger Brigade and with his less recognizable face the perfect candidate to go undercover to find more about the cult, and investigate the missing persons' cases, kidnapped baby, and uncertain circumstances around a death of a young woman. Walt is a solid character, he is capable, cool-headed, smart, savvy, and good with kids. His attraction to Hannah is fast but believable. He has faced a rather devastating heartbreak in his past but is willing to risk it again for the right woman. Hannah Dietrich is a smart career woman who can come off a bit cold at first, but she has a fiery heart for those she loves and is willing to do anything to protect them and care for them. She carries guilt inside her for her past, keeping her distance from the possibilities of romance and love yet the attraction she feels for Walt is unavoidable if she just dares to take the risk. The danger Walt and Hannah are in enhances the bond between them and the feelings they have for each other take root rapidly. A greatly entertaining story with a splendid balance of intense danger and sweet, clean romance. The series has a hook on me, it is rather addictive reading. It keeps the interest to the big picture of the Ranger Brigade investigation of the cult, the Family, yet satisfyingly solving each individual case as they come along. An ideal selection for the summer reading list! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

Cindi Myers' book, Undercover Husband, has a plot unlike any I've ever read before. Hannah Dietrich decides to go undercover in a cult to discover the truth about her sister Emily's death and the whereabouts of her baby niece. Bureau of Land Management special agent Walt Riley agrees to go with her and pose as her husband. This book kept me turning the pages until I finished it in one sitting. It has interesting characters and lots of things happening. Cindi Myers' book, Undercover Husband, has a plot unlike any I've ever read before. Too insta-love and too unbelievable when Hannah and Walt go undercover. Talk about a couple of stormtroopers.
