For most Pagans of any denomination, Yule is a high holy season. The ancient festival was a 12 daylong celebration beginning on the eve of the Winter Solstice (known to most Pagans as Yule) and ending at the new calendar year. This celebration was so important in ancient times that it was converted by the Christians to the 12 Days of Christmas. Many Pagans, especially those devoted to the Norse and Anglo Saxon Gods and Goddesses try to find some way to keep these 12 days, yet many are unsure exactly how to celebrate. Social media blows up in the weeks leading up to the Solstice with questions like: How do you celebrate? What do you do exactly? What activities, what rituals, what prayers and celebrations? For the past several years I have been working on this guide in an attempt to answer some of those questions for my own family and for others. This guide is a result of creating family traditions for this special and most sacred (not to mention FUN!) time of year. I put it all together into one little, handy and easy to follow guide, so that you and your family can celebrate the 12 Days of Yule together, with a little inspiration from what our family has been doing. Please enjoy!

As those who follow along with my reviews know, the 2020 pandemic has provided me a sneak preview of sorts for how dreary the holidays are likely going to be for me as a single childless atheist, once my end-of-life parents are no longer with us; and that's had me interested in creating some brand-new secular holiday traditions for myself, and I'm starting by turning to books on Yule and the Winter Solstice for hopeful inspirations on rituals, foods, decorations and more. And when it comes to this, Jenn Campus' A Guide to Celebrating the 12 Days of Yule is pretty much as straight on-brand as anyone would ever want, a sensible and plainly written guide from this pagan wife and mother on how she and her particular family celebrate this ancient time of celebration and introspection. It's a short book, one I would've never read if I hadn't gotten to do so for free through the Kindle Unlimited program (in fact, that was the impetus behind signing up for Kindle Unlimited in the first place, to burn my way through the 20 books they have on the subject of Yule); but unlike many books of this type, no words are wasted in this one, an information-packed look at the various foods, drinks and traditions of this time of year, some of which go back literally to Stonehenge and beyond. If you too are looking for such guidance and inspiration, take it from me when I say that this is one of the better ones offered at Amazon.

This was a quick and enjoyable read. I really appreciate that the recipes were gluten free, easy to follow and minimal ingredients (makes me more likely to try making them).

I decided to purchase and keep this book (after reading it for free on Kindle) because I really liked the variety of activities the author shares. Yes, there are explicitly Heathen traditions and observances - which I value - but also days which are focused on family, or nature, or cleaning. The overall message to me was the encouragement to go through the days in a mindful way. It has inspired me to create rituals and observances which fit my family, lifestyle, and faith.

This book by Jenn Campus is a delightful feast of Yule-inspired goodness. Although it is a short book, Campus packs in a lot of solid information about Yule. She includes recipes, activity ideas, and more. This book would be especially good for a pagan parent who wants to incorporate some family-friendly holiday fun into their lives. Although Campus focuses on Nordic and Germanic traditions, I am sure that many pagans will simply adore this book.

Why? It very basic book not much detail. Wish it had more time and info put into it. But good solitary book.

Having finally given up Christmas as a hopeless cause, I adopted Yule as a saner event. I found this book informative and inspirational. I've been a pagan most of my life and felt subjected to celebrating a holiday that had nothing to do with my beliefs. It's nice to see so many wonderful books appearing on shelves that cover Yule and Solstice. I recognize many of the recipes more as seasonal than actually relating only to a given holiday. Super! I really enjoyed this book and came away with lots of ideas for expanding our winter celebrations beyond the Solstice, Christmas Eve and Christmas day. I enjoyed the time of the book and that it encourages flexibility in order to meet each family's unique needs. Wonderful ideas too for preparing for the new year. But most important is always enjoying the time with loved ones. Super! Only read if it's free This book is a confusing mash of Norse and Christian ideals that can only vaguely be related to some neo pagan beliefs. Other than that, the writing flows well and it's easy to follow. It could be a decent guide if you're at a loss for how to celebrate with a group or want some fresh ideas. A great little book - lots of good ideas! I want to transition more to celebrating the seasons instead of the Christmas insanity. I like the simple grateful practices of this style of celebrations of life.

Great ideas I won’t likely do all the things in this book, or in the sequence written, but I might take some of these to do with my family.
Emma –
This was a nice and short read. It had some nice information and some fun looking activities. It definitely helped me expand my understanding of Yule. Not much more to say, short book-short review.
