This is a great story to help children deal with the loss of a loved one. Mick and his grandpa Josh are best of friends. His grandpa is always telling him wonderful stories. He promises to come back the next day and tell him another story. When grandpa doesn't show up he doesn't understand. He asks his parents if his grandpa is flying in his spaceship. They tell him yes. Death is a difficult subject to discuss with a child. This book is one to share with a child who has just lost a loved one. This is a great story to help children deal with the loss of a loved one. A lovely story introducing death to young children and showing them that even thought their loved one is gone, they’re with us always, in our hearts and happy memories “flying amongst the stars in their spaceships”.

APPROACHING THE SUBJECT OF DEATH WITH CHILDREN Death is not an easy thing for adults to handle, and even harder to have children understand. Explaining it in a way a child can understand can be difficult. I felt this book did a nice job of explaining, and helping the child understand it wasn't their fault, and to remind them of the wonderful memories we hold dear in our heart, and can see in pictures. The story is about a young boy, Mick, who loved his grandfather and they had so much fun together. The grandfather dies suddenly, and the story is how the family, especially the young boy, Mick must accept and cope with his loss. Mick is concerned that maybe he did something that hurt his grandfather and was the cause of his death. "Grandpa left us, and he won't be back, because he died all of a sudden. He is no longer alive like us, his heart stopped beating, and he is no longer breathing like us. He won't touch us with his hands anymore...But in our heart we will remember all the fun games we played with him and the trips we took together. And when we miss him, we can look at the photos and remember, and kiss his picture."

A wonderful childrens book! This would be an excellent way to help a child deal with the loss of a family member/friend. It´s written in a way that is very easy for the child to understand and it has beautiful illustrations to help even more. My son loved this book and the length is just perfect - long enough to have a good story, but not too long.

The kids were not kept interested in the story This book is about a little boy who loses his grandfather all of a sudden. This is a story that is very similar to how we lost my grandfather so that was interesting. I feel like this is not written to keep a child interested though. I read this with my kids and by mid story they were off playing as I read. The book is pretty short and might help with some kids but I didn't feel like it was helpful to younger kids, mine are 8,4, and 2. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest unbiased review. I thought the story was nice but not a good one to help young kids deal with death.
