All of the stories in this collection are worth reading. This book was put together as an intro to each of the authors with all proceeds going to a charity. It's available at Amazon for 99 cents. One Thousand Yards - Mark Dawson - 4 stars - A U.S. sniper enters North Korea to kill some of the leaders of their computer crime group. This is one of those stories that has everything break in the "good guy's" favor while his supporters all seem to die. A nice read, though. Low Lifes - Simon Wood - 5 st All of the stories in this collection are worth reading. This book was put together as an intro to each of the authors with all proceeds going to a charity. This is one of those stories that has everything break in the "good guy's" favor while his supporters all seem to die. A nice read, though. Low Lifes - Simon Wood - 5 stars - A San Francisco policeman with a lot of personal problems gets framed for murdering a friend and has to track down the actual killer. If you live in the San Fran area, you might like reading it just for all of the location references. Lightning Rider - Rick Mofina - 3 stars - A very brief story of the robbery of an armored car by the driver. Includes a Native American bent. Chasing Ivan - Tim Tigner - 4 stars - A CIA agent blocks an attempt by a Russian criminal to influence the London mayoral election and finds out that the plot goes much deeper. I'm getting tired of "the leaders of the department are the bad guys" stories, but this one has a nice twist at the end. The Guardian - Matthew Iden - 5 stars - A well written story of a retired policeman saving a young boy from a child molester. The dog that the neighbors don't control as well as they should barks in the distance, the neighbor knows that it shouldn't be where it is so he follows, reads the clues, follows and tries to be prepared for what he will find. A nice plot. The Unexpected Hero - Michael Grumley - 5 stars - A young man suffers a head injury which leads to psychic powers, which he then uses to help track down abducted children. Not very good science, but a nice story. Origins - Steve Konkoly - 3 stars - During the civil wars in the fracturing Yugoslavia, a man works his way into the security detail of one of the military leaders, with an unexpected intention. Short, to the point, an opening for future stories. Bound In Blood - Abraham Falls - 3 stars - Competing Mexican drug cartels try to force an outside assassin to kill opposing leaders. Lots of torture and blood. Sam Peckinpah would love to make a movie of it. A Killing Truth - D. V. Berkom - 4 stars - Government assassins getting double-crossed by corrupt leaders. You may not like the ending, but it's hard to disagree with it. Chosen - C. G. Cooper - 3 stars - An all-star high school football player chooses an unexpected career path. Short, not really much to the story. Again, just a lead-in to future stories. Noble Intentions - L. T. Ryan - 3 stars - A criminal gang member shows a human side. The responses of the characters aren't very real. The Way of the Wolf - David Archer - 4 stars - A young boy sees his parents die and loses the ability to feel emotion. And again, a lead-in to future stories, but it's pretty well done and worth reading. Thaddeus Murfee - John Ellsworth - 3 stars - A new law school graduate ends up in the middle of government corruption. I'm not a lawyer, but the courtroom scenes just don't seem at all realistic. It's a fun ride, though.

Must read for everybody. When I received an email from one of my favorite author, had to buy this book. All the money made from this book goes to IJM, International Justice Mission. This organization is fighting human trafficking around the world. Very good way to discover new authors, most of them was already on my top ten list. You'll discover many jewels too. My four star rating is really an average of how I feel about each of these 13 stories. Some are truly excellent 5-star stories while some I would feel generous granting 3 stars. What you will get is a sampling of the writing style of these 13 up and coming authors. Most of the stories are origin tales that show how the various lead characters in each author's series began their sagas. And each writer provides a link to his website where you can find out what else is available. I can't imagine an My four star rating is really an average of how I feel about each of these 13 stories. And, like me, you'll probably add a few new writers to the list of those you follow regularly.

Excellent I thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories. I highly recommend it to everyone. And I'd like to thank the authors for doing this and donating the proceeds to such a worthy cause. I also found some new authors that I'm planning to watch for more of their work. And found a few stories by ones I already follow. Excellent I thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories. Interestingly, perhaps - although there is an Amazon ASIN neither Amazon.com or Amazon UK have it listed... Thirteen thriller novellas, only one of which I've read before, though I'm familiar with a few authors and characters Mark Dawson One Thousand Yards: This is the one I've read already - a John Milton novella with a timely setting and subject matter (North Korea) and a pleasantly different (not obvious) assignment; enjoyable as a reread Simon Wood Low Lifes: Failing detective in SFPD becomes Interestingly, perhaps - although there is an Amazon ASIN neither Amazon.com or Amazon UK have it listed... He is largely convinced of his innocence but there is the nagging doubt that perhaps... Rick Mofina Lightning Rider: What starts out as a normal day delivering cash to casinos in Las Vegas becomes something else Tim Tigner Chasing Ivan: A Mission Impossible type assassination caper (the comparison is made by the author so I can't claim originality) Matthew Iden The Guardian: Retired policeman finds his evening hijacked by a missing dog and child Michael Grumley The Unexpected Hero: Following an accident a teenager finds he has certain abilities - but they come at a cost. Steve Conkoly Origins: Covert ops man inserts himself into a brutal regime Abraham Falls Bound in Blood: A covert assassin (is there any other sort?) nicknamed The Ghost (the second such in this collection but here it's an American rather than a Russian) is coerced into taking one more job when his prvipusly unknown son is threatened D.V. Berkom A Killing Truth: Prequel to the series C.G. Cooper Chosen: High school footballer suffers a personal blow that sends his career onto a new path L.T.Ryan Noble Intentions: Episode One of Five - and I'd have been more than a little irritated had I not already bought the entire Season... Ends on a pause rather than a conclusion David Archer The Way of the Wolf: After witnessing his father shoot his mother and then commit suicide Noah Foster gradually comes to realise that he lacks emotions though he can simulate the correct response in most situations - that he is a 'wolf in man's clothing'. He is bidden to write an account of his early life as part of a vetting process John Ellsworth Thaddeus Murfee: Espionage and corruption (shock! horror!) in Washington DC. A newly qualified lawyer is recruited and immediately instructed to spy on his boss. A good collection to introduce authors and some characters who have series devoted to them. I'll be following up on at least two more in addition to the three I already know.

Thirteen stories in one book, some good, some not so good, but none of them bad or downright boring. Although I would not call them "thriller" - for me, a thriller is a book full of suspense, something I cannot put down, something that makes me bite my fingernails again, holding my breath, and usually set in the adventure or crime genre (for example, can they find the kidnap victim before they choke or whatever). Except for one or two of these stories, I did not really like any of the protagonist Thirteen stories in one book, some good, some not so good, but none of them bad or downright boring. Except for one or two of these stories, I did not really like any of the protagonists - most of them were assassins, cold blooded killers, or other criminal elements, some apparently with ninja super poweres, immune to any type of pain (yeah right, if it is too unbelievable, I will switch off, sorry). There were two stories I actually loved, the one from Michael Grumley, and the one from John Ellsworth, the others were average, but still entertaining. Some were only about 14 minutes long, others over one or two hours. All in all, hours and hours of entertaining stories, but nothing that cannot be interrupted.

Captivating! Loved all 13 novels. I'm usually not a fan of short stories but these were perfect length to not feel "jipped" of a fully developed plot line but short enough to keep me entertained. These thirteen stories have a wide range of claims to being 'thrillers'. At least two of them seemed to be off topic. A couple of these authors incorrectly assumed a familiarity with their character or series - the story here doesn't quite stand on its own. Definitely plan to skip or skim several of these stories. The thirteen novellas were not short, and were authors mostly new to me ... but wow, what an introduction. Collectively I enjoyed this tremendously. I joined half a dozen fan clubs, which gave me free first books in the series, and added about 50 to my want-to-read list. I'll be spending a good part of the new year with a bunch of new friends. Thank you for this set I really enjoyed most the stories in this collection, I will continue reading many of these authors works. I could not get into "Origins" and I didn't like "Lightning Rider" I felt it left me hanging. My favorites are: Mark Dawson, C.G. Cooper, L.T. Ryan, David Archer. I will keep an eye out for books of the other talented authors as well.
