Won in a Goodreads giveaway. At first, I wasn’t sure about this book. Desiree was a real free spirit living in the Washington mountains. Then she meets Ruby and a story emerged of their relationship, the family unit living in changing times, her goal for an education and performing along with her finding some alone time to contemplate life. I enjoyed the format which had very short chapters. The story emerged more along the lines of reading Desiree’s personal diary. Sometimes she was like a hipp Won in a Goodreads giveaway. Sometimes she was like a hippie with her communal love, music, peace and freedom; after she became a mother she was more concerned about a future and providing not only love but money and stability to family. She basically grew up and took responsibility, but found a way to have it all.
