When I started this I didn't realise it was actually book 2 so that's my fault. Now I think this is another case of it's me not the book because this has some fabulous reviews but I found it boring. Obviously I expected a lot of sex and I don't mind this as long as there's balance, enough story to hold the sex together and here the balance was off, well for me anyway. I'd say this is about 80% sex or it certainly felt like it and while there's a little story there's not much. But this got dragged out and dragged until I was actually telling my kindle to just get on with it. I lost interest early on and started skimming through the sex to get to the story but this meant I ended up skimming most of the book. (hide spoiler)]

We have no right to ask you to stay, but we do.” Plot twist in this installment: There is more than one witch character. Full warning: I'm writing this after having a couple glasses of wine ;) I'm not wanting to take these reviews too seriously. My #Returnthewitch reviews will focus mainly on the witches in this series and how they connect to the plot/MMCs. I'm not going to rehash the context of #Returnthewitch each time. If you're interested in the context of #Returnthewitch, check out the spoiler tag at the end of my review for book 1 to this series...And I am determined to read all the books in this series. ***Spoilers regarding the witch and how she connects to the plot and MMCs*** So, what we have here is a world where there are normal werewolves, but also berserker werewolves. The difference is berserker werewolves are born 'of a witch' and contain dark magic. This dark magic allows them to shift into this ferocious man/beast monster form and they're incredibly deadly. The downside to this dark magic is that the beast can take over and these berserker wolves can go completely mad. When this madness takes over, a killing rampage will ensue that ends in theirs and everyone's death. Yseult seems to be the main witch character, and my guess is that she is the wanted witch. She told both MMCs that if they found a woman who wore the 'mark of the wolf' she would be able to calm the beast. A question I have is does the other author in question want just one witch character returned? If so is that Yseult? Or all the witches in the series? I'm legitimately curious. So anyway, Daegan and Samuel think Brenna is the woman who soothes their beast, and that all is good and well when this book starts. Yseult appears in this book again and takes on the archetype of the trickster. She seemingly gives them advice, but leaves them more confused and at risk of real danger. Both Daegan and Samuel learn if they don't bond to the one who is truly intended as their mate, they will both go mad and on killing rampages. Here is where I agree with the top two star review. It was clear they just needed to mate with Brenna, and this was an obvious plot device used to drive conflict/angst/tension in the story. There is alotta sex in this book, and I actually found the sex hot, which is the main reason I'm upping this from 3 stars to 4. If you're not into the sex, it may be more difficult to get through this book. Also, the writing style was an improvement. There was good flow; I was never taken out of the story. I appreciated this book was entirely from Daegan's POV. This is refreshing considering the prevalence of dual POVs. I've already started book 3 and I'm very much into Maddox's story, which is a pleasant surprise. I was more than willing to push through this series, just paying attention to the witch character, and not rating these books if they weren't for me. So, it's been nice to actually get some reading enjoyment out of them. The big plot twist **spoiler alert**: (view spoiler)[Brenna is a witch. We find out she's less powerful than Yseult, and a hedgewitch, or spaewife. With earthy magic. We also find out Daegan's mother was a witch, and was killed by his pack (her throat was ripped out). It's implied that Brenna's sisters may be hedgewitches too. My guess is that the rest of the series will be Brenna's sisters being paired with other berserker wolves, since they have the ability to 'soothe the wolf' and prevent them from going mad. (hide spoiler)] So yeah, I was pleasantly surprised with this installment. If you're into MfM and shifters, this is worth checking out and an improvement from book 1. “Brenna has magic.” “Witch?” “She’s not a witch. Not quite. Hers is a more subtle, earthy magic.” “She soothes the beast.” “But she has not fully tamed it,” Samuel said. Yseult cleared her throat. “Power grows with sacrifice. There is always a price.” “What’s Brenna’s price? She already lost her voice, almost her life.” “The same price we all pay,” Yseult said. “Pain.” ... #Returnthewitch, Part III Coming Soon

Love and Punishment Another great installment to the series. There's intrigue, shifting, fighting, rule breaking, punishments, love, tenderness, and spying to name just some of the things in here. But I have issues with so many other things. There are consent issues in this series. Yes, the MC finds everything a turn on. HOWEVER, just because something is a turn on does not give other people the right to do whatever they want! She is constantly being "punished" for stupid reasons, and it doesn't matter that she always ends up liking it afterwards. The fact is, the consent is not there. Especially when (view spoiler)[they decide to carve a buttplug for her. She clearly does not consent to that, and yet they punish her for not consenting. By the way, the main character is mute. Her voice was destroyed in a wolf attack that almost killed her as a child. So she cannot even speak up to defend herself. That should make the men try HARDER to make sure she is okay with everything. They don't care and just want what they want because she "calms the beast." And yet, and this is another huge issue for me, they continue to talk about how she is a human and can't actually be "the one." They talk about how they will have to keep looking for "the one" and never give up. That bothers me. Supposedly they love this human yet they want to keep her while looking for another? That's like cheating, IMO, and I don't like that addition to the plot. I already disliked how they were treating a mute girl who couldn't stand up for herself because she had not voice. Now I really dislike them. And why do I think they mistreat her? They BOUGHT her. They kept her trapped in a cave knowing she was terrified of them. They used her terror to keep her biddable while they mated with her. They kept her naked so she couldn't leave the cave. They punished her, and sometimes for stupid reasons. And they insist that she needs to learn to follow pack rules even though she isn't a pack member, like not making eye contact because that is a way of fighting for dominance. Since she is a human with a tenth of their strength and none of their magic, she should be exempt from the dominance issues! It is completely stupid that she has to submit to every single member of the pack just because they can't handle eye contact with someone who is obviously not a threat. Her two mates try to tell her that she can't make eye contact because she would be killed in a dominance fight, which she would. But she is not a wolf - she is a human. She shouldn't have to fight at all! Instead, other pack members who get offended should be put in their place. They should be saying, "Why do you need to fight a little puny human to feel like a strong pack member? Are you that weak and insecure?" Instead, all of the blame falls on her and she is constantly punished for making eye contact. (Also, she was raised human, so it isn't second nature for her like it is for them. That is another reason why she should be exempt.) (hide spoiler)] I just got tired of the way the main character was treated, so I'm giving this series a break for now. Consent matters to me when I am reading a book, and the way it was treated as a turn on in this book just made me feel gross while I was reading it.

I thought it was a good story, although I think it could have been better. They did the same things over and over. I thought it could have been more detailed. Like why she could calm the beast, why was only two of the pack able to turn from beast? Like I said I enjoyed the book, I just like to come away from a book with the least amount of questions possible. I actually have more questions than two, I was just showing what I meant.

It was sweet and steamy, adding layers to their story and asking the right questions. Pros: - Unique POV writing for the entire book - Character growth - Red hot Cons: - Characters can be a bit oblivious. - Have to signup for newsletter to read the ultimate conclusion to their saga. - Short

Brenna’s experiences as a human do not prepare her for just how different pack life is, but she has to learn. Looking someone in the eye and standing up for yourself is natural for humans and usually helpful, but things like that can create dangerous situations among wolves. Human habits are hard to break, but her mates find some creative ways to help her learn. I’m really happy the author is keeping this world alive and has followed up with many more books about it.

This is especially critical for the alphas of the pack, since they help keep the pack under control from the strongest to the weakest. They are also responsible for taking care of anyone that loses control of their beast, since the only thing that can stop a berserker is another berserker. Brenna fought becoming their mate as she needed to escape and protect her sisters from her stepfather, but she was having trouble trusting, no matter how much she desires them. It may be easier if they could communicate, but it becomes easier after they hired someone to teach all of them some sign language. If she would just fully accept them as her mates it would be even easier to communicate through their mating bond. Samuel and Daegan took care of her stepfather, and agreed that if she became their mate, her family would be provided for with fresh meat and other provisions monthly. Unfortunately since the wolf attacked her when she was younger, she has been afraid of them, dogs, or anything else resembling canines. While she needs them physically, she is still finding it hard to trust. They have discovered that she does soothe their inner beast, but if they can't find a way to bond fully, will it be enough to save Samuel and Daegan? I am going to stop there so I don't accidentally provide any spoilers or twists.

Brenna and her lovers are taking care of each other. They love making love to her together treating her so good. Even though Brenna knew that her lovers were wolves in a human body. They were really worried that if Brenna saw the real beast inside that she would run. Brenna breaks a rule to not go outside the cave and when she did not know the rules of the pack. She was being taught what the rules were with the pack. Brenna didn't know that she could have been attacked until one of the pack prot Brenna and her lovers are taking care of each other. She was being taught what the rules were with the pack. Brenna didn't know that she could have been attacked until one of the pack protected her. They were really worried about her especially if she were to leave them. In the middle of sex the witch that told them of Brenna shows up. She tells Daegan that wolves and humans could not mate and they couldn't be together for the long haul. The beast in the Beserkers was a magical influence and they both didn't know if Brenna would survive the beast. A lone wolf was found on their land and they have him in the pit Samuel comes to find out he is another beserker. He tell Samuel that hey have a witch who cast the stones and it was told that he would find the women here. One of the warrior Siebold caught Brenna off guard while she was with Daegan and she looked him in the eye. Siebold wanted her punished in front of the pack. Samuel brought Brenna outside to where the pack had been waiting. Siebold made comments about Breena's sister and Brenna let loose. Brenna picks up a piece of wood and throws it and also the hot water at Siebold. He immediately goes into wolf form and they get a grip on him? Daegan will be punishing her in front of the rest of the pack so they can see that justice has been served. They had been keeping them as theirs and do with her what they pleased with her because she is their mate. There were many who wanted our mate but that was never going to happen. Our beast burst forth and she stayed with us. We still worried to see if she stays or goes back to her sisters. .

Storyline was ok, execution needed a bit of help. There are some editing errors that should be cleaned up. There were a few things about this book that I personally disliked. I also dislike when reviewers give lower ratings because a book doesn’t adhere to current sensibilities (e.g., the issue of consent. I’m pretty sure the vikings of old didn’t give a shit about consent, so in that regard they would just take what they wanted from a female, regardless of what she wanted.) So, here’s my two cents . . . (view spoiler)[ I really did like the first book. They indicated to her that they wouldn’t harm her and she would be cherished. However, the reality is that she was little more than a sex slave in this book. Sure it’s all under the umbrella of “keeping her safe.” *rolls eyes* They hold her to the same standards as the rest of the wolves in the pack and she’s expected to never look another member in the eye because that’s a challenge. Other than play spanking, the author seems to excuse their raping of her because she enjoys it and orgasms. I feel like if it were just presented as savage warriors pillaging and plundering their spoils of war I probably wouldn’t have felt so offended. But trying to portray this as love and looking our for their mate, that’s a hard fucking no for me. (hide spoiler)] There were several moments in the book where I was thinking “Sorry, but I would have told them to fuck themselves and run away.”

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the continuation of Brenna, Daegan and Samuel of berserkers claiming their mate. At one point she is spanked naked publicly because she tried to defend one of her mates. For some reason Brenna goes from being somewhat subservient to suddenly being something of a hot head and challenges several of the male wolves in the pack. Which then means that Daegan and Samuel must spank her into submission, which she enjoys which leads to more sex, pretty much predictable through out the story. Daegan and Samuel are trying to keep her presence secret from other pack members, they are wolves her scent will be picked up by others didn’t quiet understand this part. This story at least we get a little more things happening outside the sex time and we are introduced to some other werewolf/berserkers and learn a bit more about the witch the one that lead them to Brenna. So when you remove the sex you have maybe about a chapter or two about something else. There is no real character connection or depth to any of them. If you are looking for a way to pass sometime that might be mildly arousing then you have found it.

They need a mate, and when they learn of Brenna, it becomes a war of clans. “A true mate means three things: they can bond with us. Survive a mating bite. And can conceive.” Brenna has a strength that can sooth the savage beast that lives inside of Samuel and Daegan. Slowly she is learning to trust and submit to her mates, but the process comes with conflicts along the way. “So fragile. So delicate…and yet you are stronger than us all. Your frailty calls to our beast turns our brutal beast into a protector.” The tale becomes a battle of good versus evil, and which beast that lives inside them will be the victory and what will be the cost? Does Brenna have magic around her, like Samuel’s mother did? The witch, seems to think so, but is she to be trusted? The story is explicit is sex scenes, including multiple scenes of ménage à trois between Brenna, Samuel, and Daegan. There are also scenes of violence. I look forward to book three, and the final installment in this series, Bred to the Berserkers.

Mated To The Berserkers “Tonight she smelled like moonlight on the snow, and secrets kept deep in the earth…things no man had words for, things that only a wolf would”. There is such romance to this author’s writing. I could never skim the books worried about what I would miss. This book is a sensory magnet. “Can she truly love us, if she doesn’t know what we are? The beast does not love. It will try to destroy her. I held my breath until Samuel answered, Pray that it does not succeed.” See what I mean? Samuel and Daegan kept Brenna safe in their lair, but the time was coming to a acquaint her with their pack. Much of this book is told from Daegan’s POV, beta to his alpha brother Samuel. It was Daegan a who killed Brenna’s step father, I feel that he’s the fierce protector while Samuel is her emotional protector. Brenna may be mute but the reader knows who she is as a character. Although Samuel is the Alpha and Daegan the Beta, to me it appears differently. Daegan sought out Yseult, Daegan found Brenna and it seems Daegan is gifted with the sight. Being the son of a wolf and a witch gives him more powerful traits. I totally became engrossed in this story.

I listened to the audio book but there is no choice for that. I have not read the first book in the series but I didn't feel like I couldn't follow this one. It is basically what you would like a menage book would be. Two Berserkers - the pack Alpha and Beta have taken one human woman as their mate. This is supposed to quiet their Berserker side and keep them from going crazy and killing everything in sight. There is a witch that makes cryptic remarks about whether or not the woman is their true mate. I guess you will have to find out for yourself. I got tired of hearing, "Our Beloved". Maybe it is better when you are reading it and can just roll your eyes and skip over some of them. I did a lot of eye rolling. The accent of the narrator is a little difficult to understand at times and there were several repeat sentences where the editing apparently didn't go well. I was gifted a copy of this audio version by the author. My review is voluntary.

In this second book of this series which a knew would only get better, the suspense starts to heat up. Brenna is surely calming the Berserker Beasts in the Viking Warrior Samuel and Highland Wolf Daegan. She has accepted her lot and is falling in love with the strong passionate alphas, but she has to learn the pack politics and it is not easy for her. She has to undergo several punishments for her insolence, but Daegan realizes that they may not be as punishing as he and the Alpha thought.
